And guess what - it wasn’t a divorce, an affair, domestic violence, a secret pregnancy, laziness, fake photos or lookalike conspiracies - any of the sensational and ridiculous things that were being by posters.

It was what we were told - abdominal surgery, recovery, and now we know, a setback. But that was never going to be good enough for some people….

I never speculated on divorce, dv pregnancy, aliens etc - the photos were faked though that was a fact - hence the kill notice. That was what alerted some people to the fact that something was not right, despite all the self-righteous ranting that everything was fine and she would turn out up at Easter as if nothing and happened.

Nope. You're not pushing the blame for bad behaviour onto those who called the behaviour out.

All day bloody long @MrsFinkelstein

You can bet there will be all manner of doubling down though.

Not sure the photo montage is necessary – she's not dead!

jeffgoldblum · 22/03/2024 18:35

Well I hope everyone is happy now !
And enjoyed themselves!
😡

AliceOlive · 22/03/2024 18:36

I am with you, but it’s better than talking to… well, you get it.

Right?

I don’t feel like throwing my words down a dark black hole of stupidity.

I think you’ll find the majority of people were saying ‘She’s recovering from surgery, she should be left in peace’. Few people were saying ‘there’s nothing wrong’ - she’d had surgery involving a 2 week stay in hospital and an estimated 3 month recovery period. It was pretty obvious something wasn’t right. People were just pointing out the crazy speculation about her health, her marriage and her mental state, with the many implications she was lying or having plastic surgery, was unsavoury.

Banging on as though you’re the only one who saw the light and the rest of us are naive fools for respecting her privacy isn’t making you look clever, it’s making you look really unpleasant and is showing you have zero empathy.

I never disagreed with the “she’s had surgery she should be let in peace”. My comments related to the appalling media management that meant she wasn’t. She should have been much better protected by her comms team.

It’s ridiculous to to tell me I have no empathy simply because I called it right. Despite not being a royalist I have the greatest sympathy for her and her family. It’s a terrible thing for anyone with young children.

diddl · 22/03/2024 18:40

Oh bloody hell-do people really have to be congratulating themselves on what they "knew"?

You’re displaying a lack of empathy by posting endless screeds to prove that you, unlike other foolish trusting idiots, knew ‘there was something wrong!!!’ Anyone with a normal emotional range would be thinking ‘God, was I twat with my endless nitpicking and criticism of the Palace PR team who were obviously doing their best while trying not to give anything away that she didn’t want to give away? Did I feed into the media frenzy that has meant she felt obliged to publish a touched up photo of herself then a video revealing the private medical details she obviously didn’t want to reveal?’ Maybe consider whether some self reflection instead of self justification is needed.

I’ve asked a couple of times what the KP team could have done better and the answer always seems to have been ‘Share more medical details, have her show herself in bed reading cards, have her do a video’ when it’s plain she didn’t want to, and now we all know why. How would you have done a better job, under the circumstances?

Surely with hindsight you can see the comms team did nothing wrong? They put out a statement saying she had surgery and was due back at work after Easter. After that she got her diagnosis and, as she said in her statement, her priority was helping her children and family wrap their heads around it. The diagnosis wasn't the comms teams news to share - it was hers, and she clearly didn't want the wider public to know, as is her right. Now, her hand forced, she's updated that initial statement. No fucking conspiracy whatsoever.

Maybe the “appalling media management” was down to the fact that it was a rapidly changing situation and people didn’t know what to do or how to “manage it” as you put it. Media people arehuman too and this is not a situation that you can approach by managing it. It has been revealed that this was why William had missed the memorial service. Obviously they had received the shocking news and didn’t know how to “manage it”. Not everything in life can be run to a slick PR formula

It was very very obvious to some people that things were not as they seemed. And that there must be a reason behind the strange PR choices.

In this case, the conspiracy theorists were not actually wrong.

It was accepted by anyone with a heart, and in full possession of their sanity, that she was unwell (in need of major surgery; the palace released a succinct statement saying all of this) and in need of privacy. The PR choices were not remotely strange, the decent among us were perfectly satisfied with what the palace said, and understood that intricate details were her own business and no one else's.

I can't (thankfully) get on a level with the type of mindset that, upon hearing of a young Mum's cancer diagnosis, responds by logging onto SM to congratulate the gossips; you couldn't redden some people's necks with a blow torch!

'In this case', ie a young Mum battling cancer, the conspiracy theorists were true to type (every last one) - a bunch of nasty, sad, ambulance chasing fuckwits.

True they must be reeling

I’m just here for the nauseatingly insincere outpourings of concern from hypocritical guilt-ridden posters who were slagging Kate off yesterday. 🍿

You just can't stop congratulating yourself and how you "called it right" can you? You really need to read your posts back and see just how badly you are coming over.

I have sympathy with those who have felt nothing but sympathy throughout and have been able not to question and wonder. I have sympathy with those who have questioned and wondered too.

I hope it's possible to come together and admire Kate for the strength it took to say what she had to say in a clear unwavering voice and to wish her well.

This would be nice but after watching conversations here for week, I don't think it's possible. The main intention seems to be just to argue and attack each other.

diddl · 22/03/2024 18:44

I don't think that it was badly managed.

It's not Easter yet & any update could have been given then imo.

Maybe the “appalling media management” was down to the fact that it was a rapidly changing situation and people didn’t know what to do or how to “manage it” as you put it.

And the fact that the moment they widened the circle who was involved they opened the risk of a leak, and her children finding out while they were still at school for the school term. They said they waited til now so the children will be insulated from the furore while the Easter holidays last. So they kept it very tight, and clearly didn’t seek any wider counsel.

With hindsight, it is perfectly sensible and reasonable. It’s a shame people weren’t prepared to give them the space to negotiate this as they wished.

Not attack people, no.

Try to muffle the noise of nasty gossiping fools and twats? Aye.
