The Duchy of Cornwall generate way over £100m, I guess they'll use that. And yes, they already pay tax on that.

But this wouldn’t stop them from doing Royal Engagements. And affairs and divorces are part of the royal fabric, they wouldn’t go to such extremes to bother.

I've said for a while I think something's up and now I'm more than a bit agog at how badly the PR has been handled. Not buying it's a lack of expertise when the expensively maintained Palace spin machine has run smoothly for years.

I think Charles may be more ill than they're currently letting on. I was quite surprised at the lack of comment on his recent video message where he looked pretty frail. Understandable given he may be undertaking some gruelling treatment but all eclipsed by the frenzy over a photo. I also think there's something as well as illness and recovery going on in the W house.

As if the royals would attempt to soft-launch a mistress to take over as royal wife when (a) Charles is ill and Wills might ascend the throne sooner rather than later, and the last thing they need is a new upstart face in the ranks – it took YEARS to win the public over to Camilla, it was a proper PR long game, and (b) he’s still married. Kate is hugely popular – God knows why, she doesn’t do anything, but perhaps that’s why. She’s quiet and non-controversial (until now, which is why it’s so interesting). They’d need to do a divorce, then careful PR management to establish her as a happy single parent with a vaguely royal role or royal-adjacent (it’s not like she can get a little admin job to fit around school runs, and while she has the wealth to never need to work, there would be an expectation), then soft launch Rose (who I suspect has little interest in joining the hell’s circus that is the royal family), then float the idea of a wedding, plus negotiate calls to pay back some of the millions spent on the big Kate-Wills extravaganza, or do a quiet registry office thing. It would be a decades-long project, not this clown parade.

Plus Kate is the star: if you’re one of the loons who queues at the barriers to look at royals, who are you there to see? People were always disappointed when they got Charles not Diana. Charles, Camilla and William is a pretty boring trio, made worse by Charles’s necessary absence and Camilla being over it and preferring holidays to the royal stuff (who can blame her): at this point they need Kate (I also think they need Meghan and Harry back) for the glamour, the fashion, the gossip, the photos, the stardust. Especially as otherwise Randy Andy elbows his way back in. And Sophie and Edward are so dull. Kate has the upper hand, I think.

That doctored photo is weird. Highly arrogant on the one hand - thinking the anomalies wouldn't be picked up on, and desperate on the other. No need for them to have provided a photo at all. If they'd wanted to dampen the furore after it was deleted by Reuters etc. they could have, as requested, provided the original. The fact that request was ignored speaks for itself.

I think the simplest explanation is the likeliest.

She needed urgent but not emergency surgery for something like Crohn's, or a scheduled minor op turned into something much more serious. A big op with a long recovery - even without a stoma, having some bowel removed is a big deal and takes ages to get over. For example, other surgeries are available.

They were all a bit blindsided by it and didn't have time to come up with a PR plan. Keeping her medical details private is extremely important to her (makes sense given she has only shared the bare minimum in the past), which is of course perfectly reasonable and very sensible.

To protect her privacy they've kept the details to a very limited close circle within the families and the KP machine, so most people working for them don't know what's up and they're running the PR on a skeleton team by choice.

This leads them to fuck up, a little bit with the "personal matter" at the memorial, and then royally () with the photo. The photo happened because they didn't have the correct people advising them, because the correct people don't know what's what.

She still wants to keep everything private and doesn't want to show her face until it returns to normal - which is sad but understandable on a very human level.

The press are now fuming that they have no idea what's what, and that they were lied to with the photo (which WAS a big deal, even if it wasn't hiding anything more sinister than moon face), hence the Rose articles.

There was no ambulance. There is no evidence it was her or anyone royal in that convoy. The two pap shots are legit, but the one with the face turned was planned and authorised.

I am deep in the K-hole. I hope she's ok but I don't think she is.

There were all those stories last year about the kids education, how K wanted them not to go to Eton and they were seen touring other schools. Then it was suddenly announced G is going to Eton.

The blackout is reminding me of when Charlene of Monaco went off grid and was clearly having some sort of crisis (unhappy/his affairs/love children).

It'll come out, eventually. It's just how Kuch damage is done in the meantime.

The public adored Princess Diana, the People’s Princess, Charles was an ugly piece of wet lettuce, or I should say wet tampon who openly humiliated his wife, him and his mistress openly flaunted their relationship living together at “his” estate not his and his wife’s, he created it for his mistress with no shame. Yet 10s of 1000s of people still celebrated his coronation, his mistress became “Queen”. Their behaviour has been wiped clean with PR campaigns, first to trash Princess Di and then to promote Camilla. Princess Di was from a long standing aristocratic family, with titles and royal connections and the Firm had no problem throwing her to the wolfs. Kate will stand no chance against them if they break up.

No one will care if William turns out just like Charles

People constantly go on about how stunning Kate always looks, personally I think she’s looked tired and haggard for years, every time I look at her I just think of Diana’s struggles with bulimia.

The press said it would not happen. They called her all the nasty names under the sun.

It could be William who also wants out and is bluelighting bad pr. This will sound brutal but he is the future king so he has more choices than most.
They haven't said what she has had done but he may not want to be married to somebody with a stoma or who can suddenly not satisfy his quirky bedroom needs.

And rightfully so as well.

I agree with @ColleenDonaghy’s take and I would add that I think the photo fuckup was probably a case of saving the wrong file or something as simple as someone hitting apple+Z to undo something rather than apple+S to save, and ending up with the wrong layers on the top instead of a flawless photoshop job. One of those tiny work errors that has enormous consequences.

Crisis comms team then meets overnight to figure out the best explanation: they can’t say a PR lackey saved it wrong because that shows the lie of the “simple family shot taken by William, we’re just a normal family with kids, haha” – an image they’ve carefully manufactured for years. Can’t say William edited it as he’s not known for his interest in photography the way Kate is, plus he is the heir to be protected. The “Kate did it, this is her area of interest” explanation rings true, plus they’ll have been banking on sympathy for her, plus it leans into her history with photography and the cultivated image that they’re hands-on, DIY, school run parents.

The poor courtier who saved the draft file as final_FINAL will be quietly fired in due course.
