It was a memorial to his godfather at which he was supposed to give a reading, and there were people attending from all over the world. Not "just a church service". He skipped his funeral too. Looking a bit rude to say the least.

I think it’s harsh to say he “skipped” his funeral. He and Charles sent representatives to the funeral, just as QEII and Charles when PoW did for funerals.

He was clearly planning on being there today hence agreeing to the reading.

Safe to say Queen Anne Marie and the Greek royals will likely very well know exactly why he wasn’t there.

I think the palace PR shit show is going to culminate in some huge disaster like announcing a divorce or something. There's no way they can be this bad at putting out vague reports which they know will only lead to speculation. Many years ago Camilla pulled out of some event and they announced she had gastroenteritis. End of story. W&K also pulled out of an event years ago and they said it was due to illness from one of the kids. That sort of messaging is reasonable and leads to no more speculation. The PR experts must be aware of that, even if it's TMI like Charles prostate.

The current drip feeding of random info makes it seem like there must be far more chaos going on behind the scenes. The PR team probably can't get anyone to agree on one strategy and are just firefighting it the best they can without angering any of the Royals directly. It may be several layers like MH issues on top of the physical recovered of a surgery on top of years of various issues within the marriage (which virtually every marriage with 3 young kids will have). Kate might be fed up of everything, she clearly hid her health issues relatively well but maybe everyone has a breaking point. Maybe she's deciding whether a future in public scrutiny is worth the potential cost of her own life and her kid's wellbeing.

I think you're right that Kate has decided to peg it 😂

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 22:00

Yeah - that's just a day typo - sloppy though.

Which is quite ironic given how the Pr team at Buckingham Palace have been getting praise on this very thread for being much more slick than KP

Abitboring · 27/02/2024 22:01

How long is Kate post surgery and what are the chances she's still immobile and couldn't take one of the kids to A&E and give consent etc? She'd be out and about looking after kids in some capacity if this was an ordinary family. Normal dad's don't pull out of a part time job for these reasons.

I believe W is stuck on the toilet. They couldn't write 'due to illness' as too much speculation but they could have written 'due to viral infection' or something.

No everyone would think it was covid. They'd have to tell everyone it was the runs

It wouldn't be the first time; some of us remember the unrest during the foolishly named "War of the Waleses" and more when Charles appointed Bolland to push the case for Camilla

Trouble is there's no real strength at the top now, just an ailing old man who's judgement's already proved faulty time and again and who's chequered past perhaps hampers his ability to exercise authority

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 27/02/2024 22:03

I think “stuck on the toilet “ would have read quite well actually

Abitboring · 27/02/2024 22:04

@CarrotOfPeace they could have said food poisoning but then it would make the chef look bad?

headstone · 27/02/2024 22:06

They should have said William was suffering from exceptionally fast bowel movements.

Isthiswhatyouwanted · 27/02/2024 22:07

Just 'hitting a bit of wall' sounds about plausible to me. Maybe the job of doing a memorial service reading at an emotional time was a straw, that only become obvious that morning.

The short notice ties in with that.

Although 'the shits' and (in close second place) Child With An Appendix is making a MN royal thread a bit of a laugh, as opposed to something I want to chuck a brick at Grin

SamPM · 27/02/2024 22:08

Mumsnut · 27/02/2024 15:08

IMO, the most likely thing is that the Duke of Kent or Princess Alexandra is nearing the end, and both Charles and William have diverted to wherever they are.

Both of them were at the memorial....

Abitboring · 27/02/2024 22:09

Does anyone think we'll find out through the grapevine? Maybe Lady Collin Campbell will make a video.

Lady Colin Campbell will have no more factual info than anyone on this thread

I agree. I think the QE's judgment and decision making was pretty spot on most of the time. I imagine she was quietly formidable. Charles does not seem to be the same

Abitboring · 27/02/2024 22:11

@YetMoreNewBeginnings I think she will.

Bunnycat101 · 27/02/2024 22:11

The pr has been appalling. It basically just leads people to think something really dodgy is going down (ie if this shit is the best they’ve got, what’s the real story?). Kensington palace employ experienced professional comms people- it’s hard to believe they’re cocking this up so badly especially while Buckingham palace are then sticking by the rule book for a Charles (hospital visits, thank you to well wishers etc).

If it is just illnesses then surely the truth can’t be worse than the conspiracy theories doing the round the PoW put KM in hospital?

Couldn't they have put "mild indisposition" or some such?

That's the kind of terminology they'd have used for the late Her Maj.

Oh god, kids can be shits sometimes too. Double the trouble.

I like the idea of the runs. Makes him more relatable to us plebs.. The really should make a press statement if it is "the shits", gives him a common touch.. Sure who doesn't get diarrhea at some point🤷

If it was surgery for Crohn's or the likes then she probably wouldn't want to be far from her own loo/dealing with a stoma in a public bathroom.

pelargoniums · 27/02/2024 22:12

But maybe the bad PR is a deliberate move? Froth us all up to speculate about diarrhoea so we won’t figure out the real reason. Which is obviously that Diana’s been alive all along and just revealed herself

Amugwithoutahandle · 27/02/2024 22:14

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 27/02/2024 21:51

Their solution will be to wheel out the three kids in matching colours of navy or burgandy and everyone will forget everything while falling over themselves to say how Charlotte looks like QE etc etc

Until the next time.......

I’m afraid this is spot on. Why should three blameless children be exposed to the gawping and speculation of the uk and beyond for their entire lives? It’s madness! And exploitative!

I’m firmly in the Republican camp but don’t wish any of them ill as individual people. I wish them
good physical and mental health in fact.

Kate is one of the best of them as far as I am concerned. But why in 2024, it’s deemed acceptable to raise young George in a golden cage and give him very few choices about his career or future is beyond me!

In any other context this would be thought of as “cult-like” behaviour. Like being raised by the Amish or something where your life choices are limited and you come under extreme pressure to conform.

Let’s hope KM is changing her mind about it all!

Up the revolution! 😀

What on earth is the process of elimination that so many people keep arriving at 'it must be the shits then'?

I think it's a highly overstimulated process of elimination that leads to the shits
Grin

Wills will be interviewing for one of those Royal food tasters the kings had in the olden days to make sure their food wasn't poisoned!

Wednesday170 · 27/02/2024 22:15

Is it because of the death of Thomas Kingston? They were probably friends?

Quizine · 27/02/2024 22:15

Well all I can say now (having had a good laugh through the evening dipping in and out of the thread), is that I reckon the magnifying glasses will be out if Kate happens to reappear after the Easter bunny has been.

That's the next speculation, will she or won't she be back in action. Will she be OK. Does she look good. Is there any sign of the surgery. You can imagine what the speculation will be. I actually feel sorry for her as without a doubt the scrutiny of her will be awful.

Hard to think about facing the world again with everyone analysing your every move, look, apparel, did she gain or lose more weight, does she look drawn or tired, or fabulous. And that was the case even before she became ill.

So we wait....
