Indifference to PoW?

FaiIureToLunch · 28/01/2024 08:51

I find it strange that there’s no real interest or concern from the public about POW being in hospital. Nobody seems to be that bothered. If you compare it to the circus if Diana had been in the same situation….. I just find it odd. I always thought she was relatively popular because we’re constantly told she is but actually…. Tumbleweed.

I know it’s her own business etc but it just feels quite odd that somebody can disappear and there is no interest in why. I don’t really know or care what’s happened or why, but the silence is really intriguing. It reminds me of when the brexit referendum happened and I had no idea that there was such strong feeling about the EU…. I had no idea that there was such apathy about the PoW until now. It’s been a real eye opener for me.

I reckon the next generation or two, the monarchy will be gone.

Are you under a rock? Seems like I see stuff about it all the time, all bs because no one knows what is really going on. Nor should we. I have certainly seen more about it than I want to.

CurlewKate · 28/01/2024 18:41

As I said on another thread, a little more openness might have protected the children from their little friends sharing internet speculation.

Kittythecutest · 28/01/2024 18:45

I don’t think there has been silence - when the news broke it was all over the tabloids and the television, there have been multiple threads on here and Reddit about it and I assume on other chat forums that I don’t look at.

Also, flowers being left? She hasn’t died that would surely be extremely morbid!

The children will get their information from their father not from official press releases.

No @MrsDanversGlidesAgain just an ordinary woman who is dismayed about the tone of some of the posts .

Thanks for giving me a laugh

CurlewKate · 28/01/2024 18:56

@derxa obviously they will. But their little friends will no doubt be quick to point out the internet speculation. And with no official information it's bound to worry them.

Do you know much about children? They're not really interested in their friends' parents.

Leafbuds · 28/01/2024 19:01

they probably could be if their parents encourage them to find out whatever gossip they can, or if they've heard rumours about all kinds of random things, and want to know if they're true

Are you pleased to find that there's apathy about the Princess of Wales?

LittleGlowingOblong · 28/01/2024 19:07

It’s not indifference. The public are taking their lead from the media - who know something very serious is afoot and staying schtum, for now.

I also think that social media may be being censored behind the scenes - hashtags suppressed, that sort of thing. Perhaps I’m being too speculative.

Also: cost of living crisis. It’s clearly a long haul health issue and people are skint after Christmas.

Did you hear what William said on that programme about the Princes and the Press? I expect he would think the same way about internet speculation, and tell his children.

CurlewKate · 28/01/2024 19:13

@derxa "Do you know much about children? They're not really interested in their friends' parents."

Seriously? You don't think that 11/12 year olds wouldbe interested in what's happening to the famous mother of a peer? And that some of their parents wouldn't dig?

CurlewKate · 28/01/2024 19:14

@upinaballoon "I expect he would think the same way about internet speculation, and tell his children."

I'm sure he does. Have you ever been in a school playground?

Theoldcuriosityshop · 28/01/2024 19:23

I bet Camilla's popped in to see her, seeing they're in the same hospital. Hopefully with a bottle of something hidden in her bag or cake.

Given the schools they attend I doubt their peers are ‘that’ overly bothered by it in all honesty. Their friends parents might have a passing interest (as do I truth be told but I’m self aware enough to know I’m not entitled to know anything) but they’re not likely to be your average person either and they’ll be well used to people in their social circles being conscious of media privacy. The Wales’ are probably pretty dull to them by most measures.

Some posters on these threads must have sore fingers bashing out such vitriol towards an unwell woman . A mother of 3 young DC , a wife , daughter, sister, aunt , niece , cousin , friend .
And this is supposed to be a supportive parenting forum .

Wholeheartedly agree ! Some unnecessarily nasty comments ,
not big , not clever just marking you as twats

Dunno, seems pretty spot on to me.

Does it bother you people think she’s fun?

mumumumumummm · 28/01/2024 19:32

My DC have classmates and friends with very famous parents who are often splashed across the tabloids with all sorts of conjecture about their private lives. We parents close ranks. Their kids are our kids friends. They’re just children to us and they don’t deserve all the nonsense. We don’t ask and what we do know, we don’t share. I’m not aware of a single leak of anything, even when we know the answers to the questions the tabloids were asking. Also, many of the kids have high profile parents who would not encourage digging around. I imagine it’s the same for the royal DC at school.

asrarpolar · 28/01/2024 19:46

Her popularity is passive. People like her and think she seems decent, but there is not the level of emotional investment there was with Diana.

I doubt there ever will be for any future royal women. Diana was one of a kind, like Marilyn Monroe or Elvis, you can’t really replicate it.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 19:50

Does it bother you people think she’s fun?

It slightly narks me that people insist on inventing a Jolly Hockey Sticks personality for her, to sanitise the fact that she's a not at all bright, utterly stereotypical 1970s/80s army wife but where both sides played away causing huge amounts of very real misery to third parties, including Diana.

It's just more fakery from the rf.

Her first husband was promoted way above his natural rank as a pay off for Camilla being fully available for Charles. Everyone in the army at the time (which I was towards the latter years of her first marriage, as another wife) knew it. It was a standing joke, though not that funny, in retrospect.

The rf are seriously morally bankrupt. Hopefully they'll be gone sooner rather than later.

With apologies to army wives from that era and indeed now who aren't like Camilla.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 20:02

Also, as an aside, I do wonder why she - as an ex army wife - doesn't make more of a thing in her assigned 'passion', domestic violence, of the high levels of the issue in the armed forces. She'll know very well that even among officer ranks in posh regiments it's far more widespread even than in the general population. But no, that might upset her social applecart. What happens in the army - especially among officers in posh regiments - is that the wife is ostracised by other wives in case association with a battered wife taints their own husband's career. Nice. Much better for Camilla to concentrate on people not like her however, to provide distance.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 20:07

Literally no moral leadership ever, from any of this bunch. A bit of hand wringing here and there but skin deep, always.
