In a tense situation, e.g. Gaza or Ukraine, a slight change in e.g. the position of a hand can change the impression created significantly - maybe from looking like surrendering to looking as if reaching for a gun.
That's why news organisations have such strict rules.
It is s bit bizarre to hold a family snap to the same standard.
