Does anyone know where Prince William is?

TallerSally · 06/02/2024 17:44

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

1st position? second position?

(DD does ballet. I have 2 left feet...)

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 19:43

Both of my parents died of cancer and I was diagnosed with it about three years ago.

That's a shame , me too!

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 19:57

jeff my post was purely in response to the presumptuous one of mrsmingleton. I'm not claiming special status or trying to compete, especially since I'm completely fine. But you know, posters should think a bit ahead of posting something that stupid.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 20:07

Yes they should! , I imagine the demographic on here means there is something wrong with half of us !
Do you not find yourself feeling any sympathy at all with others? , I know I do and didn't find anything wrong with @mrsmingleton post at all .
I'm also now fine , and I don't bring up my health normally as it's totally irrelevant to posting on the rf topic , it is neither a shield from criticism or an excuse for my posts .

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 20:18

Both sinister and beguiling! @derxa , not sure about 1st or 2nd position @wildernesssw , I imagine it's about positioning derxa , firmly under the republican eye! 😱🤣

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 20:20

I feel sympathy with a lot of people jeff, is the short answer. But stuff is wrong for so many people on so many scores that I'm not sure that Charles should have particular sympathy, especially given his unrivalled access to the best medical treatment in the world.

To my mind the litmus test of character is how people behave when faced with a challenge and Charles simply seems incredibly petulant whenever faced with things which don't go his way, such as leaky pens. Here, he was apparently incredibly impatient to get to Sandringham and cross that he felt pressured to wait for Harry when he just wanted to get off to lounge around in luxury in the countryside at one of his vast estates. Despite not having seen Harry to speak to in person for so long, and Harry having bothered to make the long trip. He just seems to be absurdly spoiled and immature and not at all someone who should not be head of state.

derxa · 10/02/2024 20:27

I'm not sure that Charles should have particular sympathy, especially given his unrivalled access to the best medical treatment in the world. You don't seem to have any sympathy for him at all. And if we're discussing personal experience the I too lost my parents to cancer and have had two bouts of it myself. My treatment was excellent. Charles won't be getting some outlandish treatment unavailable to others. I have every sympathy with him.

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 20:28

*not at all someone who should not be head of state

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 20:30

I disagree entirely @goodbyestranger , the pens , well his mother had just died , he was thrust into a stressful position, as for the rest , well obviously you don't like him , that's your prerogative, however it seems to be clouding your entire argument ( in my view!) , I can understand to an extent, I dislike Harry intently, in fact apart from the first few paragraphs, what you have posted would apply to him in my view!
I try not to post about Harry using my dislike hat as that isn't fair ( however there seems a lot to critique without bringing my opinions into it!) , the problem with posting passionately about a subject you feel strongly about, is that you are bound to but heads with others who feel passionately about it from a different angle! , sadly there is no reconciling such opposing views! Which is a shame as you seem respectful enough to other posters to me! , maybe do what I do , announce you think he's a twat and then leave it ! ( yes I have said that about Harry before, often!🤣 ) .

derxa I haven't mentioned anything about cancer until mrsmingleton made a post directed at me, possibly others too but not you. There really is no need to turn this into a competition since her post wasn't aimed at you.

It's not true that private patients can't access special treatment. This will depend on the type of cancer and the particular patient but not all treatments are universally available on the NHS.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 20:35

In @mrsmingleton defence, you were not the only poster posting "nasty posts" , so I don't think it was aimed solely at you.

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 20:37

Thank you jeff, in a qualified way :)

My objection to Charles as head of state goes way his many personal deficiencies, but those do compound the problem.

Accepted. But I can only respond for myself.

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 20:51

I'm also not clear that pointing out that Charles had the alternative option of a chauffeur driven incredibly luxurious car to ferry him on the 100 mile journey before the rush hour started is 'nasty'. mrsmingleton appears to have a very low threshold for 'nastiness' - which is the light of her own very nasty post about cancer is somewhat surprising.

Of course it wouldn't have been one luxury car would it? It would have been the luxury car, a couple of Range Rovers full of RPOs, several marked police cars and likely a number of motorbike outriders to stop traffic across central and East London, all the way to the M11 - thereby bringing London to a standstill.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 21:06

To be fair I imagine for a man having swollen balls means the car journey would not be comfortable no how luxurious the car! 🤣

Mylovelygreendress · 10/02/2024 21:13

Charles also has severe back pain so presumably wanted to reach his destination as quickly as possible.

What post? I am confused. The one about saying I think it's horrible of people to criticise KC for taking a helicopter flight? How is that "presumptuous"?

Oh I see you thought it was about you personally? You weren't the only person to go on about Charles and helicopter trips so not sure why you are thinking this is aimed at you personally? Oh wait I have just seen you say that both your parents had cancer and you did too - why are you offended then? My father died of pancreatic cancer in 3 months after diagnosis at 62 but I'm still happy with KC using a helicopter. I don't get why any of this is "presumptuous". I don't think there is a family today that cancer hasn't touched.

I give a fuck on account of the environment as well as on account of Charles's hypocrisy. It was a journey of 100 miles only.

Edited

I am sorry to hear that and as I said there is likely not a family today that is not touched by cancer. It is obvious that we both feel differently about KC and his helicopter trips. We are both entitled to say that.

And there's your subsequent post. So if you run the two together you may see why the more elegant thing would have been to say oops apologies didn't think.

Joe Biden is the Head of State of the USA. Have you seen the way he gets about? Plus he seems to have totally lost the plot. Is that better?

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 21:47

Joe Biden is elected. And yes that is better.

I can't help you then. I'm embarrassed for the USA now
