The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

The current government is so dysfunctional that William actually does have an opportunity - without getting involved in politics - by leading by example and setting some kind of moral compass.

Good question. Let’s look at what William’s done int he last two and half months, shall we, bearing in mind that he also had to cancel various things because his wife was seriously well and his Dad was then diagnosed with cancer:

by highlighting environmental issues
He’s had two Earthshot engagements in the last week, including celebrating a nonplastic company getting a big supply contract for large event catering

conspicuously rejecting xenophobia / racist tropes
He made a statement about the conflict in Isreal/Palestine and met representatives of each community to talk about the importance of listening and building communication channels, and the rise in antisemitism.

by being ultra transparent with contract procurement
That’s one for his household and the Duchy of Cornwall, presumably, not William personally? At any rate, he advertised openly for a CEO last year, which helps with transparency - it’s not just an automatic appointment from the Cabinet office.

by highlighting links between the UK and Europe
He and Kate were supposed to be visiting Rome this month, but the trip was beacuse of Kate’s health

demonstrating a One Nation unionism that warmly embraces Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
He was in Wrexham in Wales for St David’s Day (not this year, but he was, to our knowledge, last in Scotland in November last year to highlight organisations supporting rural communities)

by highlighting the importance of good school infrastructure
Education is highly politicised though! And what does good school infrastructure mean? He visited a school while in Wrexham, in any event.

by celebrating the NHS…
He gave a speech at a charity fundraiser for the Air Ambulance Service, which is a health charity. He’s also used the investitures he took part in to highlight those being given honours for their work int he NHS - eg the woman who recruits foreign nurses to work for NHS hospitals.

Puhleeeeeeese.

The average CEO of a large corporation co do all that in about 2 days.

CEOs, as are heads of state, are highly, highly leveraged.

With the limited amount of work the PoW has to do, and with the staff he's got working for him, he should be able to be orders of magnitude more productive than he is.

TallerSally · 13/03/2024 14:10

Quite.

Walmart has 2'100'000 employees. The CEO and Chair of the Board are so busy they had to make thousands of clones of themselves... 😆

Sorry TallerSally, not sure I’m picking up what you mean.

Two days max!

He gave a speech, he made a statement, he celebrated something and lets not forget he badly pulled a pint.
All male royals have to do this. It's obligatory. Don't know why but it is

Serenster · 13/03/2024 14:19

(A) That’s not everything he’s done, obviously. Just the things he’s done that mapped across to LittleGlowingOblong’s Objectives
(B) We don’t know everything he does either.
(C) Most CEOs I know would consider that a good outcome against objectives for not even Q1, considering what else they generally have to spend their days on. Is your imaginary CEO not meeting with investors, auditors, regulators, press team, direct reports, journalists, business contacts and sitting in internal governance committees the way the ones I know have to? Lucky them, if so!

Ah, the dangers of attempting to opine on matters based on "people I know tell me this or that", as opposed to first hand experience...

At any rate, PW is not a CEO. And he hasn't exactly earned the moniker of Workshy Willy due to his hyperactivity....

Serenster · 13/03/2024 14:30

Are you a CEO of a large organisation thenTallerSally? I presume you must be then given you’ve opined upthread on what they can easily achieve.

TallerSally · 13/03/2024 14:33

Returning to the topic of this thread, it's no surprise Kate had to photoshop the pic herself, what with Willy being so busy with the school run... and doing 1:1 coaching on PR skills with his 50 employees.

According to reports Princess Anne is very busy all the time, but you’d be very lucky to pick a random member of the public who could tell you what she has done.

Whatever the job is, it’s not like normal jobs.

BenefitWaffle · 13/03/2024 15:09

@Merrymouse If people wanted to they could look up the engagements Anne has carried out.

Their diaries are published. The Princess Royal has 6 pages of engagements in hers , for the next 8 weeks. The PoW has 2 entires.

Does Catherine’s show she has expired?

The upcoming engagements section on the Royal family website used to be filled out, but several of the royal family members stopped that during Covid, to avoid large crowds turning up to their engagements. William and Kate in particular have never really gone back to having it filled in - security is sometimes suggested as a reason for this. Their engagements therefore are known to the people they are visiting, and to the press in advance, but not otherwise.

BenefitWaffle · 13/03/2024 15:46

Or to avoid scrutiny?
There were rarely large crowds, but they do have security.

He is having an affair and she does not like it, but must stick to the marriage. It would affect any of us.

C’mon her coronation outfit was fantastic. And she rode there.

wordler · 13/03/2024 20:36

There's clearly the capacity for a lot of work behind the scenes - of course we can't say if William is or is not doing that, but in this clip Harry and William talk about their father staying up late every night through their whole childhood working on admin and paperwork, so it's possible William is doing a lot more desk work than we know.

Princes William and Harry talked about their father

Charles as Prince was known to be very active in the running of the Duchy. William hired a CEO to do the job.
The Duchy gives the heir a substantial income.

Charles was also very involved in the Princes Trust. William didn't want to take it over. He's Harry with better PR.

As ever, @Serenster your posts are considered and informative.
I would also like to know the answer to this question.

ChVrches · 13/03/2024 20:55

Roussette · 13/03/2024 12:01

How do you know there is a lot of work behind the scenes? You don't know that because he has so many staff running things for him. The Duchy, for instance, is run by nearly 200 staff, I doubt William spends hours himself having much to do with it. But he does take a massive income from it of course

What do you really expect him to do though? Be out there lassooing Dartmoor ponies, installing bat houses, making jam? He is the heir to the throne.

BenefitWaffle · 13/03/2024 20:57

@ChVrches doing the number of engagements Charles did as Prince for a start.
