Hello 👋, I thought it might be nice to have a thread we can discuss our cheesy feelings, food delights and general discourse about the royal family.

Didn't Michael Buble commit some sort of DV offenses? Did I imagine that? Why would you sit there an be serenaded by him if you are a feminist and mental health advocate? Why was he even invited?

His contract with ASDA ran out.

More importantly, I had the herb Philly on crackers yesterday...

My fave is the salmon Philly!

I'd like to do some frolicking. Then the S&B gang could start a thread saying how awful I look on the beach.

They wouldn’t because you’d be stood by me, quaffing. 🥂

Trust me, they’d get no other disparaging words out for anyone after dissing my coupon and lurks.

Word.

I’m sure you are perfect in every way anyway. So there. 😊

😂

@mrsmingleton The ASDA ad jingle writer would do a bettter re-write of My Way than the abomination Buble came up with. Actually, a Year 6 music class could.

So, I am wondering if these two are moving back to Canada and pretending what they said about Empire 2.0 didn't happen, while they try to inveigle their way into some sort of Commonwealth/diplomat/viceroy role. He's clearly trying to look like he's representing the Crown with his remarks to the First Nations people.

Maireas · 19/02/2024 16:44

Oh yes, the meeting with the First Nations group. Were they listening to the issues with a view to discussing a way forward? Solving problems?
H&M were given significant and important Commonwealth roles by the late Queen. The Commonwealth was very important to her because of her late father. They chose to walk away from that. Yet they now appear to be in some sort of quasi royal role by which they can hold meetings with minority groups in a Commonwealth country. Extraordinary.

He's meddling where he shouldn't be. I hope Trudeau reins him in. He should be making no promises in the name of the head of state who has not authorised him to so do, making noises about delivering results the actual elected government can't/won't fulfill. He needs to be reminded what a constitutional monarchy is about. He's also an utter hypocrite. Maybe he should concentrate on the Baka and what they have suffered at the hands of African Parks.

AutumnCrow · 19/02/2024 17:33

I have also been wondering what Harry's plans are for handling the continuing inclusion of the Israel (Israeli IDF) team and the inevitable matters arising - security, protests, potential diplomatic issues, etc? I've looked at the Invictus website a few times now, and the various news reports, but so far ... crickets.

I can't even find out if all the Participating Nations are currently represented at the training centre in Whistler, Canada. The US news channel CBC says that 'Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will host more than 500 competitors from 23 nations and is scheduled to take place Feb. 8 to 16, 2025' but only a few countries have been mentioned so far regarding the training.

Without getting into the politics of it here (there are dozens of threads on the 'Conflict in the Middle East' board which fulfill that function), I think the inclusion of Israel is going to need very, very careful handling. Simply not talking about it won't work. I'm not even sure that Harry has twigged yet that, rightly or wrongly, whether we like it or not, there could be ramifications that need to be risk assessed, planned for, and - more than likely - publicly addressed at some point by the right authorities.

AliceOlive · 19/02/2024 17:41

At the risk of coming across as if I’m paying attention to anything other than cheese, what did Harry say in his remarks to the first people?

I think Invictus is great and an example of exactly what he should be doing. Maybe the only example.

Maireas · 19/02/2024 17:43

Yes, the RF did a very good thing giving him that.

Maireas · 19/02/2024 17:46

How arrogant. Unbelievable.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/02/2024 17:53

Thanks @mrsmingleton Was hoping to link the Telegraph article, but it's gone behind a paywall. Basically, the FN chief wants to hand a ceremonial staff - that was given to them by QEII with the apparent promise to look after them -back to Harry at the IG25, in order to have the Crown continue in the discussions to fulfill that promise, which Harry describes as "truth & reconciliation". Harry has massively over-stepped in having this conversation, both with regard to the Crown (which represents a constitutional monarchy that has no political power in Canada) and the actual elected government of Justin Trudeau, who are the ones who should be stepping up to protect these citizens of Canada (they manage to protect every crack pot minority group going, but not the actual people who owned and looked after the land in the first place and who were displaced to build modern Canada).

AliceOlive · 19/02/2024 18:00

Good example of exactly what Harry should not be doing. Those are unfortunately more plentiful than the other kind.

wildernesssw · 19/02/2024 18:02

Over promise, under deliver is Harry's motto.

It's sad for those who believe in him. However, they must know they are not realising they are not dealing with someone who can deliver?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/02/2024 18:07

I imagine, just as with the Jamaican PM, there are some attempts being made through useful idiots to force the hand of the Crown or at least embarrass them in order to bring about change. WRT Jamaica, they need to get on with their referendum and stop blaming the UK for their constitutional monarchy status. WRT the First Nations in Canada, that is all on the successive Canadian governments who ignore them.

😧! Even for a casual observer like me, that really is a step too far on so many levels!

I think he should be sharing some of that ‘truth and reconciliation’ with the indigenous people of the Republic of the Congo.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/02/2024 18:11

Harry gets to play god and peacemaker with no skin in the game. He can't tie anyone, but he can create a diplomatic and political mess, that he can then just walk away from and leave the actual governing bodies to clean up. All a useful distraction from the African Parks mess that he is directly responsible for.

wildernesssw · 19/02/2024 18:12

Useful idiots seems about right...

Links to the Crown are entirely in the control of each country involved (including the UK!), and are democratically decided

mrsmingleton · 19/02/2024 18:17

He definitely has @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar !

team america help GIF

I saw this earlier today and it reminded me of Harry so would like to add it in here.

ArcaneWireless · 19/02/2024 18:35

Now is the hour.

Whether it be the government or the King.

It very clearly needs to be pointed out that Harry CHOSE not to be part of the working royal family and as such, no longer represents them (The RF) or the United Kingdom.

Should anyone want to discuss matters with him going forward, then that can be their prerogative.

They will then know that their conversation will be as meaningful - and have as much impact - as painting a smile on an egg.

mrsmingleton · 19/02/2024 18:48

You see this is the kind of thing that H and M do - they suggest and they allude ( just like in the Oprah interview)* *but they are able to deny in future that they actually said anything wrong. I imagine Harry will say he is talking from the point of the Invictus Games.
