The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

Oh for the days when the Palace announced that the late Queen would be taking some time off.... and then a few months' later they announced that she'd had a baby. That really is how it was done in the 1960s! Greater openness has it's downsides and social media is really to blame for the current mess.

Remember when the Palace announced Meghan had been admitted to hospital in labour when she had given birth hours before? It's all the same terrible communication.

They'd also have to pay their own bills and raise money for their own repairs, as Harry has found out, presumably to his surprise. Their children will have to get jobs off their own bat. Hey wont be able tobtutn up tonthe Baftas or sporting events unkess they do something of note. That's clearly not appealing enough to them to get them to give it all up.

Given their fortune is probably in the billions I doubt they would have much problem paying the bills. The money would run out in a few generations though.

The photo was not edited by a person. When you take a multi shot photo, the software can select a best version for you, which helps to make sure everyone is smiling, eyes open. Kids move around a lot. That's why yhe sleeve is weird - you are seeing the sleeve, and what is behind the sleeve, as her arm has moved between shots. The editing software is clumsy at dealing with it but you have to look close to notice.

This is such a non story - funny though.

So the PoW is lying about editing it herself?

What's your theory on why she did that?

You say that, but Charles was caught stealing £26 million from dead people in Lancashire recently.

Why do something so heinous if you don't need the cash?

ETA: sorry it was £60 million he stole, not £26 million.

They claim to believe their role is in the public good and it suits them very nicely indeed - King Charles net worth (his actual own private money/assets) is estimated at £2 BILLION. Equivalent to say winning Euromillions one hundred times. Not bad for somebody who, born into a normal family, would probably be in middle management somewhere (along with the rest of his family) earning perhaps 50k a year.

Of course the public doesn’t actually agree with the necessity of the royal family at all. Probably 1/3 actively oppose it, 1/3 support it, and 1/3 don’t really care but find it entertaining (although this third usually goes “soft support” in any poll conducted, as who doesn’t enjoy a bit of entertainment etc)

The question is how much of the private wealth should actually belong to the nation. When the royal family has not been properly separated from the state, it all feels a bit blurry. And I think that's why people are tolerating them...

And of course, they would believe they are doing it for the public good. Imagine the accident of birth that makes you a royal. if you didn't find a way to believe in it, you'd not psychologically survive.

He wasn't caught. They are entitled to it for historical reasons apparently although they did lie and say they were giving it to charity, I think.

In what sense is that not stealing??

willWillSmithsmith · 11/03/2024 16:29

To be fair, a lot of the public are stupid. You only have to go out your front door and you’ll see lots of stupid people. Some people don’t even have to leave their house to see stupid people. Nevertheless I think I could do a better job of running their PR machine and I’ve never done PR in my life. I’m not anti monarchist but sometimes they can make even the most patient person 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

It's not stealing if the law states that the Duchy of Lancaster is entitled to the money of those who die without a will. Historically they have kept the money and although recently they have said that they would transfer the money to charity they don't actually have to unfortunately.

I'm going with the weight gain theory, it's the most plausible so far 😂

I'm suspecting she had bunions, and after the surgery she couldn't do her gym routine so sat around watching loose women and got carried away with the biscuit tin.

This genuinely made me giggle.

I was thinking piles surgery myself, I wouldn’t want people to know that and can be a pain to recover from.

CathyorClaire · 11/03/2024 16:33

DrJoanAllenby · 11/03/2024 13:53

She only tidied up the original photo like many people do nowadays.

This is the original.

Maybe she was editing out Uncle Andy gurning in the window 🤓

And in answer to OP. Yes. They still think the public will swallow any old guff they choose to churn out.

Fortunately more and more are seeing through it.

Maybe it was a multi-shot photo put together by software and she then also edited it? And perhaps she committed the rookie error of not reading 10,000 comments on Mumsnet and Twitter to work out that some of the apparent discrepancies don't correspond to the bits she remembers editing?

queenofarles · 11/03/2024 16:36

The whole thing is so bizarre and inexplicable , I honestly can’t think of the reasoning behind it all,
The whole secrecy dealing with her surgery is just strange.

The image is definitely not AI composite editing. The original one has extremely high-resolution as proven by the closeup DM posted here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13180643/Kates-Mothers-Day-picture-taken-Prince-William-digitally-manipulated.html

You can even see a scratch on Charlotte's knuckle and detailed skin texture. No phone camera in the world is able to capture that level of detail, nor have the processing power to edit photos of that size. I've used Google Pixel's perfect image and it requires quite a bit of time to even AI splice a few very basic snapshots together.

It was definitely a human who did the editing and there are telltale signs of Photoshop tools like the clone brush and liquify. I mentioned before that I don't really believe it was Kate as some of the editing appears more sophisticated than you might expect and not that obvious to an untrained eye. The big mistake on the sleeve could have been a layer visibility error and obviously not intended to be seen on the finished image.

Was Kate's Mother's Day picture digitally manipulated

Last night questions were raised over possible digital manipulation of a new family photograph showing Kate with her three children.

It's not just the royal family though. All those in charge, or higher up in society than us peasants, think we're stupid.
I still can't get over Dominic Cummings and his drive to Barnard Castle to test his eyesight. I mean come on. Did anyone accept that?
I find their utter arrogance so insulting.

Roussette · 11/03/2024 13:29

^^ This

I just think they haven't got an ounce of common sense.

If they wanted to release something on Mother's Day, why not have just the kids painting or drawing a Mother's Day card with thanks from Kate for all the support from the public. Yes there would still be speculation but people would understand as she has been ill and it wouldn't have ended up with this complete cock up

(Before anyone says it is using the kids, they have done it before many a time so why not)

Was going to post the exact same sentiment

I think she's had a breakdown of some sort. Her's and Williams relationship must be affected by Harry/meghan/charles is unwell. She's got abdominal issues after thinking that was all done after 3 pregnancies with GH. William will be king sooner than anticipated and for her the thought of the coronation etc has given her mental health issues. Also this might sound silly but the Crown final series has shown a lot of her as a younger version and might've brough back bad memories with press etc. She's only human.

Seriously? I knew it wouldn’t be long before some people would blame Harry and Meghan for Kate’s health. If she’s had a breakdown, don’t you think it’s more likely to be because of William’s long standing affair with her friend Rose Hanbury, which is reported on frequently in media publications outside the UK, but is not allowed to be reported in the UK due to a press blackout.

I tend to agree with this. I am in no way a conspiracy theorist but:

  • Covid party gate
  • Tony Blair’s war in Iraq
  • (Still won’t let go of) Prince Andrew at Pizza Express
  • Oxfam’s aid workers abusing women in crisis

Like you say, it’s the arrogance of the lies. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Of course they think we're stupid.

Bloody peasants have been funding their lifestyle of privilege for centuries, and happily at that.

Same people can't turn their heating on but are still willing to kiss the Royals' boots and defend them to the death.

Of course they think we're stupid. And they are right.

Yes lots of people did. Loads and loads of social media posts at the time defending him. Not necessarily defending what he did but saying we should give the poor guy a break, this criticism might result in him killing himself 🙄 That kind of thing.

skyfly · 11/03/2024 16:50

I start to wonder if they’re actually trying to divert public attention to this story (which is in a way “no-story” but created a lot of PR around the royal couple as even a negative news coverage is still a coverage), so that other issues that this country and Europe are gripping with are left unnoticed.
