DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 04/03/2024 23:20

The press has published pics of HRH with her mum in mum Audi on a
"school run." HRH was seated in the front passenger seat.

Wishing HRS Kate a speedy recovery!!

There was a lot of unhappiness at the time about the boys being made to walk behind their mothers coffin. Diana's brother spoke out against the idea and received a lot of public support as a result.
I have no idea why it happened. But the popular theory at the time was that the family were worried members of the public would throw things as the family walking behind the coffin, but they would not do that if the boys were there. By popular theory, I mean people were talking about this theory and it was written about in the press.

Or it could be a completely random person who is also known to the family. Other people than K&P are allowed to associate with their mother!

…that look exactly like them?

BardRelic · 05/03/2024 12:16

Oh I'd forgotten about the super recogniser who wasn't sure if it was her or not.

Apparently corvids are very good at recognising people. Perhaps we could find one and ask it? It might have to be a bird that Catherine has been nice or nasty to in the past though. So there might be a slight flaw in my cunning plan.

WestLondonmumfromtheNorth · 05/03/2024 12:17

Agree. I was newly moved to London when Diana died. Remember thinking the country had lost the plot. The smell of decaying flowers around KP will forever live in my memory. Brits and their ‘stiff upper lip’ myth was dispelled that week.
Think Diana dying saved them as they became more media savvy after that. I recall the Late Queen being very disliked in the 80s (in the North at least) but after this she was a little more human and as she got older it became unseemly to be mean about an old lady doing her duty.
Now we have the ‘age of the conspiracy’ (have to admit I do laugh along with a lot of them). With the public getting more crazy (and worldwide) and the Royals employing PR that can’t decide if it is creating a progressive, modern image or if it should stick to traditional values (like the Late Queen always did to no ill effect). Basically mixing between the two, badly, as the mood takes them. It will not end well.
I too am waiting for the Royals to fall on their sword. Mind, since we can’t cobble a decent government together at the moment I don't see the urgency in declaring a republic and having a second layer of elected idiots.
The one I feel most sorry for is Charlotte. One day she will be Princess Royal and be compared to both Princess Anne for her work ethic and Kate for glamour. She needs to get the hell out as soon as she can! Kate signed up for this so needs to take the crazy along with the good or leave.

AInightingale · 05/03/2024 12:24

That really doesn't look like Kate, unless she's receiving steroids and her face has changed considerably, but doesn't she also have a mole on her cheek? Might it be a member of their staff, one of her female friends helping out, or just some acquaintance of Carole's?

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/03/2024 12:25

Theres no guarantee Charlotte will be Princess Royal. She could very easily be in her 30s by the time Anne dies and a respectable amount of time passes before they give the title again. If she’s not a working royal, or has been given another title by then, it may not be given to her.

The comparisons are likely to happen as you say though. Regardless of title.

HostaFireandIce · 05/03/2024 12:28

Does look oddly like a conglomeration of Catherine and Pippa. Did they shave the brother?

ItsAllAboutTheDosh · 05/03/2024 12:30

This photo was published first in a foreign tabloid. It does not come from a reputable source. It may or may not be Catherine, illness can change how you look. But until the palace confirm it is Catherine I will not be taking this as gospel.

You seem intent on a fight. You won't get one. I think in terms of accuracy another poster brought the subject up rather than me, though I did reply. The other thread had stopped taking messages but I have to say that my 'arse was not handed to me' whatever that means - weird phrase.

Of course I don't get imminent divorce from a single grainy photo. I get divorce from all the other clues over recent years coupled with all the recent rumours across social media. Obviously the rumours could be wrong, which is fine.

As I said, the point was solely - presumably you understand the word solely? - in response to the idea that the photo was set up by KP 'to reassure'.

It really was, I'm sorry.

I've posted about the divorce rumour upthread. Dan Wootten is your man. Giles Coren is the other one. The UK press dropped Wootten's narrative almost immediately because there was no basis for it and didn't want to fall foul of libel laws. The US press has no such restraints and neither does SM. A rumour was borne. It rolled around and around the web, and was picked up with glee by the Sussex Squad and a certain author whose name I won't mention here but who is a prominent supporter of theirs. And it's back again now, promoted into something it never was, by someone saying that a grainy photo of two women not smiling whist driving supports a divorce narrative.

And even if the photo was a set up by KP to reassure, I don't really know how you leap from it being an ineffective piece of PR on her health/wellbeing to "she looks down because she's getting a divorce". That's what makes zero sense to, I am going to guess, everyone reading what you were posting.

Anyway, no, I'm not looking for a fight. Far too early in the day to ruffle my feathers over nonsense.

WestLondonmumfromtheNorth · 05/03/2024 12:34

upinaballoon · 05/03/2024 10:50

Precisely.
I do think it's Catherine and her face does look a bit puffy. I know steroids are given in lots of different kinds of cases, although I never needed them myself so far. What would they be for?
When you're getting better from something there's always a day when you're ready to walk outside a while and then go another step and ride out before the next dose or nap. It reminds me of Catherine Earnshaw being ill and then feeling better and the window being opened and the breeze from the moor coming into her bedroom. On that lyrical note I'll be hung up by my thumb nails for sins of de-railment.

Steroids would be given after a Kidney transplant, along with a whole host of anti-rejection drugs.

My mum had two… as they don’t always take. Each lasted about 10 years before machine dialysis and decline.

Hope for her sake it is not this (it is one of the theories as London clinic do this procedure and Royals usually go next door to King Ed hospital). Renal failure takes its toll and you don’t tend to make very old bones (my mum had first at 37 and dies at 59… living several years longer than they predicted but in decking in and terrible health for the last 10 years).
But it’s such a bad photo it’s impossible to really see her face.

CurlewKate · 05/03/2024 12:38

As a rabid Republican who'd have them all up against the wall, I think publishing that picture is utterly shocking.

AInightingale · 05/03/2024 12:41

Sorry you lost your mum so young @WestLondonmumfromtheNorth.

I knew a fella who had a bowel re-section due to severe Crohns, and he had to take steroids and did gain a lot of weight around his face and neck.

ArcaneWireless · 05/03/2024 12:42

curlew.

I agree. There was no need to publish that.

I don’t think much more of the British press and their “we’re not publishing this as that would be wrong, but here is exactly where you can find it”

No better in my book.

😂😂😂😂
Do "super-recognisers" change their minds much?

It's her. No, it isn't. Hmm, it could be.
Yeah, I think it is.

That's not very super!

You know so much about it, I can tell.

Yes, it's fairly important to go through a process, and come to the right conclusion. That's what I'm counted on to do.

It's not about going "THAT'S HER!" and shutting down every other train of thought.

In other words - when I'm working - it's about getting it consistently, reliably right, often by studying barely visible, partial images (not in this case, obviously), and not by being being first to yell the answer.

Esse1234 · 05/03/2024 13:11

Having looked at it again I think it looks more like Pippa than Kate. Cansu on Twitter has posted a photo of Pippa next to the one that's meant to be Kate in the car and it does look more like Pippa, the shape of her face particularly.

Plus doesn't Kate have a protection officer, there was no one else in the car.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 05/03/2024 13:11

KP has now said her attendance isn't confirmed so I suppose it's full speed ahead again with speculation. I wonder if it was just an automated list that was jumped on as being significant.

Kjones27 · 05/03/2024 13:16

That's Pippa!

Pippas face shape has a much wider jaw than kates.

Why are they saying its kate. That is making things look suspicious

This supercilious narrative of ‘baying public’ needs to stop

Those of us reading this thread, seeing the social media and newspaper coverage and (in some cases, certainly mine) remembering first hand what happened in the first week of September 1997 are perfectly able to make up our own minds about what we are seeing, thank you.

True

If only they used their powers for good eh!

It looks like Pippa to me too

Kjones27 · 05/03/2024 13:20

That is clearly pippa in the photo.

It's a bit stupid of the newspapers.

They obviously are paying photographers a big fee for the photo of "the first sighting of kate"

So photographers are lying to the papers about getting a photo of Kate when they didn't.

I wonder how much the pap got paid for this wrong photo of kate

”They” haven’t said it is anyone at all. It’s all speculation on social media as to whether it is the Princess, her sister or some random acting as a double.

Oh thank God! I'm so relieved...I feel like I've been holding my breath since Christmas Day.

Tonight will be the first decent nights sleep I've had in weeks.
