Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

You'd never see ties at a school fete / sports day now!

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2024 12:28

I know!!! Humorously formal 😀

crumblingschools · 08/03/2024 12:30

@Mumsnut DH used to run in suit and tie (Although sometimes took tie off if feeling particularly competitive 😂) in the parents’ race at DS’s Primary school sport’s day as would pop in to watch before or after work

AnnunciataM · 08/03/2024 13:34

Same with the women’s clothes. Diana and the other mums must only be early 30s at the most but look older due to the frumpy (for want of a better word) fashions. One mum is running in white pantyhose!

BenefitWaffle · 08/03/2024 13:38

Our children may think the same when they look back at photos of as mums. Fashions change.
And back then people did dress more formally every day.

I've always liked the colours in this picture, it looks beautiful.

I know Kate got a bit of stick online for wearing such a light yellow but actually I think it all looks deliberately coordinated. The women (the queen, Camilla, Doria and Kate) all in fresh pastel/spring colours), the bridesmaids in white, the green and white bouquets and headdresses, and the green of the room work really well. Kate would have stood out and looked off in, say, bright pink or navy etc. I think it was planned well and comes together really nicely.

Camilla’s hat looks mahoosive 😆

This event prior to the 2017 London Marathon had lots of photos taken from different angles, but I think this was my favourite.

Camilla didn’t want to marry him though. Andrew Parker Bowles was seen as the better catch in their circle.

According to other versions she got fed up of waiting for Charles to propose because his family disapproved and she married APB, an ex of Anne. He would hardly be seen as a better catch than the POW, APB was always a bit of a jack-the-lad, as the lower orders describe it! I love the story that seeing another woman's car outside ABP's flat very late at night she let his tyres down!

BenefitWaffle · 08/03/2024 13:58

Why would he not be seen as a better catch?
I have no idea which version is true, but you can not tell from the outside who someone will prefer as a husband.

StormzyinaTCup · 08/03/2024 13:58

@jeffgoldblum that sports day photo is very ‘of its time’. It’s great 😊

In the spirit of wanting to keep this going, I'll kick it off today with the woman I think of as THE BOSS! What an amazing queen she would have been if only she'd been born first and/or the rulz were different. She'd have queened it up as good as her mum did I reckon! 😂

Charles must be so pleased to have her as a sibling, he has clearly upped her role since his Accession. She was the 'spare' when her mother became Queen until Andrew was born 8 years later, she has now dropped way down the batting order because she's female yet has anyone ever heard her whine about the unfairness of it?

You do realise that in 35 years time your children will look at photos of you and laugh, we've all done it! If you see photos of sporting events in the 50s you'll see that most of the men are wearing ties and some kind of headgear, a bowler or a flat cap depending on social position! Casual clothing only really started for the wider population in the 60s.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 08/03/2024 14:14

I think Anne is very much a 'get on with it' person, like Philip. No-one ever heard him whingeing, either.

I also think Anne's life is probably exactly how she likes it.; I don't think she'd want Charles's role.

I think so too! , and I love the fact that both parents really gave it their all to win for their kids!
So normal!

I remember almost gasping when I saw Kate in the gold dress

That gold dress was stunning, wasn't it. IIRC it was one of the first big events after lockdown, so it sent a 'back with a bang' message. (Camilla's pale blue was very pretty too, but I noticed when she was Duchess of Cornwall she was always careful not to upstage the Queen or Catherine if she was at an event with them .Now she's Queen, of course, she can go all out.)

ETA - thinking about it, this must be (partly) why HMTLQ wanted Camilla to be Queen. If she'd remained D. of Cornwall, W&C would now outrank her, and it would be very awkward on formal occasions when everyone goes in order of precedence.

Not quite. She would always, in practice, have been the Queen consort because she is married to the King. Originally, however, she was to be known as “Princess Consort” in view of public sensibilities around Diana

Josette77 · 08/03/2024 15:20

That gold dress was fabulous. She looked more Hollywood than Hollywood.

Maireas · 08/03/2024 16:18

Kate's gold dress 🥇 - perfection 👌

TallerSally · 08/03/2024 10:52

This one was a classic, the happiness on both Meghan and Harry's faces shines through (despite the post-partum puffiness, in Meg's case!) 😂

I don't really think of Meghan as beautiful (not my sort - I also don't think Catherine is - both are good looking IMO) However on that photo I think Meghan is utterly beautiful.

ArcaneWireless · 08/03/2024 16:27

I do think most women gazing at their new born look beautiful.

There’s an expression that cannot be replicated which seems to surpass the physical beauty and takes it to a whole other realm.

It is hard to put into words.
