Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

But why are they wearing matching royal blue satin hairdressing gowns???

Because the photographer thought they'd look good like that? Was it Lord Snowden or A N Other?

bruffin · 06/03/2024 23:09

My photo, they were following us on road trip in NZ in 2018🤣

I love Diana’s Mario Testino photo shoot. She looked so fresh and modern.

I see, in so many photos, that there seems to be such genuine affection betweeen the late Queen and Sophie.

There is such a natural ease in true companionship.

You can really see William in that photo

I think this is a cracking pic - I love Catherine’s expression, but not her outfit!

Yes, very much so.

LunaNorth · 06/03/2024 23:13

Gosh, to think that William (and Catherine) is actually older than poor Princess Diana ever was. So sad.

HoHoHoliday · 06/03/2024 23:15

These two photos come to mind. The engagement portrait of Charles and Lady Di, with the huge blue rock on her finger and matching blue outfit. This photo is soooo 80s!
And then a few years later, Charles photographed just being a dad, I remember seeing both of these photos at the time they were released and loving them.

No idea! I was just flicking through the thread, and thought it was an oddly-costumed shot. I’d seen it before, and vaguely assumed Garter robes or some such, but it’s not. It’s actually a very good photo of the QM, which is unusual, as she wasn’t photogenic, but not of her daughters, who both have that tight-lipped, gimlet eyed expression they both sometimes have in photos. (Not that I’m criticising — my own resting bitch face is notorious…)

Sarah and Diana up to no good!

Adore this one

I think that's Annie Lebovitz, it's great.

HoHoHoliday · 06/03/2024 23:26

A couple more for fellow nordics. This one of Queen Margrethe used to announce that she would abdicate, she looks glowing and beautiful. And then the next one, where she is abdicating, she signs a document, bows to her son (new king) and leaves the room crying. It was a sad moment to watch.

It was for an official portrait, so coordinated attire for the aesthetics. The picture is by the famous photographer, Norman Parkinson. They are wearing capes in Royal blue.

Kate is really beautiful, isn’t she?

She really is. She's got a face you can't look away from.

pipsfromthefuture · 06/03/2024 23:31

Great additions @HoHoHoliday thank you!!! Must have been so emotional, but historical beautifully shot photos

I seem to remember that they got into trouble for that. From HM!!

pipsfromthefuture · 06/03/2024 23:35

Can't believe this one hasn't been posted yet! It was talked about so much.

I remember wondering if it was real or a painting.

Yes, that really does have a Rembrandt quality to it. The lights and darks and the orange hat setting off the monochrome.

pipsfromthefuture · 06/03/2024 23:39

Also this one, that looks like it came from a bridal editorial
