Why does it matter of Kate edited the photo??

I feel like I am totally missing the point and I am fed up of being in the dark about it! Please explain it to me!

I genuinely do not know why it matters that Kate tweaked her photo?

Surely the purpose was to edit the usual things that spoil a photo a bit.

Does her editing a photo imply something?

The media is going to be so keen for a pic finally she can do it with style when ready

She’ll be fine, the amount of interest is incredibly high and that means £ for outlets

It's not about Kate. People have been misled by Kensigton Palace and the office of the Prince of Wales. A man who will be installed as our Head of State in a few years, whether we like it or not. There is no ' feels they were misled' about it. KP deliberately misled the public and then threw Kate unde the bus for it, making it all about her.

This! I’m surprised more people aren’t outraged. KP put out a very misleading picture and lied to the public! This wasn’t just airbrushing blemishes, the picture is essentially fake and they lied about when it was taken. They are treating the public like fools. Either share honest information or stick to silence, but lying is beyond unacceptable.

And then kate took the blame so now our future queen is a liar

All the people on here pretending to be experts on 'comms' are really getting on my nerves. It's like Covid all over again when everyone was an amateur epidemiologist.

Just to remind people of what the BPPA said:

"The British Press Photographers’ Association applauds the actions of the major agencies who have had the courage to withdraw the recently distributed image showing Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales and her children by issuing a ‘kill notice’. Their suspicions that the photograph had been digitally manipulated are well-founded and it is important for the reputation of press photography that they have acted as swiftly and decisively as they have.

We are lead to believe that HRH The Princess of Wales has said that she edited the image and has apologised. That should not be an end to the matter however. Whether the picture was manipulated to ‘look nice’ by someone who didn’t understand the importance of truth in images or whether there is something else behind their actions is not as important as getting the message out there that it is wrong.

The BPPA has always spoken up in favour of making sure that the public has trust in the photographs produced by our members as well as those who supply images to the news media. This has become more of an issue since pictures supplied by such a variety of sources have become more common and we would urge all of those sources to have a look at item 1, clause i) of the Editors’ Code of Practice which says:

The press must take care not to publish inaccurate or misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text.

We would urge everyone involved to make the original images available for inspection so that we can assess what has been done, make sure that it doesn’t happen again and allow this story to be the last time that manipulated images are distributed to the media."

It's not about Catherine and it's not about access. It's about how KP have lied and now have hidden behind the woman who has just had surgery and is recouperating in attempt to manage the crisis because they were banking on people's empathy towards her to obsure the fact that they have done something pretty serious. This has worked for some but many moreare now going forward be mistrustful of anything that comes out of KP.

A Mother's Day photo is now comparable to North Korea!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Now this is really hysterical!!
Well done you've won the prize for batshit post of the day!!!

Oh FFS, it's not about the content. I don't really care about a mothers day pic.

But yes I maintain "press agencies kill doctored photo issued by Head of State" is not a headline I expected to read in the UK

jeffgoldblum · 14/03/2024 15:43

For all the prickling posters , do you know why comparing this to North Korea is funny?

Because if we were in North Korea most of the posters here would have been quietly disappeared never to be heard from again!

🙄

I think the reason the comparison's being made is because Phil Chetwynd, global news director of AfP, made that comparison in his interview on BBC Radio 4.

He said: “To kill something on the basis of manipulation is rare. We do it once a year maybe, I hope less. The previous kills we’ve had have been from the North Korean news agency or the Iranian news agency."

So maybe that's where the comparison is form.

Not a bad idea to be fair

If you read Kates statement she didnt say she edited this photo, she said she sometimes edits photos. I don't think she's done it, but for some reason, she has taken the blame. She has a reputation as a photographer. Whether she will be able to do anything related to that again is questionable. I think for some reason, she has been blamed for this when she hasn't done it.

And if she has how incredibly sad. I could never tarnish my own personal reputation so publicly. How utterly humiliating.

Establishment pull together ( including UK tabloid editors) to protect the establishment.

I doubt anyone would be that bothered about your personal reputation.

I also don't see it as "humiliating" either. It's a storm in a teacup that's been massively blown out of proportion. I imagine very few photos shared by high profile people haven't been edited to some degree!

Duh it was obvious that I was implying that if that was me in her position I woukdnt sacrifice my personal reputation to protect an establishment that is so willing to throw a woman under the busbto protect it as it has many a time

Of course they have. This wasn't simple editing, but manipulation and deceit. Kill notices are rarely issued and yet several agencies issued them. It is a bigger deal than a simple edit.

lucette1001 · 19/03/2024 15:00

The only way they survive is to be in cahoots with the media, keeping their secrets and printing their puff pieces/ leaks etc. They think they can play the press but they can't. We will all be better off if the press and the Royals were independent of each other and they were subject to proper scrutiny- including them. They are not best served by being surrounded by people blowing smoke up their arses constantly.

They survive because we are a constitutional monarchy and the monarch is head of state.

Personally I would rather stick with that than risk a republic with some of the ghastly presidents associated. Equally wealthy and privileged, which I'm sure is the next argument, but with no notion of public service. You don't know what you've got til it's gone.

thesleepyhoglet · 12/03/2024 21:19

That it wasn't taken recently which might mean she doesn't look as well as in that photo

Well, I nearly fell for the conspiracy theories, thankfully I waited to see what KP came up with re the picture.

The mothers day pic was edited as press stated but not the main context of the picture, so it was current, IE taken a couple of days before mothers day.. The proof is the video and watching that on a larger screen ie our massive tv, the picture on Mother's day and the video from Sunday, she looks the same, ie lost some weight but looks elegant and composed.

I suspect we will see Kate and her DH around easter on a family outing possibly to the church.

Its good news all round, IMO

So so many people on here who allegedly knew the score and must now be thinking "bugger"!
