Photoshoot for the Sussex Children?

1000 replies

MrsFinkelstein · 21/03/2024 16:03

I actually hope this isn't true. It's one thing I've always admired of the Sussexes, that they have (generally) protected their children's privacy very effectively.

I hope its not related to the new commercial venture.

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Meghan Markle has photoshoot of Archie and Lilibet

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: The photo-shoot, at Prince Harry and Meghan's mansion in Montecito, coincided with the launch of Meghan's lifestyle and cookery brand, American Riviera Orchard.

I think it has only strayed due to timings of announcing you are having some sort of private photo shoot (still puzzled as to why folk needed to know) around the same time as they are launching a new on-line store.

You can maybe understand how people may erroneously link the two.

I don’t think anyone would like to see the children being part of any campaign, given that they take such care to shield them.

That would seem a bit grubby.

Hi all,
Just popping on to remind posters that making personal digs and sniping at perceived factions are against our guidelines. We are receiving many complaints from MNers that this behaviour is spoiling Royal Family threads and would like to ask everyone to reflect on this and to resist the temptation to participate when they see it. Please report in future.

As the OP I have no issues with the direction the thread has taken. I've found it all very interesting.

As @ArcaneWireless stated - the deliberate leaking of a photoshoot alongside the launch of a new lifestyle commercial venture does raise questions. Especially when absolutely nothing else is happening regards the commercial venture.

I find it incomprehensible that they haven't been soft launching future products. Even a hint. Its just lost all momentum. Now people are talking about a makeup brand. Too much "possible products" and not anything of substance.

Weirdest PR for commercial product launch I've ever seen.

I agree. Very muddled launch, which makes it very obvious that it was rushed out for reasons which have been discussed elsewhere.

The only reason we know it's going to be selling stuff of some shape or form is because of the copyright filings which are publicly accessible. The website and Instagram pages contain no information at all. That might work to drum up initial interest, but soon you need to actually show your hand. The whole lifestyle market is very crowded, so she'll need clever marketing and a clear brand identity if she's going to make a success of this. Thus far, that doesn't seem to be happening.

ArcaneWireless · 27/03/2024 12:58

It is baffling - the launch - considering that it also coincided with the Diana awards.

I may be mistaken but I cannot recall a similar high profile launch/announcement of a launch that has literally launched nowt.

I see there may also be a make up line in the offing too.

I do think that may be a waddle in the wrong direction. Celebrity make up ranges can be amazing but I’m not sure most of them have a great deal of longevity. A collaboration may be better?

I honestly don’t know what the answer is or what would be the ideal thing to sell.

It all seems a bit slapdash and scattergun at the moment. Not the greatest of endorsements for an online venture. I have no doubt that there will have been a lot of interest in the site initially. They need to get shifting or else folk will drift away in their droves.

Bit of a pickle really.

Bit of a pickle really

Maybe a range of pickles to go with the jam?!

It looks as if it been a bit rushed and not really thought throw, it perhaps they hoped to generate some mystery and therefore interest

It's all a bit uncomfortable now though in relation t timing, what with Harry being mentioned regarding P Diddy and Catherine's diagnosis, it's maybe a time for quiet reflection than launching products

ArcaneWireless · 27/03/2024 13:05

Will give it a look…

It's been a great boost for Flamingo Estate. I'm sure their IG hits have increased enormously 😆

They come across as hard workers. I love the green sofa.

I get the feeling that both Harry and Meghan are impatient and can't build something up from the bottom and learn the ropes as they go, but need to launch straight to the top without any foundations. Understandable to an extent with Harry who has never had to put the hard yards in, just be the figurehead, and has taken with him established causes like Invictus where the ground work was laid under the experienced hands of RF advisors. His mindset is probably that things just miraculously land in his lap as perfect from the off.

A bit different with Meghan who has built up a career and blog from grass roots before. But perhaps she thinks it's beneath her to do that with her status today, and maybe age is a factor - she wants to capture her audience while she is still perceived to be young/beautiful/inspirational and part of the conversation of the young monied classes she is courting. So perhaps she's got frustrated and launched too early in a bid to make something happen (like a big following and lots of online buzz). Maybe she was hoping that launching would attract collaborators with products they might want to sell through her?

I can't remember where I saw this, but there was some suggestion of a collaboration in Asia to sell her products in a country in that region. IT didn't specify which. But I can imagine goods actually made and sold in China relatively cheaply, but branded in an upmarket and aspirational "California lifestyle" way and marketed to the rich elites in that region might be quite the money spinner.

It might be, but surely there would be more appropriate people to be the face of such a brand?

Asian countries all have their own celebrities. Of course they may be familiar with the big Hollywood names, but is a former cable TV actress married to an exiled royal really going to have mass market appeal in, say, China? I expect many people there don't have a clue who she is.

Salemforcuddles · 27/03/2024 13:20

I am sure that schlepping cheap products in from abroad does would not sit well with their ethos, think of the carbon footprint!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 27/03/2024 13:21

I've no idea @IcedPurple . It could be part and parcel of the delusion of grandeur they seem to live under. Or maybe the Chinese state up to no good? (Just kidding!)

All I know is that at the moment there is no organic growth. This isn't the case of a hobbyist who makes their own jam from their own orchard deciding to make a business out of that and built it up from scratch over a realistic period of time (10-15 years). Starting small and growing something bigger. Nope, not good enough for a duchess. This is someone who wants to go in straight at the top, be on par with or bigger than the best from the off, offering a huge range of products they have no experience in mass making or mass marketing. So they need collaborators with their own products to sell through ARO and/or they need established factories/manufacturers to mass produce something.

Seems to be a case of no jam today or tomorrow🤔😆
