The royal family

Why does it matter of Kate edited the photo??

whatisheupto · 12/03/2024 21:18

I feel like I am totally missing the point and I am fed up of being in the dark about it! Please explain it to me!

I genuinely do not know why it matters that Kate tweaked her photo?

Surely the purpose was to edit the usual things that spoil a photo a bit.

Does her editing a photo imply something?

People just don't seem to care they are lied to

It's serious! I may not be a fan of the RF but don't treat us like idiots. William, no you didn't take that pic last week, and poor Kate is taking the rap for this

Tbh I find some of the reactions a bit dramatic

KM got papped in that initial shot where being out of action would have been fine until Easter as planned

This pic tried to get past that but has created a new saga

I don’t feel the same level of drama about it though

skullbabe · 13/03/2024 14:48

Of course there is the over dramatification - this is because this is an exciting story for many people where they are looking for conspiracies here, there and everywhere. You can see it by the sheer number of threads that have popped up about it here by new people - many of the usual royal forum are not really engaging with this becuase of the over the top nature of some of these threads.

But - the madness here aside - KP releasing that picture calls into question all of the information that KP, and by extension, BP release. That is pretty serious and has real implications.

TinkerTiger · 13/03/2024 14:49

Doesn't help that more dubious-looking photos keep being published 🫣

Perhaps someone with more knowledge about photography can explain how the images of the walls looks completely different?

I think the location picture shows a brick wall ( the bricks with light pointing shown through the car window) in front of a house with the narrower bricks.

I don't know about the silhouette- but surely, surely they wouldn't be so stupid to do it again! The photographers and the agency stand by those pics too.

Laundering · 13/03/2024 15:47

That would never've happened fives years ago, even the US media was fairly deferential (mostly out of respect for the Queen)

I don't think the deference will ever return and neither should it. People revered through sheer accident of birth, or through marriage. The die was cast when Charles and Diana divorced. I like Camilla and am passing no personal judgment but ultimately, Charles proved in the 80's that he was never going to be the monarch and head of the church his mother was. There is no gravitas within the Royal Family anymore, and we don't need there to be. Society has moved on.

marmiteoneverything · 13/03/2024 15:56

I thought the implication was that the photo had been heavily edited, rather than it had just been ‘tweaked’ slightly. So either it was made up of composite photos, or something had been done to Catherine’s real face to make her look different (healthier) to how she currently looks.

I might well be wrong though, it might actually have just been the cardigan sleeves, etc.

Spectre8 · 13/03/2024 16:25

If the news articles amof sources saying kate was thrown under the bus and took the blame and William in a way mad there or insisted or whatever shame on him. He shoukd of been protecting his wife and insisting she doesn't take the blame if she didn't do it. Like wtf is going on

Guy from AP on r4 just now said they issue a kill order about once a year. Previously only been used against images offered by the North Korean Govt and similar.

So the pp who compared the situation to N Korea was not exaggerating.

JanglyBeads · 13/03/2024 17:44

Kill notice not order, this is not Star Wars, sorry!

All the more reason for Kate/KP to be oblivious to the possibility- especially when all those photos with Harry’s fake hair routinely make it past the censors!

Quite absurd to suddenly apply the standard now.

JanglyBeads · 13/03/2024 17:50

They haven't changed their standards, it's because of the extent and type of editing of that picture.

The difference is, it's still Harry in the picture irrespective of a few extra tufts of hair

There is a big difference between adding some hair to Harry's head or erasing a spot or red eye .... To a complete mashup edited picture with no datestamp

For KP not to know any of this....well, their Comms people are in the wrong job

Well let’s see what happens. The RF are there for the long haul. If Kate makes her promised reappearance after Easter she will likely attract an unprecedented response and attain cult like status. If anything, this episode has highlighted how much interest there is worldwide in her and William and their children. They are the most famous family on earth now.

Yes she’s pretty much in top demand now

Gstaad · 13/03/2024 18:02

To add, away from these sorts of discussions or Twitter most people think the photo-editing is a complete non-event and just wish Kate well. When she returns, none of this will be held against her.

But the trolls and detractors are going to look pretty stupid

This BBC podcast is a good take on what they call the "PR disaster that is the Royal Family and Kensington Palace at the moment"

Yes deffo there for the long haul. But they need to do better, this has been an almighty faux pas

Gstaad · 13/03/2024 18:05

The only crisis is the one facing the media: people still love Kate but after this they hold the media in more contempt than ever.

Everyone I know thinks it's a big event! We cannot have our Monarchy lying or stretching the truth

Of course Kate won't be blamed! I think she is faultless in all of this and I doubt she was responsible for the pic.

Maybe for you but I am glad the media are showing they uphold standards and we can trust what they report. I find that I am going to be less trustworthy of what the palace now put out as they have shown they are willing to be deceitful

People who like her probably do still and the opposite for those who didn’t anyway

I was about to say exactly this.

The media cannot put out any old picture with superimposed images or whatever, that would be a slippery slope we go down.
I hope KP has learnt from this. There is only so much manipulation of the public you can do

TallerSally · 13/03/2024 18:15

The podcast has a great analogy which could help those folks who keep going on about how this isn't such a big deal, as opposed to a clusterf*ck by Will/Kate/KP:

Imagine if Joe Biden had distributed to the press agencies through the official White House press office a photo doctored to make him look 10 years younger...

To be so tin-eared when even before the photo, speculation about "where's Kate" was absolutely bananas all over social media, to put a doctored photo out there and expect everyone to just go "awwwwwwww so cute - all good then!", just shows how absolutely out of their depth Will/Kate/KP are when it comes to PR.
