Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

I'm embarrassed for the USA now

derxa I lived in the US when I was younger so had some sort of connection. Not sure if you've ever lived there for any length of time or are American. Trump: embarrassing. Biden not so much.

You are entitled to your view. That's what this place is all about.

Joe Biden is the Head of State of the USA. Have you seen the way he gets about? Plus he seems to have totally lost the plot. Is that better?

The Uk is just over 93,000 square miles.

We are 40 times smaller than the US in terms of square miles.

Why are the comparrisons always made to the US?

It is not like for like.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 23:22

@goodbyestranger , you are now being fairly aggressive, @mrsmingleton , was gracious and explained, @derxa is entitled to her opinion, I thought you were balanced and fair to poster's despite the fact I don't agree with your opinion, however, I stand by my fellow posters and dislike personal attacks.

goodbyestranger · 10/02/2024 23:53

jeff no idea why I was deleted for saying that posters should not be offensive in expressing their views and maybe give some thought as to whether their post is likely to cause upset but there you go.

I’m really not going to engage with you as to whether a third poster is gracious or not. If only because our understanding of the term is evidently miles apart.

@goodbyestranger
"Charles simply seems incredibly petulant whenever faced with things which don't go his way, such as leaky pens. Here, he was apparently incredibly impatient to get to Sandringham and cross that he felt pressured to wait for Harry "
I understand the helicopter was already waiting at BP, ready to take off. Personally, I am fine with him using a helicopter. This would have been planned in advance.
I sympathised with the leaky pen situation. Very few people these days use fountain pens. It was a stressful situation. I was concerned that there did not seem to be anywhere to place the pen (ie not enough room on the table being used).

cyclamenqueen · 11/02/2024 00:38

To be fair the journey to Sandringham is not great, it may only be 100 miles but even in the middle of the night with no traffic you would be very lucky to do it in less than 2.5 hours. On weekday afternoon it can easily be 3.5 to 4hrsI know , I used to do it weekly. There are no motorways , not a lot of dual carriageway and one slow load and you’ve had it. I don’t blame him using a helicopter.

also bear in mind he may have continence issues which would make long car journeys difficult.

I agree all thise saying “it’s only 100 miles” have obviously never tried to get to some of the more extreme or rural parts of the country 😆

mrsmingleton · 11/02/2024 10:16

That part of the country is a pain to get to. We have family in mid East Anglia and it takes forever to get to. I have an American friend who having looked at a map asked if we could go to Cornwall for the day from the SE of England. I had to explain about the roads to her.

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 10:32

The reason I'm qualified to say it's only 100 miles is because for over forty years as an adult I lived in rural Devon in a village which was only accessible by tiny lanes not created for motor vehicles. I also know the drive from Central London/ the Mall to Norfolk having done it often myself. It's perfectly doable perfectly comfortably at that time on a Tuesday afternoon. Thursday and esp Friday slightly more stressful. No excuse for a helicopter.

Also, more unfounded assumptions.

Nishky32 · 11/02/2024 10:38

@cyclamenqueen makes a good point about the continence issues, we had a holiday where half of us went on the train and the other half by car, my dad could not cope with 3 hours in a car. This was at the very start of his illness.

I’m not making assumptions about you personally I didn’t even realise you personally had said that. I have seen it said several times. Stop taking everything as a persona attack. Also, I don’t think that a car journey of 2.5 hours minimum at 75 years of age having had a prostate treatment and cancer therapy would be my choice if there was an alternative. Cut the guy some slack

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 11:08

smilesy there seems to be a tactic among some posters where a post is obviously addressing something some people in particular have said before: one of the people obviously addressed responds and then they’re told ‘not to take everything personally’, by way of attempting to put them down.

I said last night in terms the journey was only 100 miles. It’s therefore absolutely appropriate that I consider myself included in the people to whom the post I quoted was addressed.

It couldn’t be a clearer situation - I used the exact words.

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 11:10

Also no I won’t cut Charles slack. He doesn’t merit slack imo.

I can only state again that I didn’t realise you were one of the people who said this and it wasn’t aimed at you personally. I disagree that a journey of 2.5 hours on a good day is “easy” if you are in discomfort. As for your other comment, you may not like Charles but in a human level surely you can understand why he wants to be comfortable. To say he doesn’t deserve to be cut any slack is somewhat harsh

jeffgoldblum · 11/02/2024 11:48

Accepted etiquette on mn is as thus ,
Unless a poster quotes you , tags you , or mentions your name , they are not referring to you directly, mentioning a couple of words that might be in a post , does not qualify as replying to you directly and is in fact a general statement to all.

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 11:48

It was a journey of 100 miles only

That was my first post referencing the distance smilesy, I'm afraid that I can't help if you didn't read it but it really is very, very clear and in fact couldn't be clearer.

jeffgoldblum · 11/02/2024 11:51

Please read my post for clarification, unless they are referring to you directly the posts are not for you! , that was probably why you had posts deleted, it would be classed as a personal attack, launching at someone who hasn't addressed you.

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 11:52

jeff that's a little disingenuous when a post uses the same words as the poster who responds to the criticism. It's simply a ruse to shut down legitimate responses.

But anyhow, my point is made There's no need to get bogged down.

goodbyestranger · 11/02/2024 11:53

jeff thanks but maybe move on - seriously.

It doesn't matter whether you find it disingenuous! Those are mn guidelines!
See I am quoting you therefore I'm addressing you directly!

Daisyislazy · 11/02/2024 12:01

Jeez how did we get from where's William to Charles and his swollen balls and his helicopter ?
