Speaking of security, would George, Charlotte and Louis each have their own protection officer who sits in the classrooms with them all day at school?

I'm going to hazard a guess that they definitely have security with them during the school day but I imagine they are very discreet

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 17:01

@hopefulmummytobe78 This was a private event, not work!

TwangBoob · 27/02/2024 17:02

Britain's name would be absolute mud if thete was a security risk and we just pulled W out to leave the greek royals etc sat there like sitting ducks to be exploded 🤣

Everything he does in public is work. He is supposed to represent us, especially at things like this. But he bailed.

Pulling out less than an hour before especially as he had a role (reading) in the ceremony suggests it's something serious. This was his godfather.

@Kenthighst

eould you fancy messing yourself while doing a reading? Even as an ordinary person that would be beyond awful, let alone as the future king.

iwiporangi · 27/02/2024 16:44

The point, apart from it being nobody's business, is?

UK taxpayers might feel that it is their business given William has done only a few engagements since he waved and grinned from the church path on Christmas Day.

He may have excellent reasons, of course. But to say it’s “nobody’s business” is simplistic and reductive.

The (presumably) unintended consequences of William pulling out and Charles receiving treatment for cancer is that the various tabloids are full of headlines like this: https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1871210/prince-andrew-windsor-memorial-service-royal-family

Not good optics for the RF to be letting Andrew 'lead the family' into church.

Complete agree with this. Andrew being given space to prance around like this does suggest that there is something going on.

God, the drama from one family.

Someone said upthread they saw him driving off, not in the direction of the school. Of course anyone could say anything on the internet!

Why do we need to be represented? There isn't even a Greek monarchy anymore, they abolished it in 1973, so it was a memorial for William's dad's cousin and his godfather, more of a family occasion.

I think they genuinely don't care what he's done. They would rather have him hanging around than Harry. They have treated a pedophile better than someone who married outside of the usual pool of people.

EdithWeston · 27/02/2024 17:07

I think either

  • he has a minor illness (D&V, something else infectious, or something that's caused him to lose his voice). Because this is the obvious reason to have to scrub an engagement. But the "personal matter" choice of language doesn't fit that terribly well
  • so more likely is an urgent medical issue in someone else, by which I mean one of the DC, as anyone else and it could have waited an hour or so. But if one of them had either a nasty fracture (requiring pinning) or suspected appendicitis, then yes having a parent there is entirely understandable. As is saying nothing about it until comfortably after the procedure
Maireas · 27/02/2024 17:08

Andrew is not "prancing around".
The Greek RF invited him to a relative's memorial service. He attended. That is all.
I have absolutely no time for him at all, by the way, but the hyperbole on these threads is ridiculous.

DancingFerret · 27/02/2024 17:08

How true this is I don't know, so please don't shoot the messenger: It's being said on the internet William bailed because Andrew was also attending at the behest of KC; William felt it was a set-up and his stubborn streak took over. William's views about his Uncle Andrew have been a source of speculation for some time.

kingtamponthefurred · 27/02/2024 17:09

Well, I see the service went ahead and the world is still turning, so maybe William just isn't all that important.

Roussette · 27/02/2024 17:09

Errmmm yes he was prancing around! He led the whole pack of royals up the road, with Sarah at his side grinning

IwishIcouldfinishabook · 27/02/2024 17:10

Comedycook · 27/02/2024 16:16

I agree he probably doesn't want to be around Andrew.

But I doubt he'd be having a strop whilst his father is being treated for cancer.

Wasn't he driving him around to some event notvso long-ago? Dumped Kate in the back for it. IMO none of them think Andrew has done anything wrong at all. He's been hidden because the natives were restless.

No, he hasn't been king since 1973.

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 17:11

Prancing or not, grinning or not, intentionally leading the family or not, the image of PA amongst everyone else today doesn't look good.

I don't know what the answer is, but he is a problem for the RF.

If this as true William wouldn't have been seen in a car with Andrew in the front seat, and Andrew probably wouldn't have been allowed to attend. If they didn't like him, Andrew wouldn't be prominent anymore

This actually sounds like the most plausible explanation so far.

Let's face it, it could be one of hundreds of things. I'm not a royalist, so beyond a vague wish that everyone's well and healthy, I'm not really bothered either Grin

Right. "Prancing". Ok.
It looked to me like he was walking, but I will check film footage. I've never seen anyone prancing at a memorial service before.

Absolutely 😅. Bonkers theory! Hardly 'soft power 101' to bugger off and let everyone else get blown up!

If that's the case that's appalling for all sorts of reasons.
He managed to be in Andrew's company going into church on boxing day
And surely...being heir to the throne means being diplomatic at occasions like this.
(I think Andrew should've gone in without fanfare and his divorced for 30 years ex should not have been there at all)
