Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

Harry & Meghan's have been supporting the WellChild non-profit for years, it's a cause dear to them. Nominations are open until March 18th for this year's awards. From People (which is kind of funny, given that it's a UK charity):

"The U.K. charity works to support seriously ill children and their families, and the annual awards celebrate the inspirational qualities of the young people and those who care for them."

“The WellChild Awards is our chance to celebrate the extraordinary strength and spirit of young people with complex medical conditions from across the United Kingdom,” said the Duke of Sussex, 39, in a prerecorded clip. “It allows us to shine a spotlight on the resilience and positivity that they demonstrate every single day and to recognize the incredible support from the families, friends and professionals around them.”
“It is such a privilege to honor the immense courage and compassion of this incredible community. But to do that, we need you to take a moment and nominate the remarkable individuals who inspire you,” he continued and pointed at the camera.
“Your involvement makes a huge difference so please join us in celebrating the amazing superstars who will be recognized at the 2024 WellChild Awards,” said Prince Harry with a smile.
Nominations for the next WellChild Awards cycle close on March 18, and the ceremony has historically been held in September or October."

Don't they have a similar charity in the US? Surely it would make sense to work with and support a charity that is in the same country as where they actually live.

Especially for a couple who shine their lights on the environmental impact of such things as unnecessary air travel?

Well said. I think it's 16 years he has supported Well child and has turned up every year and spoken at their annual awards.
(Apart from one COVID online one and one when the queen died,)
For anyone interested there are all the years footage from Harry's first speech as patron to now, on YouTube. 15 of them!

Why should he give it up when it's obviously a Charity that is very dear to his heart
Some posters just want him to give up everything like this and Invictus. I hope he doesnt

Janiie · 29/02/2024 12:07

' should he give it up when it's obviously a Charity that is very dear to his heart'

He doesn’t live here anymore! It jars with his environmental preaching tbh. I mean fine do a video clip but I'd bet a tenner theyll show up with a myriad of flash outfits and cheesy smiles probably via a private jet.

I am sure the US has poorly dc that would love his support but he can't help hanging on to anything UK based despite how allegedly triggering London is..

MsForgetful · 29/02/2024 12:17

can you point me to where he says not to travel by air? remember its actually William who spearheads a large ( and expensive to run ) environmental project and it is one of his main focuses. He also travels to its events by air.

Roussette · 29/02/2024 12:20

Oh do change the tune Janiie. The charity concerned have on record said more than once how much they value his input so, not even for you, is he giving it up
Well done Harry

Your London comment is just weird!

Please don't patronise me, I'm sure you'd be very outraged if someone told you to 'change the record'.

He got the role as a working senior member of the RF, he isn’t that anymore so he should hand it over and develop his own interests and hobbies in the US. Reduce his massive carbon footprint.

Why is my London comment weird? He said it not me!

Roussette · 29/02/2024 12:30

No he shouldn't hand it over. Who would he hand it over to anyway?!!

They want him there, he wants to be there. Same with Invictus. You have said ad nauseum how he should give that up too.

Ain't happening thank goodness.

Outraged hahaha

'You have said ad nauseum how he should give that up too'

'Ad nauseam? 'Change the record'? Again, think how outraged you'd be if someone spoke to you like that.

He isn't a working member of the RF anymore. He should find his own interests and pursuits not one that was given to him because of his royal status. He left all that, remember?

MsForgetful · 29/02/2024 14:45

What if this is his interest, and was given to him because of that in the first place? Why on earth should he step down from a role that the charity benefits from and appreciates, and he has been connected to for years? He simply moved overseas and stepped down from his paid job, it doesn't mean he needs to sever ties with his home country or charities he has long standing connections to. The only reason for that it seems is because people not connected to the charity or to him, don't like him. It seems like a childish suggestion.

Roussette · 29/02/2024 14:47

You are very touchy today.
Ad nauseum isn't rude but I am more than happy for you to report my post. Get it deleted if ad nauseum offends you

WellChild and Invictus will be carried on with Harry, well done that man

Because he now lives in the US!! Why not shine his light and lens there and as I said cut down on his travel.

In fairness, Harry has spoken repeatedly about climate change and the need to reduce our carbon footprint. As a couple, H and M have made joint environmental statements and I think they were given an award about it at some point too? They have definitely been keen to make the environment something they regularly spoke out about (which is a good thing).

I don’t think the Wellchild Awards are a particularly great example, but more generally it does seem that Harry and Meghan don’t really practice what they preach on carbon footprint issues. I think if you’re not going to proactively reduce your carbon footprint - and that includes flying around unnecessarily- you shouldn’t really be lecturing others about their bad habits.

Anyway.

But going back to the subject of this thread, I think Meghan looks fantastic in her casual wear.

I find her formal stuff a bit hit and miss and I’ve never really fathomed why that’s the case. I do wonder if it’s because she still can’t really wear what she wants. Although they’re not working royals, there’s still an unspoken dress code for her. Looking back at her Suits days, her formal clothing was a lot more risqué and I think she wore it better. I wonder if it’s because she’s still struggling to meet expectations and not able to just pick clothes that she really wants?

MsForgetful · 29/02/2024 14:56

Because he now lives in the US!! Why not shine his light and lens there and as I said cut down on his travel.

Because he can do both.

Why don't the rest of the royals stay home too?

I don't think either of the brothers have said people should cut out all travel. Both their projects seem to focus on industry changes, technological advances, and getting better information to consumers- as in with Travelyst.

Janiie · 29/02/2024 15:06

'Why don't the rest of the royals stay home too?'

Because it's their job and role! It shouldn't be his anymore since he flounced.

WellChild awards are co-sponsored by GSK, and there are plenty of opportunities for the public to participate and help raise funds. The point of Harry's annual message is to invite nominations (as opposed to silly comments) - the website shows the relevant categories:

Child/Young Person Categories
Inspirational Child or Young Person – A child or young person between the ages of four and eighteen who has demonstrated exceptional resilience, determination, and achievement while facing significant challenges posed by complex medical needs. This includes but is not limited to instances where the nominee has overcome obstacles, surpassed expectations, or exhibited extraordinary courage and perseverance in their pursuits, thereby serving as an inspiration to others.
Inspirational Sibling – Having a child with a long-term complex medical condition can have a huge impact on the whole family; this category is for those siblings between the ages of six and eighteen who despite all the challenges have thrived – this is their time to shine.

Professional/Adult Categories
Nurse – A children’s nurse who goes the extra mile for children and young people with serious health needs.
Outstanding Professional – A professional who has worked above and beyond for children and young people living with serious health needs.
Inspirational Parent Carer – A parent carer who has gone above and beyond the care they provide for their child(ren) living with serious health needs and/or has contributed to improving support for families, or awareness of the challenges they face.

He left. He doesn't represent the rf anymore so he really should stop doing anything that was given to him because of that association.

I mean fine do a speech if the charity want him to but do it from the US. Less self promotion, less air travel, less posing and fewer outfit changes for the pair of them.

Not their job, their privileged position. They don't actually need to travel any more than anyone else who does charity work. Charity work isn't just for extra specially special people like the paid-for royals.

I know that conversations shift but I would grateful if we could keep this thread to mostly positive about Meghan. There are multiple Harry threads ranging from positive to negative - choose your pick. Ta!

Me too! I like this thread when it stays on topic.

Hear-hear.

The topic being: "a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports"

Despite the furore around them in some (mostly British) quarters, Harry and Meghan are continuing to support and bring the world's attention to some great causes (one of my fave's is Scotty's Little Soldiers, and of course Invictus)

They should be commended for keeping their focus on their philanthropic projects. I think they're doing a terrific job, seeing as... it's not even their job, they are doing it on a wholly volunteering basis, using money they have not sponged off the UK taxpayer....

Roussette · 29/02/2024 15:53
