I think they literally did it as proof of life, and to try move the story on a bit.

It was an attempt at a retort to the two main chants on SM (which they inadvertently amplified with the doctored photo) - that they are separated and she is v unwell - shows them together and her sitting up / out and about in public.

Have you ever heard her speak? She's useful for photos, producing an heir and spares; not for saying more than one sentence at a time (though even that usually has to be followed by long spells of smiles, nodding or waving).

Has William lost weight? He looks really thin now, I've not really noticed that before but then I wouldn't usually be paying that much attention. What's the deal with the apparent "swaying" as well?

One might have imagined the couple would have been keen to offer a public show of unity, instead we have an image that stirred up even more pressing questions.

If Kate did edit the photo (as she said she did) and released it as William and the PR team were insisting something must be offered to the public. Then Kate damn well wanted us to know the reality behind her silence and withdrawal. I believe Kate knew a missing wedding ring would be noticed straight away.

The media outlets knew the image could not be published, because I don’t believe Kate and William were together that week or on Mother’s Day. That’s why an old photo was hashed up in the first place.

Kate’s comments were pointed ‘I hope everyone celebrating had a happy mother’s day’ It implies not everyone was celebrating. It’s an odd choice of words.

Also the couple knew the set up pap shot was coming, but Kate still turned away. Uncharacteristically looking grim faced, and definitely not interested in offering a comforting image to the nation. Reinforcing concern for her. It was anything but unified with William on his phone.

Are the daily Mail trying to implicitly say that Kate is being hurt in some way with the article about bandages and plasters? Why run that now?

My Guess is KP are buying time hoping Kate will return to the royal fold. Given she has been removed from an appointment in JUNE despite seemingly fit and well that’s looking less and less likely. I guess they didn’t want the public to panic with the timing coinciding with the Kings cancer diagnosis.

There's much more consideration these days for those whose mothers are dead or whose maternal relationships are bad. It was the right choice of words.

Agreed pap shot seems unlikely, given the result. It looks exactly like a snatched shot through a passing car window, grainy with no lighting control and poor resolution. Royal engagements are always published; photographers lurk around to see if they can grab a picture of them leaving/arriving.

Come on. William and Kate knew the photographers would be there. Where else would they be? This is making headlines all over the world, and has been for many months. It’s the biggest news story by far.

It would be amazingly simple for W&K to put a stop to all this by just releasing a genuine photo or short video. They either can't or won't, which begs the question why.

I think that unfortunately they're about to split up.

Because straight after the service at Westminster Abbey he went to an Earthshot Event where he delivered a speech?

Or perhaps because he had notes on which Commonwealth Representatives would be attending t service, so he was up to speed with who he’d be talking to?

Some of you need to get out more. You know absolutely nothing about their relationship but have talked yourselves into a whole narrative that is unconnected to reality.

So if he had so much to do why did he have to drop Kate off to an ' appointment ' on the way? They have never been so short of cars before!

Windsor is quite a way from central London - if they were both going there at the same time why on earth not share a lift?

The sharing the car thing is weird and indicates planned photo to me. I think people are reading too much into the body language in the car, I think she just looked out the window to avoid showing her face.

Gosh, I dont know - I wasn’t there. Neither were you! Maybe the detour to drop Kate off gave him more time to read his notes, not less?

Also, we do know William has accompanied Kate to things before for moral support when there’s been a storm in the press. The day after Meghan accused the family of racism on Oprah for example he went with her to her engagement, despite it being originally planned to be a solo one for Kate. Maybe he thought if she had to drive out of Windsor that day he would travel with her?

I dint think that's true either. She has no choice.

Because the car comes out of the gates quite fast, the photographer only has a few a seconds to take the photo before the car zooms away.
And this is why it’s so weird that for that few seconds when they knew they would be photographed, W chose to be looking at his phone and K chose to be looking at a wall.
