Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

The Diana one that @Serenster chose is beautiful as is the wedding photo of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy on her wedding day - what a happy smile.
The iconic Meghan and Harry walking in the rain photo is simply stunning.
The poignancy of the photo of the Queen at Prince Phillip's funeral and to think they were partying in Downing Street.

TallerSally · 07/03/2024 14:53

And could this be the first ever (and last?) official british royal family photo with three persons of colour in it?

A happy photo - nice to see...

I am not a royalist but this is a lovely thread OP - thanks.

Some lovely photos. The ones that seem the best as photos to me are the Mia/Handbag one and the one of Meghan coming down the aisle -I've never seen it before but that is a magically composed image.

There's also the one of lady Louise covering her ears at William and Kate's wedding! I would say that's a least a notable photo, if we're using iconic too freely.

That was Grave Van Cutsem rather than Lady Louise

They were actually born in the same year!

Really????

Marilyn always seemed so young and the Queen so much more mature.

It's interesting because MM had so much trauma and abuse as a child and still seemed so soft and gentle.

She also apparently had endometriosis and suffered a miscarriage because of it. I have had the same experience with pregnancy losses and infertility.

There's a story that her last surgery for Endo she raped a note to her stomach begging them not to take her ovaries.

This is my favourite pic of her. This is in my dining room.

Great thread, thanks so much OP @pipsfromthefuture 🌺

When I see a pic of Princess Margaret I'm always struck by how beautiful she is.

I feel she was pretty much forgotten after her death, just a month before the Queen Mother. There was such pageantry with the QM's death, Margaret's passing just faded away.
Whenever Sarah Chatto or Lord Snowdon are mentioned (funerals & coronations) I think 'oh yeah, the Queen had a younger sister.

The one of Megs doing yoga I love. I used to follow her on suits ( I'm a Toronto girl.)

She looks fabulous in that picture, but I think that's partly because she's got a lovely figure and is very pretty.

However it made me get several strong men to roll me off the sofa and see if I could do that (Bow pose).
And it was surprisingly easy.

I think it's excellent that it's out there as a Good Thing in the way of "You don't need to be able to lick your own elbow to do yoga, nearly everyone can do this".

Completely agree!

I love that pose because it's not too hard and it's a great heart opener. 💝

Diana falling asleep is amazing. She looks regal even asleep. 💝

Also Camilla just radiates fun. I think she is the wife Charles needed. She seems grounded but never too serious.

Maybe, maybe not. They had plenty of family photos with persons of colour in it previously while Lady Davina Windsor was married to Gary Lewis, with whom she has two children Tane Mahuta and Senna Kowhai, long before Harry even met Meghan. Gary appeared on the Buckingham Palace Balcony for Trooping the Colour regularly. I haven’t done a comprehensive search to see if their children came too - they might have, as they attend now! You can see Senna Kowhai on the left of this photo with George.

As an aisle, I love lady Helen Taylor’s whimsical dress sense. She loves colour and is not afraid to wear it!)

Im not a massive fan of Harry and Meghan but the walking in the rain and the family group with Archie are lovely in such different ways. So much happened between the photos being taken.

Diana’s gown is almost whimsically Cinderellaesque! 🤩

I agree about Camilla - I think they seem so lovely together, having weathered so much

I know nothing about them, but it looks as though as he got older his choice of wives got younger?

And taller . . .

Josette77 · 07/03/2024 15:42

Op you reminded me how much I love photography.

I've had friends ask if I'd do portraits of them even though I just have my phone.

I've been trying to figure out what I want to do career wise instead of being an editor.

I'm looking at nice beginner cameras and I'm going to tell my friends I'm looking for models.

So thank you! This has inspired me a ton!

Who is this in the middle here? Is it the QM?

Anne.

It’s QEII, Anne and Charles

Gettingonmygoat · 07/03/2024 16:21

I can't seem to find my favourite phot of H.M, it was taken by Arthur Edwards at Kings Cross Station. HM was on her way to Sandringham and Edwards managed to capture her on her own walking along the platform, she was wearing her brown mac, a headscarf and carrying her handbag, just looked any Granny getting on the train.

I thought it was Anne - and it’s the late Queen on the left - Charles is the boy. Hopefully I’ll be corrected if that’s wrong
