It’s because Andrew will be there and he doesn’t want to risk any accidental meetings/controversy.

Why is Andrew there?

HemlockSoup · 27/02/2024 14:36

Francis Urquhart would know how to deal with Andrew.

Why is Andrew there?

Presumably Constantin's family invited him.

I always love how everything's obviously some big drama or portent of doom or conspiracy with you lot!

Has anyone considered that maybe he just pulled out because he spent all morning with the shits and couldn't get off the toilet long enough to attend?

People with tummy bugs who can't get off the toilet long enough to attend a memorial service don't head out for a drive the same morning!

No, I think the king does have cancer. I think the timing and the way our attention has been diverted to it is to try and distract us from a potentially seriously ill Kate?

But the timing isn't in their control - he had to cancel engagements so they had to say something, it's not like he could have carried on as normal without mentioning anything was wrong.
And it doesn't make sense to distract from one ill royal with another, more senior, ill royal.

Pressed post too soon.
I meant to add, why would it be preferable to have people speculating about the king and his cancer, rather than Kate and her surgery?
All they've achieved is people speculating about both anyway, which was pretty predictable.

If that’s the case they could have released a statement saying he had tested positive for Covid and no one would have batted an eye.

Maybe he needs to be elsewhere in the coming days week so that wouldn’t work.

I’m not a royalist but the thought of Kate being seriously ill is pretty fucking awful.

Surprised no one yet has mentioned the elephant in the room.
Maybe they've just found out Harry is about to drop another bombshell and they're all gathering around to put together a counterclaim that Harry is indeed the only person qualified to sit on the throne.
I wait with baited breath

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 14:41

There’s no chance William pulled out of doing a reading at his godfather’s memorial service just to avoid Andrew.

Especially when the seating plan was done in a way that he wouldn’t have been sat near him as the working royals (Camilla, Anne (plus her husband) and the duke and Duchess of Gloucester) were given seniority. Andrew would have been moved back a row had William been there as he was the only non-working royal in the row other than Marina Ogilvy (she was supporting her very frail mother, Princess Alexandra, who hasn’t ever officially retired despite her age and frailty)

If William and Charles didn’t want Andrew there he’d have another convenient case of Covid.

NarcissaMalfoysManicure · 27/02/2024 14:41

I don't think he's looked very well recently, at all.

I'm sad to say that I've been pretty disappointed in William not stepping up.
Sure, his wife is in recovery from a serious procedure.
His dad is newly diagnosed with cancer.
Both overwhelming in any family.
But this is not an 'ordinary' family.
Their overriding reason for being is to provide stability amongst the chaos.
I'm a royalist but they are failing badly.
I cannot imagine a scenario under our last monarch where she ever encouraged so much rumour and gossip.
It's not good optics for the future.
There's lots to be said of 'say nothing' but in todays world that vacuum will undoubtedly be filled.
Usually with lies and half truths.
I hope it's something innocuous.

Great post.

I do not understand why William cannot step up, I don't mean just this Memorial service, but in general.

The kids excuse is wearing a bit thin now to be honest. He takes 16-20 weeks off a year for all the school holidays as it is! And now he is needed with Charles and his diagnosis, and Kate not around, he's doing even less

As for Andrew and Sarah there, words fail me. Both puffed up and loving every minute

What are you on about? What would you like him to do?

ToffeeTalk · 27/02/2024 14:44

I wonder if Kate has said she wants out. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/02/2024 14:45

Maybe one of the Mids is ill?

Quizine · 27/02/2024 14:46

Well if Kate wants out, it's strange that she would do it like this, and have PW bail out of this committment with an hour to go. So I don't think so right at this minute anyway.

But then again who knows?

They have one i believe.

Sounds like they are getting ready for a big story to break. A new expose maybe?

I more meant that she might well have said she wanted out after Christmas, rather than this morning.

I think it more likely Louis has thumped a kid at school, started swearing, hit the fire alarm, stabbed a teacher and William has been called in to manage the cover up.

That said Dh's first reaction to 'personal reasons' was 'has William been shagging around again?'.

Thinking about it if Kate was seriously ill would Pippa be holidaying so publicly in St. Barts? If it was serious I would imagine she would be close to home at the moment?

User7825525 · 27/02/2024 12:17

Most likely one or more of the kids are sick at home and Kate isn't well enough yet to run after them.

Surely they have a nanny in place? I refuse to believe they don't.

ToffeeTalk · 27/02/2024 14:50

Not sure why Louis always has the finger pointed at him. Apparently George likes to remind his peers in the playground he will be king one day. Perhaps one of them thumped him rather than Louis thumping someone else.
