Just caught something about this online. It sounds horrific.

Oh! I thought the alleged abuser was a male.

There are quite a few abusers in the book. Some obviously paedophiles, sadists or both.

Thanks for clarifying. I have requested the book from the library.

The more men come out about this sort of thing the better. James O’Brien has spoken powerfully fairly recently about the abuse his peers suffered at Ampleforth.
And no, of course it’s not just private schools. But the conditions in a boarding school are perfect for abusers-a closed community, often a culture of not “telling”, often parents invested in believing they are doing the right thing by their boys, a hierarchy which makes boys on the lower rungs of the tree particularly vulnerable…

Nicky Campbell too.

I was shocked to discover friends & colleagues were routinely hit with a cane on a bare bottom in the early 90s at Prep school.

Very much agree. It’s so important that people speak up. Abusers rely on silence.

Victims should be applauded not shamed for speaking out.

Yes. Nicky Campbell was at Edinburgh Academy.

This really makes me think about how deeply rooted abuse is in our societies. I believe it’s so important to expose it to bring those fleas to light. He’s incredibly brave for sharing his experience and standing up against it, and that alone makes a huge difference. I hope he’s doing well and receiving all the support he needs.

But some people say that change is a bad thing... Totally sick.
