Just curious. How many hours a week do you work? Any benefits/allowances at all?

I'm skimming that (reading would be a waste of valuable eyesight) and just grateful I'm not living in that head.

I can't blame William for taking time out for his family while he still can!

He and Kate and George have so much onerous responsibility ahead of them - for life!

Seriously? All any of them have to do is be dutiful nonentities.

Which is their point. The last time the RF had a charismatic member who dazzled everyone didn't work out that well.

Seriously? To whom are you addressing this question? All the republicans on here? And what is the snide inference?

FWIW I’ve always worked full or pt depending on age of dc and have never taken a penny in state benefits thanks apart from a university grant which we were given freely back then. I’m very grateful I had that opportunity too.

Care to explain why this is relevant to a discussion about Prince William’s working hours?

Yes, exactly. They’re required to be a charisma-free zone. Which is not exactly onerous.

I think you should get your post withdrawn ArcaneWireless

It’s a nasty question.

If you follow your argument through logically you are implying that someone on benefits through no fault of their own, eg someone with severe disabilities, has no right to comment on whether the RF are giving us value for money and working hard enough?

Shame on you!

ArcaneWireless · 09/02/2024 09:24

It isn’t snide - just curious.

I just was wonderingg he before you question anyone else’s work ethics how you were placed. That’s all.

It isn’t benefits bashing but allowances/help is also via tax payer which I’m happy to contribute to if people need help.

you, I’m afraid are reading things into my post which aren’t there. Which is getting typical on here.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 09/02/2024 09:26

@Fringepolitics294 it’s a perfectly valid question, and not in the way you are interpreting it. 54% of the population are net takers from the taxpayer. Probably a lot of people who cite “I pay my taxes” as a reason to make demands on the RF, or, as on the Catherine thread, demand to know details of her condition, don’t register they are also takers, and so should also be subject to the same demands. As well as anyone who makes a living in the public sector. It’s absurd and highly intrusive to suggest you own someone and can demand details about their personal life because they are paid for by the taxpayer.

ArcaneWireless · 09/02/2024 09:27

By all means report me. I have broken no guidelines.

ArcaneWireless · 09/02/2024 09:31

And don’t tell me about disabilities. I’m also a carer for my parents. One physically broken. One with dementia. And a sibling with a life limiting illness.

So away with your aspersions.

I maintain that it was a very rude and ill thought out question.

You don’t understand why someone is upset when someone questions their work ethic?

And if you aren’t benefits bashing why ask whether I am on them in the light of this discussion?

There are lots of people justifiably on benefits who can’t work because of mental or physical work issues. Are they not allowed an opinion on the royal family?

I still think you should ask for the post to be withdrawn.

Your question was not benign curiosity; it was rude and upsetting.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/02/2024 09:39

I just read it as 'what do you do that you've the time to post these long rambling posts?' frankly.

And people can question my work ethic all they like on here - I know what it is so the opinions of strangers are in the end irrelevant to me and certainly nothing to get aerated about. When it comes down it we're all just pixels on a screen to everyone else.

It’s not a valid question at all and I am surprised you are defending it. It’s contains the disgusting inference that people on benefits aren’t allowed a say on how our country operates.

What difference does it make if someone is on benefits or not? Please explain it to me?

”Probably a lot of people” is not a very good answer I’m afraid.

ArcaneWireless · 09/02/2024 09:40

You don’t understand why someone is upset when someone questions their work ethic?

But you are questioning someone’s work ethic.

Why is that different? Is it possible he could be upset?

I’m not saying you aren’t allowed an opinion but the same question can be asked if you play the tax payer card or question someone else’s work ethic.

I’m not going to argue with you about my intentions or your interpretation.

Suffice to say you are mistaken. Shame on you for putting words in my mouth that weren’t there.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 09/02/2024 09:40

Who is saying they can’t talk about the RF? There is a world of difference between the discussion, “Is the Royal Family value for money for us as a society?” and “What’s that lazy bastard William doing right now, why should he get time off when his wife is ill when the rest of us don’t? I pay my taxes and demand to know what’s going on in his private life.” By that logic, anyone who lives by the public purse for whatever reason should be under the same sort of scrutiny.

No it is not. It is saying the exact opposite. That people are allowed a bloody private life and to handle time off or an illness without having to be under the microscope. Just because the taxpayer pays for you does not mean you are owned by the tax payer.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/02/2024 09:50

I'm on state pension so technically I suppose I'm paid for by the taxpayer. Anyone want a breakdown of my day/week and what I did?

Are you serious?

There are loads of people on here posting long answers! Why is it just republicans that get admonished for it?

If you look properly you will see that I posted ages ago on this thread and then there were days and days when I didn’t comment because I was working.

I don’t owe you or anyone else an explanation as to why I am free today to post.

And please don’t try and disparage me or try and make me feel that my upset is not justified. I am old enough to know when I am upset or not, and anyone who was asked that question would find it rude, except if you are part of a monarchist cabal on here which is unable to tolerate even the mildest and quite moderate criticism of the royals!

People who resort to asking personal and quite insulting questions have already lost the argument imho.

CoffeeCantata · 09/02/2024 09:51

I think, whatever your opinion of William and RF, now is not a good time to start slagging William off for being lazy. It's surely not going to be 'typical' - things are very difficult at the moment.

Reading some pps, I realise that I don't care how many hours they work, as long as they get the job done. Several of them have had to cancel things over the last few weeks for obvious reasons - and that's been unavoidable.

In some jobs you clock on and off, and in some jobs you have to fulfil your professional duties in whatever time it takes. You might have to work very unsocial hours - evenings and weekends.

We either have a RF or we don't - but if we do, I'm not interested in checking their hours - just that they fulfil their obligations and tasks well and don't embarrass us on the world stage!

(Incidentally - just heard a rumour that when Camilla met President Biden he did a very long fart, which he seemed quite unaware of. Oh dear! Now, when they start doing that while meeting world leaders, I think there'll need to be a re-think).

Sorry to lower the tone.

I think you're assuming a degree of interest in you and your posts and opinions that I really don't have. I haven't even noticed your posts until you decided that we 'cabal of monarchists' had it in for you and your republican friends on here.

Anyway, previous experience has taught me not to engage with someone who clearly wants a fight. Have a nice day.

You are really twisting my words for the benefit of your argument.

I was asking questions about PW taking a lot of time off but I couched them in much more nuanced and moderate language than you have used here.

I maintain that I am allowed to raise the subject.

jeffgoldblum · 09/02/2024 09:57

@Fringepolitics294 , from what I can see as a casual observer on this particular back and forth,
You are now complaining about posters doing to you what you just did to William, it's not nice being questioned about personal things and having people doubt your work ethics.

Sorry but this is outrageous and unfair.

~ 1. It was YOU MrsDanversGlidesAgain who raised the subject of how often I post so YOU demonstrated an interest in it.

~ 2. You have chosen the wrong Mumsnetter to address that comment to because I am not honestly interested in fighting at all. I am interested in putting an alternative Republican viewpoint across. Mumsnet HQ will confirm that I try to do that respectfully and moderately.

~3. It was ArcaneWireless’s really rude question that set this argument off so please don’t try and turn the blame around on me.

I'm not twisting your words. I am not talking about you. I am talking about an abstract "They". They being the hypothetical poster who seems to believe (erroneously in many cases) that they pay for the RF and who are therefore entitled to demand to know what this one particular member of the RF is doing (or not doing) in the event of his wife's illness - ie, demanding details about his private life.
