Indifference to PoW?

FaiIureToLunch · 28/01/2024 08:51

I find it strange that there’s no real interest or concern from the public about POW being in hospital. Nobody seems to be that bothered. If you compare it to the circus if Diana had been in the same situation….. I just find it odd. I always thought she was relatively popular because we’re constantly told she is but actually…. Tumbleweed.

I know it’s her own business etc but it just feels quite odd that somebody can disappear and there is no interest in why. I don’t really know or care what’s happened or why, but the silence is really intriguing. It reminds me of when the brexit referendum happened and I had no idea that there was such strong feeling about the EU…. I had no idea that there was such apathy about the PoW until now. It’s been a real eye opener for me.

I reckon the next generation or two, the monarchy will be gone.

And there will be people who do not give a jot, either.

@goodbyestranger you seem awfully invested in Camilla.

What has domestic violence in the army got to do with her? How do you know she’s not very bright?

Are you a Diana fan, upset that Camilla seems to have rehabilitated herself?

she still looks like fun to have a gin with to me

I doubt there ever will be for any future royal women. Diana was one of a kind, like Marilyn Monroe or Elvis, you can’t really replicate it.

I agree. Diana rocked the best far too much, was far too popular and wouldn't just sit back and take Charles having a mistress. Her death really rocked the RF. Then Meghan came along and also rocked the boat and enabled Harry to start complaining about his lit, again rocking the boat. I think Kate is the perfect Royal wife. No real personality apart from wife and mum, she will never complain about the Royals or rock the boat. I would absolutely be shocked if she divorced William, even if he openly shagged every one of his mates wives right in front of her. Any other Royal wife ( the husbands seem to be able to get away with whatever they like) will have to ve a Kate tribute act if they want to marry into the family if they can help it.

I thought this was going to be about prisoners of war.

I thought this was going to be about prisoners of war.

What despite it being in the RF section. Really 🙄

IsthisthereallifeIsthisjustfantasy · 28/01/2024 20:49

@Kimmeridge I just saw it in the "trending" box, so yep. Dear me, everyone is very cantankerous today.

loobylou10 · 28/01/2024 18:15

@Alltheprettyseahorses don't be so ridiculous, I'm actually embarrassed for you. How do you know she hasn't had a stream of visitors? Never heard of back entrances, blacked out windows etc?

Get a grip. Why on earth would visitors feel the need to hide like it's something to be ashamed of instead of a normal part of inpatient life? It would actually be positive PR to be able to report her husband, kids, parents, siblings, friends etc went to see her.

Galatine · 28/01/2024 21:01

There was a front page story that Queen Camilla had visited King Charles in Hospital.
Royal shocker!! "Wife Visits Husband in Hospital".

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 21:04

ElevenSeven in all my years on MN I have never previously posted about Camilla, so I think any idea that I'm 'awfully invested' can bite the dust right now.

I certainly wouldn't call myself a Diana fan either, although at the time of her death I did feel huge sympathy for Mohammed Al-Fayed, who was at least a decent man.

I do however abhor the fakery of the rf. The whole edifice is built on sand.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 21:10

What has domestic violence in the army got to do with her?

It was an aside. Purely to illustrate how little these people do or care when they could actually make a difference.

How do you know she’s not very bright?.

Well I'm making a punchy guess from her qualifications or lack of: one O Level from Queen's Gate.

anotherside · 28/01/2024 21:22

The vast majority of people don’t care that much about a stranger, and that also includes the vast majority of royalists. And besides she seems just a normal woman who happened to marry into a very famous and powerful family. But I guess your wider point stands, the public in the 70s was less in thrall to the monarchy than it was at the turn of the century. And the 90s less than the 70s and today less than the 90s. It may well survive many more decades as an institution but very few people these days buy into the idea that the royals are somehow special individuals. Catherine is just a normal middle aged woman and Charles is just an opinionated grumpy old man etc.

Yet you know her GCSE’s….sorry, O levels, and where she got them….

DontTouchMyDog · 28/01/2024 21:34

I don't care any more than I do for anyone else I don't know. To be honest, I probably care more about people who don't have financial security when they are sick, and staff to help them when they get home.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 28/01/2024 21:39

I rate this thread D for delusional and M for misinformed.

I was at the supermarket earlier and the POW and her health scare was on four different magazine covers. She’s also the cover of People this week. Those magazines are reporting that William has been to see her every day.

Your tiny social media bubble isn’t the world. Your opinions aren’t facts. Just as general reminder to those so blinded by bias that they can’t see straight.

Dabralor · 28/01/2024 21:54

I agree op, I think it's weird there isn't more sensationalist crap in the press.
It's not that the press are being nice and respectful. I think it's all embargoed for some reason and we will probs never know why.

Whatever it is I hope kate is recovering in peace and back home with her kiddoes soon.

Yet you know her GCSE’s….sorry, O levels, and where she got them….

GCSEs hadn't been invented at that stage. They were called O Levels. I know Camilla is the antithesis of academic so I checked on Wiki to make sure I didn't get anyone screeching that I had my facts wrong. Which Wiki confirmed I hadn't. A two second check on Wiki does not make me 'awfully invested'.

loobylou10 · 28/01/2024 22:06

@Alltheprettyseahorses me get a grip! Ha ha ha ha

Ok… i don’t care she’s not academic.

She still seems fun.

Roussette · 28/01/2024 22:12

The clever media portrayal of Camilla to rehabilitate her in the public's eyes has done it's job quite obviously

We do not have a clue what she is like. Not a clue. She could be lovely, she could be quite the opposite.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 22:20

Not academic - by which I really meant thick - is less important than the fact that she evidently couldn't give a shit about inflicting hurt on others over a period of many years. They're all selfish to the core.

Basically not someone worth any respect. However much gin she knocks back.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 22:23

Rousette her crowd were all big and noisy in Gloucestershire in the 80s so actually quite a few people with connections there do know what that lot were like.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 22:26

Lots of them were in the Blues and Royals. It mystifies me that people on MN always say no-one can know these people. I mean, they're just out there.

Who buys and reads magazines these days? Old people.
