Why are the papers saying that William will have to 'juggle childcare and looking after Kate'
They literally live with loads of staff to do everything when they are well , let alone ill

Yes but maybe he wants to read them a bedtime story or reassure them before they go to school. I think he’s more hands on and present in his children’s lives than his parents or grandparents. And just maybe he wants to be with his wife when she gets home. Is that so hard to imagine?

ElisabethZott · 18/01/2024 08:18

@Frasers thank you for educating me on an illness I’ve lived for most of my life. I won’t engage with you again

JanuaryJunipers · 18/01/2024 08:18

Maybe because she has to appear in public a lot they want to give her time for her hormones to settle down if it is a hysterectomy. If she is catapulted into menopause that isn't going to fun if she is feeling awful during an engagement. I don't know much about it, but I imagine it's very different for someone who has to be at the top of her game all the time and under a lot of scrutiny.

@Frasers yes “during a flare up” are the key words. Flare ups might be years apart and the treatment is much better making it manageable unless a bowel obstruction occurs then surgical intervention might be necessary

My family member has been in a permanent flare up for the last two years and not had diarrhoea. Only for a few weeks following surgery, then back to going once a day.

DewinDwl · 18/01/2024 08:22

Frasers · 18/01/2024 07:40

One of the key symptoms when the disease is active is severe diarrhoea. Kate is in public, planned well in advance, often up to a year, and for often very long periods. It is clearly not crohns.

I'll be sure to tell my aunt and cousin they have been doing Crohn's wrong for 20 years

It won't be a hysterectomy.

The time in hospital can be as little as a couple of days and in most women now it's done keyhole or vaginally.

A friend of mine in her 50s has had a total hyster for womb cancer and was out within a few days.

And email the nhs as well, tell them whilst you’re at it 😂

User3563573 · 18/01/2024 08:34

Read a comment by a nurse on Tiktok which said that the vast majority of gynaecological surgeries require less than 6 days recovery whereas bowel surgeries can go up to 10-14 because of the complexities involved. The operated bowel needs to start functioning again whereas a hysterectomy is just healing, similar to post-csection.

Yes, that site is incorrect in listing it as a main symptom. If it said 'often a main symptom' rather than implying always, then it would be right. Glad my family member's gastroenterologist and surgeon were correctly informed.

CurlewKate · 18/01/2024 08:36

I do think it's the language that's used in attempt to make them sound "just like us" that can get people's backs up. Obviously William will want to visit his wife and support her while she recovers and to spend more time with their children. But talking about him "juggling childcare" is borderline offensive. Of course she needs privacy, peace and quiet to recover. But she has a lovely house and all the medical and nursing care she needs- so no, she doesn't need two weeks in hospital to keep her out of the public eye. Members of the royal family have gone in and out of hospital loads of times without being spotted. Oh, and if it's true that she had cancelled a meeting with the Pope, then it's very unlikely that all this was planned.

No , William wanting to parent his kids and be with his wife etc is not hard to imagine. He’s probably very worried about Kate. Their children are likely worried about their mum too, and missing her, and it’s great he can take time off to be with them day and night. I imagine he’s very invested in giving his children the sort of parent that he didn’t have - a hands on one.

But he’s not having to do the super marketing, the cleaning, the cooking, the laundry and ironing and the myriad other things most parents have to do. And there is at least one nanny that we know of. He wouldn’t even have to drive himself to the hospital and waste time trying to find a parking spot. Nor is he worrying about paying any extra costs that come with one person in the family being ill. Some parents do the lot and also have to go to work outside the home. And hope that when they are late or need to take time off their boss is understanding.

So the idea he's ‘juggling’ being a parent is silly. It was a stupid headline trying to sell us this image of how he’s just like us. He’s not.

BrittleVeneers · 18/01/2024 08:41

crossed post. Well put CurlewKate.

There is so much more in your abdomen than your bowels and intestines. Kidneys. Liver, pancreas, gall bladder, spleen. As well as ovaries, uterus, bladder, fallopian tubes, and many major blood vessels, inc abdominal aorta.

i really can’t get why folks are so obsessed with her bowels and intestines.

This sounds much more likely than a hysterectomy, which is a pretty bog standard op these days with a short hospital stay time, even if you've got cancer. The Queen had one and was out in four days, recuperating at home afterwards.

Genuinely if you’re upset as I disagree she’s likely got crohns you prob should hide ghe thread rather than start attacking.

I think you’ll find it was you that initially got upset when I mentioned an ED. God forbid anyone disagrees with you.

CoasttoCoastlines · 18/01/2024 08:51

I think if it had been a hysterectomy it may have been made public because Camilla's was.

Today they are often done vaginally, which means the recovery is quicker and women are out in a couple of days. (And they have said it's not cancer.)

I would imagine it's more to do with removing and rejoining something in her 'guts' where they need to be sure everything is functioning properly and there's no infection.

Whatever it is, if it has been there for some time, I take my hat off to her for appearing in public looking immaculate when she may have felt rubbish.

Medics agree it's likely an ED though no meds think cosmetic surgery. She has to be watched.
