Harry and Meghan are so petty and bitter

BigFluffyHoodie · 15/03/2024 10:30

They knew that announcing Meghan's new venture would be big news. So they dropped it 45 minutes before William was due to speak yesterday evening. At an awards ceremony dedicated to harry and William's mother's memory.

But that wasn't good enough. Oh no. They then announced the winner of their own awards. While the Diana awards were still going on and Prince William was handing out prizes.

Is there no level this petty, bitter couple won't sink to?!

@AliceOlive I do go to the Strand. However, there is a delay from when a book is released in the UK and before it is released in the US market. So if I really want a book, I would order it from Book Depository and now Blackwell. The book is discounted, the shipping is free, and it usually just takes a week to get to NYC. There are also certain topics that don't show up in the Strand.

V cool.

Now it’s dawned on me what you meant. I’m not brave enough to have any work done. I just use photoshop.

No! I didn't mean that, genuinely love the fact that you are a voice of reason (despite being from the US!).

I once spent a couple of months in Philadelphia for work. Was very lonely and depressed, and discovered MD20/20 in Ruby Grapefruit...

Would love these days to have a couple of months in a hotel and no washing up 😂

I had a long weekend in DC for Clinton's second inauguration, and felt like the only person in 100,000 who just stood there while everyone recited the Pledge of Allegience around me! Sort of like not doing the Nazi salute in the 1936 Olympics...

I was just making a silly joke!

That’s all fascinating and funny. We have loads of grapefruit options now. It must have been so strange being away for that long. And the pledge… so normal for us back then but can imagine it was 😳

OneHeartySnail · 24/03/2024 23:09

I think the Pledge is still a bit 😮!

I have a very good friend who grew up in the US (british parents) who tried to make a stand and not recite the pledge at high school - her teachers threatened her with the FBI and scared her into complying! Of course, with hindsight it wouldn't have gone anywhere near that. But it was such a huge deal for her and her teachers 😀

OneHeartySnail · 24/03/2024 23:12

She can still recite it as a party piece, decades later! Just as i can recite the Lords Prayer, a staple of my school days. Except when we started secondary the Head teacher specifically said we didn't have to take part, we could just stay silent when it was said if we wanted!

AliceOlive · 25/03/2024 02:00

We were always allowed to stay silent during the pledge if we wished. I’ve heard people say they had teachers tell them otherwise but I think that’s rare and just human ignorance.

Actually, I think we were told that people died so we could not pledge anything if we wished.

Pivoting back to the Royal Family, what do you think caused Harry to be so clueless about the US constitution? It’s a rather major thing, the first amendment and it’s a shock that he would marry an American and move here without grasping what it means.

garlicandsapphires · 25/03/2024 06:50

Either Harry and Meghan simply get it wrong quite a lot of the time (the website launch timing, calling the PoW Kate, the inaccuracies and mistruths) and these are mistakes it’s not their fault, OR…it’s deliberate.

For a long time I thought it was the former, but considering some of these things are things that even I would do better, and that it keeps happening, I’m beginning to think it may be deliberate.

spanieleyes · 25/03/2024 06:51

I think it was to even things out a bit, Meghan had no idea about royalty, he had no idea about the first amendment. In fact, not an idea between them!

I definitely think it’s deliberate.

Circling back to the book deal. Iirc it was never said that the remainder of the 4 book deal was autobiographies. I'm almost sure that a life style book and a mindfulness manual were mentioned, which would fit in nicely with the ARO project.

I can see why Harry isn't a fan of the First Amendment, he seems to believe that he should only receive positive press. I doubt he did much research into the US before moving there, everything he has done in recent years seems rushed.

Yes, that's my impression. Plus a good dollop of 'the rules don't apply to me, I'm too special ' attitude...

Out of interest, if someone ships from the US to the UK, do they have to factor in the VAT? I know that if I get books sent from the UK I don't pay a VAT. Does it make it really expensive to order in from the US?

Books aren’t subject to VAT, along with tampons, funerals and lottery tickets (among other items).

I don’t know about ordering in jam from the US, but probably – but you wouldn’t see the VAT, generally, it’s just included in the ticket price and only seen in small print and only relevant if you’re a VAT-registered business wanting to claim back your jam-related business expenses. It’s shipping and surprise customs charges that are prohibitive. It would make more sense to make and sell jam in the UK but branded ARO – although there’s the rub with the name: if you’re called Goop you can make and sell in the UK and brand it Goop; if you’re called American Riviera Orchard you really need to be producing your goods in the American riviera orchard.

But I’d assume Meghan is appointing ARO staff to deal with paperworky stuff like tax and customs and whether stuff originates in the orchard: she’s the blurry figurehead in Instagram stories, someone else figures out international pricing.

The thread is 10 days old and so is the quote you posted!

Wickedlywearynamechange · 25/03/2024 08:19

I’ve always loved that quote though. An oldie and a goody.

garlicandsapphires · 25/03/2024 08:32

I do feel bad for gossiping about them, really I do Blush
Well, a bit bad.
But I’ve found that having fallen down the rabbit hole it’s hard not to be intrigued by the drama of it all.
I am still open to the possibility that they are innocent, well meaning people who sometimes get it wrong.
It’s just fascinating to me that they get it wrong so much.

Yes, of all the quotes out there to love that one is right up there in the 'oldie and goody' category😂

jeffgoldblum · 25/03/2024 08:35

Possibly an oldy and a goady?

It all seems to be a bit of a mystery.

There are reports suggesting a follow up to 'Spare', a joint project focusing on 'service', a Meghan memoir and repeated mentions of a wellness book. I don't think 'Bench' was ever part of the deal.

However there are now further reports that 'Spare' didn't sell enough copies to cover the advance so I'm wondering if the deal's been quietly shelved.

MaturingCheeseball · 25/03/2024 09:06

One of my first thoughts (and I think I posted about it!) was the import duty and p&p. Even if I were fan of the year I can’t imagine spending $100 on a jar of jam all in (obvs no idea how much a jar of Orchard Riviera Bilberry is going to cost so it may be more like $500 for such an exclusive delicacy…).

MarmaladeMarkle · 25/03/2024 09:29

It's almost as if karma keeps biting these two on the ass isn't it. First Covid was blamed for Archewell being a flop, now the two cancer diagnoses have put paid to more bitching about the royals. I suppose they could continue down that track, but lets face it, it's going to make them look like an even bigger pair of c*nts if they do.

Dear oh dear, how are they going to make buck? Flogging imported crap from China with a hessian bow? Reap what you sow

Sorry, ‘saying’. I’ve often used that ‘saying.’ I’m tired and a bit foggy headed today.

IcedPurple · 25/03/2024 09:42

Was this '4 book deal' ever mentioned by the publisher?

Or is it one of those things that has been 'reported' but never actually confirmed?

jeffgoldblum · 25/03/2024 09:59

I don't think so @IcedPurple ?!
But at this point information has been so inflated and muddled, it's anyone's guess!
