Wishing, Princess Kate a speedy and full recovery from me and my family.
Looking forward to Kate and William doing their bit for the UK soon.
A great family that is adored around the world.

On the subject of women’s mh - I don’t know how any of the women who marry in to the royal family withstand the intense scrutiny of the paparazzi and all of the long lenses and wierd theories and speculation that’s concocted about them - and remain stable and sane.

They are forced to live in such a bubble. Even worse for the RF themselves who don’t have an “outside” family to turn to like Katherine has.

I suspect it’s all much worse than those of us who can pop out to Sainsbogs whenever we like can possibly imagine. Having to cover your tracks all of the time, not knowing who to trust, wondering if your phone is bugged, having to put up with all of the sycophancy!

And it’s one thing to have to withstand all of that when you have made the decision as an informed adult to marry in, but absolutely unnacceptable, psychologically speaking, for children to be burdened and corrupted by this nonsense!

Set them free I say! Vive la révolution!

And just for the record, I think she’s had abdominal surgery and is in recovery. I think she’s probably made of pretty stern material to have lasted 20 plus years with the firm. I think she will have access to all the help she needs. There’s another failure of logic - those who argue that she’s spoiled at the taxpayer’s expense and in possession of more help than anyone could possibly ever need, including parents and Nannies on tap, but then she’s not allowed to have a therapist because of the RF, her own mental health advocate husband, well-being nut father in law and DV advocate step MIL won’t allow it, and presumably are stopping her parents and sister helping her to get help too.

Twenty plus yrs? Only about 10.

Twenty plus yrs? Only about 10.

They have been married since 2011, but she first became involved with William in 2001. So yes, 20+ years in and around the Royal family

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/02/2024 21:43

@smilesy thank you. Yes, they were together a long time before their engagement in 2010. Years when Catherine had little in the way of protection from the media’s relentless scrutiny.

Indeed. I remember her being chased down the street by the paps. Shouting at her, cameras in her face. She's made of stern stuff. Plus she has a loving and supportive family - on both sides.

I understand why It was mentioned.

Like others here, it was completely unnecessary to use that particular phrase.

The women were besieged and ‘attacked’ and mis-called enough.

For one person who had experienced it to use another’s insult/nickname to press their point home wasn’t fair.

And it speaks volumes about MM.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/02/2024 22:05

Absolutely @Maireas . I know we can’t know what happens behind closed doors, but you can see easygoing affection between Catherine and her in-laws and husband when in public. I don’t think any of them are good enough actors to fake it. And her mum, dad and sister are clearly very close with her and William. She’s bound to take a great deal of strength from those bonds.

This was on her 25th birthday

Oh my god - that photographer is practically in her face! Did they learn nothing from Diana?
Awful.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/02/2024 22:33

There’s other photos of her too . Unfortunately it wasn’t a one - off .

Maireas · 04/02/2024 22:41

She was properly harassed.

wildernesssw · 04/02/2024 22:49

Yes, she had a very rough time, and it is sad some people minimise what she went through

I don’t think that anyone is minimising it are they? I do think however that when racism is present, it introduces a whole other level of nastiness in to the mix. Something us privileged white folk cannot fully comprehend.

Also, although Kate, Fergie and Camilla have all suffered press harassment, I don’t think there has ever been such a truly coordinated global campaign of hatred in all of the right wing press as there has been against MM.

It’s tantamount to that suffered by Diana.

And it happens when anyone is seen to threaten or openly criticise the institution of the monarchy. And it’s so obvious and blatant! But no one talks about it.

From the moment anyone openly criticises the monarchy or members of the RF, they are persona non grata and the doors of the establishment and the powers that be (an omertà if you like) are closed against them, they are ostracised, and their name is destroyed forever whether they had good cause to complain or not. That is how power operates and how it maintains the status quo.

BrittleVeneers · 04/02/2024 23:09

Yes all the girlfriends have found themselves blocked besieged and spied on by paparazzi. And it’s a disgrace, and as I said before why doesn't that family do more to protect the women that their sons are dating? They have the resources.

Calling Kate, a whore in order to get her to turn around.Screaming obscenities at her. On a number of occasions. And crowding her into a corner against lift doors at an airport - she was stuck there until the doors opened. I’ve seen the footage. It’s not only the invasion of privacy, it’s also the threatening way they do it.

Meghan’s experiencing of having her Toronto house besieged and her neighbour being offered money to put a camera in his backyard to point it at Meghan’s (the neighbour declined but not all would to so). As well as guards and fencing installed at her workplace. It just occurred to me that the Suits producers protected Meghan more than the RF have done for any of the girlfriends.

its not hard to see why Chelsea, a reportedly very private young woman backed off. She was in her home country when the tracker was found on her car.

Not a girlfriend, but I’m reminded of Sienna Miller’s experience of being chased by papparazi down a lane and saying she ran, not knowing if all the people chasing her were indeed paparazzi intent only on getting her picture no matter what, or if someone in the group may have been intent on harming her. She felt in physical danger.

Which is something they all most likely feel.

Good post, Fringepolitics

💯

wildernesssw · 04/02/2024 23:22

Nope, I don't qualify as 'us privileged white folk'.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/02/2024 23:23

I thought the Toronto Chief of Police totally dismissed Meghan’s claims ?

BrittleVeneers · 04/02/2024 23:32

I saw no such dismissal.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/02/2024 23:41

There are numerous reports of his statement.

BrittleVeneers · 04/02/2024 23:50

He said the police responded to the harassment Meghan was getting and had police check her street etc.

This was not what we’ve been talking about.
IE that Meghan was subjected to papparazi harassment like the other royal girlfriends.

This article you’ve linked to, is about Meghans assertion that the police did not do enough to protect her, and the police bloke said they did enough to protect her.

So, my conclusion is that papparazi were behaving badly is correct. That the police did attend supports that.

ArcaneWireless · 04/02/2024 23:56

Nor do I @wildernesssw

wildernesssw · 05/02/2024 00:02

We obviously aren't the right sort of people of colour

Mylovelygreendress · 05/02/2024 00:03

i never said she wasn’t subject to Paparazzi attention . He dismissed her claims which she made on Netflix that she was not offered protection .which was untrue .

wildernesssw · 05/02/2024 00:06

Maybe because, strange as it seems, people of colour have a range of opinions?
