Actually I was referring to her potentially being an ‘easy target’ for an affair rumour a journalist wanted to make up, but now you mention it, I do think the reporting of age-gap marriages can be misogynistic too. (Also as has been mentioned she wasn’t 19).

I once had an acquaintance who would embellish anything you told her and was the last person you could speak to in confidence. I used to have a lot of fun feeding her with misinformation just to see what she did with it.

And I would always look askance at a 19 and 42 year old getting together. It is not misogynistic to recognise the differential power in such an extreme age gap and when one is very young.

surely the whole photo debacle makes the given truth more likely (that she’s avoiding photography because of physical changes due to illness, or just not feeling up to it for mental health reasons)… if their marriage was in trouble then she’s more likely to come out and do a Geri Horner IMO.

Quite frankly I think many on here are deluded. I have sat at numerous dinner parties of friends that have husband’s indiscretions sat nearby. It’s not unusual believe it or not, and most don’t divorce, as they need to keep the estate/house within the family and inheritance(s) in tact. The reporting of age-gap marriages is often misogynistic. The OP herself (among the seven! Rose articles she has shared), has shared one about Rose having a sister also having a 20-year age gap. Not to mention one referring to their ‘ambitious mother’, OP has highlighted.

Reasons good friends of mine have gone low contact with their former fast friends (other than my own story earlier) include:

Disloyalty or disclosure about very personal information told in confidence. (FWIW I bet this has happened here).

Differences in child-rearing approaches, especially discipline methods.

Diverging political views especially about immigration and Brexit, reproduction rights, and minorities.

Perceived rudeness to partner, family member, nanny or housekeeper or overfamiliarity.

One party is very happy and their happiness throws your own unhappiness into high contrast (FWIW I suspect this might also be a factor here).
