Harry and Meghan are so petty and bitter

They knew that announcing Meghan's new venture would be big news. So they dropped it 45 minutes before William was due to speak yesterday evening. At an awards ceremony dedicated to harry and William's mother's memory.

But that wasn't good enough. Oh no. They then announced the winner of their own awards. While the Diana awards were still going on and Prince William was handing out prizes.

Is there no level this petty, bitter couple won't sink to?!

If you’re gonna give it you can expect to get it back. I haven’t witnessed bullying, challenging, yes.

I am not sure what I am 'giving'

I just post like everyone else on here.
That's it really

To be fair, I think a lot of the ridicule was because of the muff candle.

As long as M doesn’t come out with rottingnob tapers, I think she’ll swerve the worst of it.

MarmaladeMarkle · 18/03/2024 12:35

They are their own worst enemy and whilst they remain completely consumed with jealousy and spite they will continue to make bad decision after bad decision at their own financial cost.

Meghans' business was not ready to launch, that is clear. It is also clear that it was launched at a chosen moment in time to further antagonise William and, therein lies the rub.

Continuing to associate their business ventures with spiteful attacks leaves a bad taste in the mouth and it taints everything they do. It results in the likes of Vogue, a publication for the beautiful people publicly disassociating themselves from something that they might otherwise have been crowing about.

What reason could there be for the launch date:

Get publicity while Kate and going through the ringer.
or
Hurt the family while they are in a weak time
or
Get PR because of the Diana Awards
or
Planned launch and couldn’t move it (seems unlikely given that it’s been a nothing burger)

Thoughts?

MarmaladeMarkle · 18/03/2024 12:51

Well if true, it's definitively disrespectful to the memory of his mother. She's dead so she won't know, but it was again, to antagonise William.

This pair are all consumed by bitterness and jealousy and it's not an attractive look anymore.

AliceOlive · 18/03/2024 12:53

It feels intended to antagonize but so very odd on the heels of SXSW panel.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 18/03/2024 13:08

It could be to piss her own husband off. He's gone skiing and left her at home with two small children. Maybe she did it to irritate him by stamping all over his mother's charity thing. I'm always interested that whenever Harry does something like fly to the UK for a funeral or whatever there's suddenly a Meghan pap walk or similar. Like she cannot bear not to be part of the news cycle. The exception being when he was promoting his book, when presumably she wanted people to forget they even know each other (frostbitten penis etc).

That's a very good and insightful post!!!
I'd not thought about it that way before 🤔

I almost feel sorry for Meghan, as she clearly has a compulsion to behave like this (hijacking or clinging to the coat-tails of other events) and every time she does it, she shoots herself in the foot. It’s not ‘normal’ behaviour (by which I mean considered, or following professional advice). It’s a bizarre way to behave.

Yes. It smacks of a desperate need for attention. I find it very odd. I wonder how Harry feels about it.

Even if so that doesn't mean she can't make a success of it, but as said that'll be another wait and see

I'm just mindful that they have form for initiatives launched in a blaze of publicity and which then go pretty quiet, and am hoping this won't be another - after all it's got to be better than making money by trashing the family

Freakinfraser · 18/03/2024 13:56

I agree it was launched before it was ready, they have just launched a title. And obviously rushed to do so to capitalise on the negative publicity and controversy of doing it at William speaking at the Diana awards.

what utterly stuns me is not what they are doing, it’s same old. But that over half a million people are actually following it on insta. Looking at it, a lot of them seem to be small businesses. So I wonder if folks want to get listed on her website.

Unfortunately for Meghan, it’s an indication of how much they have damaged their brand in the last 4 years. Their SussexRoyal account is still up on instagram, though it’s been dormant since March 2020. It still has 9.2m followers. So half a million for their first new social media venture since represents a huge drop-off.

As someone working in media and publicity, that's a great number for launch! The Rock, for example recently launched a skincare brand globally including huge billboards in multiple major cities and heavy promotion to his Instagram followers (he has over 300 million of them) and the brand currently has just under 60k followers on Instagram.

A brand getting 500k follows in launch week, from a founder with an account with 9m (let alone a dormant account!) is a huge success when it comes to follower numbers, not a huge drop off at all. Far above average for a 'celebrity' launch of their own brand.

That's not to say it'll translate to sales and it seems very short sighted to launch without sales possible, but I just wanted to share that it's not at all indicative of a drop off when it comes to industry standards.

MaturingCheeseball · 18/03/2024 14:25

I read that a lot of the followers had no other presence (or whatever the term is) so likely to be bots.

I am sure there are many followers - but that does not translate into sales because a) it’s curiosity, like interest in Spare and b) there’s nothing at all to buy!

Avatartar · 18/03/2024 14:26

Wonder if they’ll invite guest sessions - Mary Berry or Pru Leith making bread or scones to go with the jam - would they accept or decline?

ThisGreyPoster · 18/03/2024 14:28

They are aiming at a US market. They would not have a clue who Mary Berry or Prue Leith are.
