Richard Osman has spoken about books being optioned - it was really interesting. He said it’s very common for books to be optioned by production companies, as they want to make sure they have a large body of available works on their slates for possible future production (essentially, it’s a story bank). But, in Richard’s estimate, only 1% of those options will ever actually end up being produced.

This is true. Getting optioned is a far way off from actually seeing your work on the screen. Having worked with many authors, the average writer is a relatively poorly paid job. Even ones who might have a few reasonably successful novels under their belt. Production companies buying the options is usually a dream come true from a creative validation pov. It means your ideas and creation have the potential to entertain a mass audience. The actual financial details of an option is a just a regular sum (not huge) that's paid almost like a retainer to prevent you from selling the story to someone else. It's never as high as the millions reported in the media and it's spread over such a long time period that it's comparable to an average salary, often less. However writers welcome it as a creative accolade and a predictable stream of revenue.

The production companies write off the cost of all those options as the potential of having one project that takes off. There are usually tons of ideas in development but most never make it past various stages of testing. But one blockbuster viral success can easily recoup the costs of 99 other options that never end up getting made. It's just the way the entertainment industry works.

Yeah I don’t think gifs have anything to do with being an adult. They are just stupid, imo

Not Endgame but Ingrid Seward has a new book out in which she states that the late DofE referred to Meghan as the DoW and the late Queen wasn’t happy that Meghan wore white for her wedding.

Thanks for this - the royal books are coming out thick and fast! I managed to read the DM extract last night, but now it’s behind a paywall. Sounds interesting.

The D of E knew both Wallis and Meghan, so if that was his observation, who is anyone who didn’t/don’t know them to question his informed opinion? An opinion Seward is clear the Queen didn’t share, she was very keen on MM - at the start, anyway.

WRT the white dress, the late Queen’s an old school opinion, but hardly an outlandish one, and nobody stopped MM wearing exactly what she wanted, so I don’t see any issue with the Queen having had an opinion. It’s not as if MM respected the Queen’s values or felt bound by them, absolutely no harm to MM at all. She could have made quite the statement with a coloured dress - showing the world that modern royal brides can acknowledge that they are grown ups with past relationships and don’t need to pretend to be ingenue virgins.

Interesting to read (according to the author) how close Harry was to his dad, whereas it was William who was the mummy’s boy. That narrative has certainly changed.

Is this new book by Ingrid Sewell called ‘My mother and I’ - as I’ve read. I thought they may have misprinted the title, or is this another authorised biography?

A sad day for those of us who support Charles, but of course nothing compared to what his nearest and dearest are going through. I do hope that his doctors have caught this cancer early, and that his underlying fitness helps him fight the disease successfully. He and Camilla have been shaping up beautifully as king and queen, and I want to remain a Carolean for many years to come.

I see Omid is back being the Sussex spokesperson.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/02/2024 03:28

I totally agree with you op. I feel sorry for KC, he’s been preparing for this role all his life. Realistically he’s at an age, where he should be retired but has a difficult diagnosis to contend with. Hopefully it will be the type of cancer, which only needs surgery rather than radiotherapy or chemo.

Why not quietly speak to him and privately travel to see him?

Utter cringe, as my DDs would say.

They've said a course of regular treatments, during which time he will not interact with the public, but will still be able to carry out his constitutional roles.

Which suggests chemo to me - as it makes you critically vulnerable to covid, and therefore you're advised to isolate (shield) - either as complete treatment, or possibly treatment ahead of surgery.

Difficult to say, without knowing what sort of cancer it is - as it was spotted during treatment for benign prostate enlargement, then it's likely to be in the areas they were working so genital/urinary (or possibly other lower pelvis eg bowel), skin, or one of the blood cancers

I’m not on twitter, but just had a Google of his twitter feed, and as far as I can tell, he never stopped being their spokesperson/advocate/super fan, or tweeting snidely about Catherine/William/the kids. That he sat there in so many interviews for Endgame claiming he’s not and that he’s neutral is deranged.

I saw a few pics he’s published on instagram lately, including his Christmas one, where he’s posing grabbing his crotch. Why? I don’t know of any other writers who want to be taken seriously, as he clearly does, who do that type of self promotion. It’s bloody weird that the Sussexes, with all their resources and connections, use him to speak for them.

Anyone else thinking that at some point in the future we are going to hear all about Harry's visit ,and how hurt he was that everyone was inexplicably cold to him?

Unfortunately yes. Also if Charles told Harry what is actually wrong it won’t be long before Scobie is making it known to the world.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 06/02/2024 07:37

I am going to be generous and hope against the odds that H realises what he’s lost these last few years and just leave them all alone after this. Which includes any plan to try to monetise this latest turn of events. His dad will no doubt continue to love him and forgive him for what he’s done. He should, that’s his son and Charles has to hold some accountability for the man Harry turned into. Hopefully Harry is mature enough to handle the situation without making it all about himself.

Camilla and William (and Catherine) - I think Harry needs to do a lot more than just turning up with fanfares from his spokes-lickspittle to win them over. And frankly, they have enough to do without having him demanding their time and brain space too. Charles has all the right people around him looking after him, I’m sure, nothing for Harry to worry about other than having a nice visit with his Pa.

I don’t think we have to worry about Harry making it all about himself.

Hardly more than 12 hours since Charles’ illness announced and media and posters are making it all about Harry. Job done.

Slumberlands · 06/02/2024 08:03

Meanwhile poor William is keeping quiet and trying to deal with things in his own way. I doubt he and Harry will see each other which is very sad.

Edited

😂Barely an hour had gone by before Omid Scobie, the mouthpiece, announced on Twitter PH intentions - job done.

And I thought he was worried about his security?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 06/02/2024 09:06

Quite @StormzyinaTCup . No need for a public announcement of his intentions, if it’s simply a private family visit. In fact, one would have thought publicly announcing you are flying into the hotbed country of racist hate where all are against you increases your security risk many times over. But no, there will be plenty of material to go at now to claim victimhood of one sort or another. The call is coming from inside the house, though.
