Sorry haven’t read all the updates but perhaps last minute illness? You wouldn’t go to an event with that maybe people feeling horrendously ill. Maybe they didn’t want to announce it with there already being so much interest in the families health conditions.

It's also being said "on the internet" (i.e. here) that his Asda delivery was late, he was in imminent danger of shitting himself, his mistress has gone into labour and the gerbil escaped under the floorboards, so given anyone can make anything up "on the internet" I think we're going to need a more reputable source than that 😄

One of the children was unwell or injured enough to require a doctor/hospital trip. Kate is unable to move from her sick bed. William is close enough to home/school to take them. Optics would not be good if they are sitting in A&E with the nanny/school nurse whilst daddy is on what could be seen as a jolly.
