Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

Great photos so far!

I've added some of my favourites. Mia Tindall with the late Queen’s handbag is adorable, imvho.

I also really like the one with George standing on the blocks. It was taken like that so the Royal Mail could extract 4 head-shots for a special edition of stamps.

@Lifeinlists
I was just about to post the grandchildren photp, i love the little one clutching the queen's handbag

Maireas · 06/03/2024 20:31

I love that one of the late Queen with the Wessex children and the great grandchildren, especially little Mia picking up Granny's handbag!

This photo taken by Sophie Wessex while on holiday

I do so love that one. Gentle, relaxed and happy

Not particularly beautiful shots or anything, more just funny.
I've no idea what she'd done, but I like how she looks like she's maybe just smashed a window or something

That was in Ireland, at a GAA club. Lashed sliotar out of the pitch 😂

Roussette · 06/03/2024 20:33

That's a very sweet one of William cuddling George

Agree, all the great grand children ones with the Queen are so cute and sad too 🥹

Maireas · 06/03/2024 20:35

Oh my god! Charles with little Louis! 😍

Crucible · 06/03/2024 20:35

Fabulous photos

The first time.i went to the National Gallery and saw this at age 10 I guess, I was just so completely gobsmacked and I froze. The power of it still makes me stop in the gallery.

Love the one of all four generations with Prince George on the box! He has a lovely smile.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed it was Princess Anne. She looks absolutely stunning.

Great idea for a thread OP.

Much criticised at the time for being heavily airbrushed. But he was a fashion photographer. He knew that fantasy was wanted. Vaseline on the lens.
PA is absolutely admirable but she's never really looked this good.

It's great, isn't it? He looks so sweet and happy. What a lovely image of the four of them.

@Crucible amazing painting. Is it lady Jane grey?

Crucible · 06/03/2024 20:37

If you're not familiar its the execution of lady Jane grey by Paul Delaroche. Historically a little bit hokey and very melodramatic but I still love it. The centre figure of Jane still makes me gulp.

this is one of my favorite paintings, the real painting the gold is amazing

I haven’t come across this one before, I love it! Thank you for sharing 💐

Sorry for my terrible screenshot.

Yes, it's cleverly done, isn't it? Jane in white, unable to find the scaffold.

EdithWeston · 06/03/2024 20:38

@Lifeinlists

I think the one of all the DGC and the youngest two GC is a wonderful picture. Victorian in it's composition, elaborateness an muted tones, with ER II definitely centre stage, but Mia and the handbag making it so much more human

But aren’t modern day ones even more contrived with lighting and editing and filtering anyway?

pipsfromthefuture · 06/03/2024 20:46

I think this one was such a great shot and idea

It must be so nice for those great grandchildren now, to see those lovely pictures. You never know when it'll be your last chance.

pipsfromthefuture · 06/03/2024 20:47

Also this one of Elizabeth and Harry (taken by Tim Graham)
