I think William might be just saying No to things he doesn't want to do. Having a rebellion of his own. I can't imagine he wants to be around Andrew,

PW would have known long before an hour of the start of the service that A would be there. Why wait until the last minute to pull out then?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/02/2024 16:19

It is pretty standard protocol to protect the line of succession. All the others could be considered expendable at the point of a minor alert

There were three people in direct line of succession there, Andrew Anne and Beatrice. I doubt they'd be considered expendable.

Zyq · 27/02/2024 16:19

The tone of the reporting is very much along the lines of "Nothing to worry about, folks". I'd be inclined to accept that and not bother speculating.

i know KC is trying to be more open and honest, but I feel that the RF has definitely lost its magic and mystique since the Queen died
Less is sometimes more: they’ve let us in so much that we now expect more information
Can never forget the late Queen’s speech during COVID: short but so powerful

I think that the powerful message was sent during Prince Philip's funeral when the Queen sat on her own and followed the rules on social distancing, just like so many in the country had to do, and whether you're royalist or not, it was heartbreaking. An elderly woman, mourning her partner of over seventy years, showing dignity when the government failed to lead.

But Camilla is Queen as she was at the service. So it obviously isn't a security threat.
It's also been said numerous times KC is undergoing chemo which is why he was seen leaving Windsor.

Ah well, it's probably something about nothing anyway. But the speculation is (dare I say it) somewhat amusing and distracting. Nature abhors a vacuum.

I am the biggest republican around but massive respect to her for that. She was offered a dispensation from the rules by Boris and refused.

Interesting theories but I can't see Kate ever divorcing and sacking off the idea of being the queen. Its basically all she's ever dreamt about and I can't see her leaving even if she was fully aware Willy was dipping little Willy elsewhere

I would have agreed at one point Francis, it seemed to be her clear ambition, there was the Chile gap year thing, then it’s said that she hovered around his group of friends at St Andrews having changed her academic course to his, and she seemingly spent her twenties awaiting a proposal whilst he tested out various aristocrats on-and-off who were happy to spend time with him but had no desire to marry a prince. Hence the nasty, classist, chauvinistic nicknames for her from his dim mates.
But maybe the reality of being a senior royal has become genuinely unbearable. Women who marry in do not tend to have a good time of it with that family.
FWIW I’m definitely not a royalist but I think she has done a very good job and is an asset. As a republican I’d be glad if they lost her! But I don’t want her health to be poor, I hope that goes without saying. I think she’s suffering mentally but I truly hope I’m wrong and that the truth is that she’s walking.

The majority of adults in the top 20/30 of the line of succession were there

Theres no chance there was a security issue big enough to pull William out, but it was ok to send Camilla, the bulk of the British RF and numerous foreign royals.

hopefulmummytobe78 · 27/02/2024 16:17

Yet the RF continue to throw them to the wolves to distract from all their own troubles

😂😎it's all a conspiracy!
The entire media meet every morning and ask the RF what they need to print about Harry and Meghan that day....

Exactly, which is why whatever it was, it wasn't a security threat to or in Windsor.

Maireas · 27/02/2024 16:28

What an entertaining thread! The usual looney tin foil hat stuff, mind you, and some total bullshit, but still entertaining 😂

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 16:28

I'm still thinking it will be a George with broken arm type of explanation. (Assuming the update about Kate to be true).

I think you are being deliberately obtuse, Andrew is only 8th, Beatrice is 9th Anne is 12th.

They obviously didn’t want to create a major event around the security risk. So discretely whisking Charles and William away from the Windsor area would have been the quickest and simplest option whilst removing the key targets.

It was just speculation on my part, no need to over analyse my comment.

Yeah if Kate was seriously unwell, her family wouldn't be on holiday. This is a service for his godmother. There's really no reason to skip it

I also don't think Carole would be on holiday of there was going to be some sort of earth shattering announcement about the marriage either, for a start she seems very supportive, plus half the paps on earth would then start chasing her and Pippa.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/02/2024 16:29

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/02/2024 16:08

Because it was pretty unpleasant. You might not like the royals but they're human beings.

And 'why so serious?' is just another way of saying 'yeah, I was only joking.' The cop out of the bully.

Why so fawning? You’re right and I don’t give a shit about the RF as an institution, but there’s been wild and silly speculation in this thread of speculations. The mistress has been mentioned and I was playing along with that. Not your kind of joke? Move on.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 27/02/2024 16:30

Dunno.

It would solve a bit of a sweaty problem.

This thread is crazy!

What a huge fuss and speculation.

He's most likely got D&V (one or the other) that's not cleared up as expected.

Or one of the children's done something at school that needs a parent around.

Please stop the silly speculation.

Quizine · 27/02/2024 16:31

So it's a nothing story then.

Sod that, I now have to sort out the kitchen drawers of doom. I've no staff you see.

No! They would have whisked Camilla with KC & Wills if that was the case!

Totally agree with this @OrangesLemonsLimes
Kate is the jewel in the crown for the Monarchy
She rarely puts a foot wrong even if I think she is not terribly interesting. Without Kate in the RF, they will struggle massively
I too hope health wise she is OK.

Boring!

I want more gossip about who William has got upduffed seeing as he had to run off to attend the imminent birth.

I think the RF are being vv private at the moment about a few things & fair enough. When the time is right, we'll know what's going on.

I agree - yes, they are public figures, but they are entitled to have some privacy with regard to health, personal and family relationships etc.

The family has been under massive stress with Megxit and there doesn't seem to be any lessening of the spite from that pair. I'd hate to have to field personal problems publicly like this - it must take huge emotional toll.

Give them some space.
