Well that's knocked Kate Garraway off the front page

Aquarius1234 · 05/02/2024 22:19

William is always stepping back from duties and he's the most private..
Good luck with that .. 🙄

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/02/2024 22:19

I can promise you, @Veggie1961 and @SweetBirdsong that's Roussette's real - she's been on MN for years, and though we don't always agree on everything I've always though she talks sensibly

She doesn't insult other posters either, which on here can be quite refreshing

Glitterblue · 05/02/2024 22:20

@Sidebeforeself they’re saying that their granny had it in her 80s and lived until she was 100 not to be insensitive but because someone said the outlook wasn’t great at his age. They were just meaning that age isn’t necessarily a factor.

The rumour (and it is nothing more than a rumour) is that she had multiple myeloma.

I worked in haematology for 16years. I remember seeing on TV that short film of her last public engagement at a hospice and thinking her particular kind of frailty which came on quite quickly at the end, and just her general look , reminded me of haematology patients.

Actually, cancer is often a less aggressive form in older people and advances slower because their cells are not dividing as rapidly.

That is what one of my friends has always taught me, so I hope they have caught it early and that the treatment is successful.

If it is prostate cancer that has spread, it’s most likely to his bones.

What part of ‘it isn’t prostate cancer’ did you not quite get.

SweetBirdsong · 05/02/2024 21:28

It's true. The Royal Family DO bring in way more than they cost.

A quick google search will tell you.

While the average annual cost for UK taxpayers in royal upkeep comes to around £500m a year, Brand Finance estimates the monarchy's brand contributes £2.5bn to the British economy in the same timeframe.

It's a well documented fact that RF haters can't bear to admit is true. It is NOT 'a myth.' 🙄 The haters just want to believe that.

.

Edited

The cost is hard to calculate though
For example the convoys hold up the traffic in Central London-when the children were at school in Battersea-that was several times a week for me. Times the thousands of people they held up-many of whom are self employed. So the plumber loses an hour a week for the royal family-so bills go up- how is that calculated ?

If that's what's waiting in heaven, I'm not going.

Imagine getting to the top and she bursts out with 🎵 Surprise Surprise 🎵 .I'd rather not 😂.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/02/2024 22:35

I see someone posted on the other thread that Edward's taking "a short break from public duties" too

Apparently it's only supposed to be for eight days, but that's another one out of action

CormorantStrikesBack · 05/02/2024 22:37

DG1749 · 05/02/2024 19:37

What others? Kate's signed off til Easter, Harry and Meghan have been banished from the kingdom, Andrew's in disgrace. That leaves erm: Anne and Edward - the royals are a bit thin on the ground these days.

Anne, Edward, Sophie. Easter is like next month or possibly mid April, Kate will be back soon.

poor william and kate

Why? They know the score and have been groomed for this since (his) birth.

We've had an extremely long reign with Queen Elizabeth. Doesn't mean it will continue like that. Charles is in his 70's anyway, so quite old in all respects.

I really wish him well. And Camilla too.

donteatthedaisies0 · 05/02/2024 22:40

On another note the country really won't fall apart 'cos royals aren't seen , remember when lockdown was being lifted . No one gave a second thought to royals and they weren't even missed really . We will survive 😁.

FargoLargo · 05/02/2024 22:40

Speculating, if they’ve found it quickly then the prognosis could be quite positive.

MaggieFS · 05/02/2024 22:48

To be clear, from what I can see Prince Edward is not on an official break. He has an eight day gap in his diary after a long haul trip. Such a gap would have been scheduled ages ago, and not be the result of any sort of health scare.

Which is why, I assume, it's only the tabloids who have highlighted the gap and are making it a story by piggy backing on the news of the King and PoW's hospital stays. Otherwise it wouldn't be a story?

It’s horrible. My DH (hopefully) isn’t at the end but is unrecognisable from the man he was a year ago.

Thin, hunched, grey and bruised.

I feel sorry for Pike walking up the staircase and no one cares because everyone is speculating about a cancer but don’t know what part of the body it affects never mind what stage it is.

Right.

So far we have an Octopus, an Alpaca, and now a Pike.

All we need now is an Ark.

Exactly - how precisely can this be calculated? And say if all the crown lands were handed over and could be used to generate money as well as be open as heritage sites - has that been calculated?

They've even said Harry is turning up, it must be bad

Interesting that my suggestion that @Roussette is not a real person has been deleted! I said absolutely nothing rude or disrespectful 🤔

I don’t think so, I think it’s normal for a son to visit his dad with a cancer diagnosis. Doesn’t mean anything bad or the end is near

I think the poster is saying that there's a human side to this, and it must be hard on the son & daughter in law right now

Considering he hasn’t visited his father for any other reason for years ,it really must be.

Agree however he didn’t manage the short flight from London to Aberdeen to visit the late Queen at Balmoral even though he claimed they had a special relationship.
