That wasn't phone hacking: it was the 80s! It was a one in a million thing - a rogue radio enthusiast scanning long wave and picking up the convo. Can't remember which paper he sent the transcript to but the media sat on it for years under legal threats - but then when Charles & Di were publically on the outs and she was coopertaing with Andrew Morton etc, that's when that all came out. Crazy random stuff, really

@Severalwhippets well to be fair they added fuel to the fire with the photoshopped photo showing Kate without her engagement & wedding rings.

Surely if you were going to all the trouble editing & photoshopping the rings could easily have been added.

Giles Coron has a lot to answer for. He started the ridiculous rumour and even though he apologised and said it wasn’t true some people just want to keep it going .

Which was the lie?

When he started the rumour?

Or when he said the rumour wasn't true?

Either way you look at it, he's a liar .

Newsweek is a respectable publication. I'm glad they make it clear that the divorce rumour has no evidence. They are right though, KP needs to make an intervention. Perfect chance tonight as I believe William will be presenting at some sort of awards ceremony, maybe a message from Kate and some warm words about her would be perfect

For example in his piece in The Times back end of last year

Is it not enough to self-identify as Jewish to be Jewish?

To be officially (rabbinically Jewish), your mother must have been rabbinically Jewish. And so on.

I'm not sure but I think the issue with JC, is that his dad (AC) was jewish but his mum wasn't.

So he has jewish heritage but he isn't officially Jewish. (Why is it such a struggle to persuade the iPhone to capitalise properly?)

That's the short answer.

OK, gotcha. Thank you for the explanation. Giles Coren self-identifies as Jewish so maybe there is also a conversion process or maybe he follows the faith and believes that is enough?

A few years ago some Synagogues were even running courses for people whose grandparents were Jewish, to explore the faith and decide if they wanted to be active in the synagogue.
The poster either comes from a very orthododox jewish branch, or does not know what they are talking about.

OK. Thank you. Yes I was a bit confused as he regularly writes about being Jewish, especially recently. But i don't know much about Judaism and always keen to learn more about other faiths not my own. So thank you.

I’m pretty sure both his parents are Jewish.

However I don’t think he is practicing.

I would guess that he is Jewish in the same way that David Baddiel is Jewish - not religious, but that wouldn’t have saved him from the Nazis.

He's just not very popular so people are whipping out the rule books, I think, as well as cross checking everything he's ever written and generally wanting to distance themselves.
