Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

Charles II

What's more iconic than the king who brought back partying?

TWETMIRF · 07/03/2024 19:40

I tried to get George II's lip bite but couldn't find a suitable picture so went with Charles instead

ArcaneWireless · 07/03/2024 19:45

And that one of Prince Phillip in the rain too.

There is such a poignancy to it.

I look at that photo and I’m incredibly moved. I’m not even sure why.

It is, to me, beautiful.

These two thoroughly enjoy each other's company

Oh my gosh he is so smitten.

I love these two together.
Most photos of Camilla I've seen are either laughing or making others laugh.

She seems very joyous. I think the royal family needs her spark.

settledorn · 07/03/2024 20:02

I'd love to go to the pub with Camilla. She strikes me as good fun, irreverent, wouldn't really have an off button.

TWETMIRF · 07/03/2024 20:02

I like pictures of Sarah and Diana together, the 2 outsiders.

It’s lovely seeing them interact and seeing the friendship

Agree with the Camilla comments too, she does seem joyful

LadyMuckonpancakes · 07/03/2024 20:13

Charles and Camilla just look so right together. It’s lovely to see.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 07/03/2024 20:16

Lovely. Enjoying these. Thank you

Is it Princess Grace oM ?

I've only caught up to 0921 today so I don't know if the answer is revealed later, but I thought Grace Kelly when I saw it.

This photo taken by Sophie Wessex while on holiday

I’ve never seen this photo before and it’s absolutely lovely, looks like they were having such a relaxing happy time

Crispyturtle · 07/03/2024 20:54

If you google ‘Charles and Camilla laughing’ there are loads of really fab photos of them looking like they’re having the best time, no one can tell me they aren’t a great match

eggandonion · 07/03/2024 21:02

I have just read an article on prince Philip at jfk's funeral. I didn't know he had tea with de Valera. I suppose it had elements of an Irish funeral!

I look at photos of Charles with Camilla and feel very sad that so many lives were badly affected by the decision that he couldn't marry her because of her 'past', it's not as though he didn't have a 'past'.

Camilla didn’t want to marry him though. Andrew Parker Bowles was seen as the better catch in their circle.

ArcaneWireless · 07/03/2024 21:20

I look at them and think I’m glad they both finally found their happiness.

Laiste · 07/03/2024 21:20

@upinaballoon we were wrong!

The poster of the photo came back and said who it was, but i've forgotten the name! Blush

Lady Helen Windsor it was

If France still had their monarchy it would be this man, Prince Louis de Bourbon, and his family. A very good looking family!

Ah! He does have a kingly look to him

BalloonSlayer · 07/03/2024 21:37

In the book "The Assassination of JFK, minute by minute" it says that Jackie came across Prince Philip playing with John Jr during the funeral reception. PP said he reminded him of Charles at that age. Sad fact - the funeral was on John Jr's 3rd Birthday.

It just looks ridiculous- absolutely unnatural.

I don’t think so. It looks very atmospheric to me.

HellersK · 07/03/2024 21:52

Princess Grace of Monaco. Absolutely incredible.

There are such great photos in here, with interesting background attached to some which has made for an interesting and fun thread.

What I think makes a photo iconic to me, are those that are striking in some way (really make me stop in my tracks), create discussion, and most importantly can be considered timeless.

There are quite a few really good examples in here, but the ones of Diana by Tetino especially, the one of Meghan and Harry by Hussein, the one of the King and Queen of Bhutan, the photo of Margaret in the tub, Catherine's eyes, and the 'ghostly' image of Meghan in the chapel, are top of mind when I think about what iconic photos means to me and would be my top examples of that.

Photos that 'age' well over time. Diana's photo for example look like they could have been taken yesterday.
