I'm not buying anything, I'm no royalist.

Also I can't imagine anything worse than having to schlepp to all the fancy lunches with diplomats, BAFTAs with people I don't know, getting dressed up to see premieres and stuff. Shaking hands with people you'll never see again however much of an arse they are.

I'd rather do my job and that's pulling weeds as a gardener.

Add to that the pressure and indignity of half the UK conjecturing that you’d shat yourself if you missed a memorial service …

The official announcement of Tom Kingston's sad passing has the wrong date / day of the week combination.
I wonder if the news was supposed to be released on Thursday but was brought forward to distract from William's personal reasons.

Or someone messed up and is in trouble 🤷🏻‍♀️

That just looks like someone wrote Thursday instead of Tuesday as the date is correct

ToffeeTalk · 27/02/2024 21:40

It's the 27th today.

I think it's highly unlikely to be child related.

Those kids are in line to the British throne- they have a whole team of staff to drive them to school, cook for them, look after their washing etc etc. All headed up by a boss super nanny.

There is no way that Prince William would have to drop his commitments to dash round and look after a child last-minute. There's probably a section of the household cavalry literally just for post-vomit-school-pickup.

It might be, if there had been the sort of accident that led to a broken limb that needed pinning, or a grumbling appendix that needed to be whipped out, then they'd want a parent to deal with consent, ideally in person. And if your DC was about to have a GA, wouldn't you want to be there? Or if you couldn't (not well yourself) then be sure the other parent was?

I think the palace PR shit show is going to culminate in some huge disaster like announcing a divorce or something. There's no way they can be this bad at putting out vague reports which they know will only lead to speculation. Many years ago Camilla pulled out of some event and they announced she had gastroenteritis. End of story. W&K also pulled out of an event years ago and they said it was due to illness from one of the kids. That sort of messaging is reasonable and leads to no more speculation. The PR experts must be aware of that, even if it's TMI like Charles prostate.

The current drip feeding of random info makes it seem like there must be far more chaos going on behind the scenes. The PR team probably can't get anyone to agree on one strategy and are just firefighting it the best they can without angering any of the Royals directly. It may be several layers like MH issues on top of the physical recovered of a surgery on top of years of various issues within the marriage (which virtually every marriage with 3 young kids will have). Kate might be fed up of everything, she clearly hid her health issues relatively well but maybe everyone has a breaking point. Maybe she's deciding whether a future in public scrutiny is worth the potential cost of her own life and her kid's wellbeing.

I think the serious accident etc re the children is a becoming a slightly tasteless type of conjecture.

I mean diarrhoea isn’t exactly tasteful , but at least it’s (mostly) in jest.

SamPM · 27/02/2024 21:44

It was a memorial to his godfather at which he was supposed to give a reading, and there were people attending from all over the world. Not "just a church service". He skipped his funeral too. Looking a bit rude to say the least.

Abitboring · 27/02/2024 21:45

Anyone else thinking William is showing Gen Z traits and just wasn't feeling it today?

Exactly, they can't even write the correct day on an official release.

Although some royals have actually pooped themselves to death.

King John and I think Henry V died of dysentery.

Also Henry VIII’s body exploded when they put it in his coffin, but that’s verging on a thread derail.

But the point is gastro-intestinal malaise is not snobbish and does not discriminate.

justasking111 · 27/02/2024 21:51

Buckingham palace handle the kings pr very well.

Kensington palace handle the POW pr less well. However, that could be down to their boss.

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 27/02/2024 21:51

Their solution will be to wheel out the three kids in matching colours of navy or burgandy and everyone will forget everything while falling over themselves to say how Charlotte looks like QE etc etc

Until the next time.......

Me too. Palace PR can't, surely, be so bad that they can't say "illness" if William has rhe shits...

'Personal reasons' is so poor and generates 100s if not 1000s of speculations - as this thread demonstrates.

The RF have had a lot going on over the last year. And I don't say that as a huge fan. Kate's op and recovery time is long and so could legitimately be a chronic condition like Crohns, or something more emotionally significant. And today's announcement could be William hitting a wall.

No - memorial services are usually much cheerier as they are about celebrating the life rather than mourning like a funeral.

They often take place quite a while after the funeral so that the initial grieving has abated.

Sorry if this is a detail

I haven’t read the whole thread and many have missed any other Greeks have on here explaining that memorials are big in the Greek Orthodox Church.

At 3, 9 & 40 days, then 3, 6 & 9 months and at a year. Then every year after that.

We still have memorials for my grandparents and one died in 1974. I go to all dh’s in-laws family’s memorials as well. My in-laws and their in-laws come to my dads and grandparents ones.

January and February I have one most Sunday’s.

I've posted throughout the thread, with a number of potential scenarios

I'm not wishing a specific misfortune on anyone (and neither a broken bone nor appendicitis is particularly serious)

I was posting to disagree with the poster I quoted about the idea that everything related to the DC could be dealt with by staff...

... or an elite subsection of the Household Division specially trained for dealing with post-vom schoolchildren (without recourse to Red Bull)

Yeah - that's just a day typo - sloppy though.

The timing is much more likely to do with trying not to distract from the memorial service until it was over but getting it out early enough so it wasn't leaked from another source.

If they'd announced it on Sunday/Monday then all eyes would have been on the Kents and everyone in the memorial service would have been giving condolences to the Kents which would have taken attention away from the family of Constantine.
