I don’t get this “Kate is lazy” schtick.

William and Kate have clearly learnt from generations before them that shit, absent parenting in the RF has a damaging effect. They state clearly that they wish to enjoy raising their kids alongside engagements.

Last year Kate carried out 134 engagements, William 175. That’s around the equivalent of a 3 day week for her and a 4 day week for him (if you took 4 weeks annual leave into account). Would people they were rather shitty parents like the Queen was? Barely seeing her children in the pursuit of ‘duty’?

It’s nothing like 3 days a week. Two or three events/activities often take place in the same day. And let’s not forget that some of these events are thing like attending the BAFTAs, garden parties and state dinners. It’s hardly taxing.

bessytedsy · 17/01/2024 22:21

Isn’t there nuance though? Obviously I wish her a speedy recovery but I don’t know her or idolise her & I don’t buy into the monarchy.

Blomh · 17/01/2024 22:21

Tummy tuck I bet.

I mean I can’t diss them for this as who wants to cut ribbons & make small talk but you are aware of what an engagement is?

I'd find those things taxing. 😀

And sometimes they’re a full day, or a whole week, or several days.

Seriously the woman can’t do right.

Someone earlier said they’re away from their kids too much and others say they’re at home too much.

Also unless you’re a big fan of the engagements and get value out of them and see the value, you don’t reallly have a right to complain that you want moreZ it smacks a bit of
“They should work way more “
“Why do you want to see more of them?”
”Oh god no can’t stand them the lazy pair”

🙄

i suspect it brings up an awareness of how great inequality is between people in society.

that’s a very good point, we are a deeply unequal society & the royals are the epitome of that.

I've never seen anyone look in less need of a tummy tuck than Kate..

I'm not unhappy. I am not a fan of the monarchy and believe it should be abolished -but- at the same time I believe that K will be given the best treatment and care available and so it should be. And she should have as much time out as she wants / need.

Likewise for anyone who can afford to pay top dollar for the very best of hospitals, why would anyone want them to be in the same crappy conditions and the (frankly horrific) NHS and expected to go back to work the day after surgery just because that's what people on Universal Credit would have to or something... jeez I'm not keen on the hierarchy but the very point of it all is that they don't have to suffer like we do. If they did, then somethings gone awry, badly.

Ideally we should all be treated with such care but it just ain't so.

Regrettably, have been on UC for a few years now. Had surgery back in July 2023, NHS although the surgeon operates out of a private hospital, and have been signed off for 24 months. Not only that, have actually been given additional benefits.

So no, rather a sweeping statement on your part inasmuch as that the NHS can offer excellent treatment and if you're claiming UC, you aren't expected back at work the day after surgery or anything remotely like that.

PanamaPamela77 · 17/01/2024 22:25

I do know someone who is very comfortably off who had a routine operation and then went for the first part of their recuperation to a rehabilitation centre which was part hospital and part health spa where they had physio and a special diet every day. That’s how some of the very rich do it.

I hope it is something like that anyway rather than something very serious. It would be easier to protect her privacy that way I suppose.

Nor in need of the facelift that someone upthread insanely suggested.

Ownedbykitties · 17/01/2024 22:27

If they wanted privacy they shouldn’t have announced it. No one would have noticed (or cared much) if she disappeared for two weeks.
Unkind. Untrue. There are thousands of people who would notice.

Indeed.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 17/01/2024 22:27

Hmm. I’ve just come off a horrible forum where Catherine has been accused of having cosmetic surgery, and a bunch of bitchy women are behaving like ‘les tricoteuse’ on steroids.

The venom aimed at both Meghan and Catherine makes me feel deeply uncomfortable and depressed. And I’m a fully paid up member of Republic.

teddycoat · 17/01/2024 22:28

Most private patients aren’t Royal & also we don’t know if she actually will stay in for 10-14 days, that’s just what the press release says

Royals are still at risk of blood clots just like the rest of us so going home and walking around a bit would still be recommended if it’s at all possible. Sure maybe she won’t stay for 14 days but if she does then it’s certainly not because she wants a “rest”, it’s because it’s medically required.

Did you not even watch the news, read any news on it, just rush in to comment, no it’s not that, she’s staying in actual hospital not off to a spa.

I didn't see that. Crazy. This is another reason I wouldn't want to swap places. At least I don't have people discussing what I'm wearing and how I look all the time. I think Kate does an amazing job in her role. I don't think I'd cope with it.

No wonder H&M hot footed it across the pond quicker than you can say Spare!

I find it interesting that Charless prostrate thread has about 6 posts and Kates has raced along nearly full (don't show Charles Kate)

Yes very good point.

To widen the discussion, there’s the argument that the institution represents the country and therefore it should be represented by the very best of everything.

But I think the pendulum has swung too far when we have a very costly Coronation ceremony while there are so many people homeless and sleeping rough on the streets or sofa surfing. Or children in b&bs. It doesn’t seem morally right to me but there we are.

The monarchy is not the only institution that wastes money, look at this government for example, but it still doesn’t make it right.

MrsFinkelstein · 17/01/2024 22:33

alltootired · 17/01/2024 16:09

People are back to normal activities 2-4 weeks after an appendix operation, not 3 months afterwards. The exception is if you have other medical conditions, but Kate has always seemed very healthy and is young.

No, they're not. My 22yo daughter was off work for 6 weeks after her appendectomy. That was only last year.

StuckintheRutt · 17/01/2024 22:34

Yes but no one is bemoaning Charles prorated issues.

That's also inequity. No one seems to care?

teddycoat · 17/01/2024 22:34

The hospital she’s in specialises in “the care and treatment of complex medical conditions, such as cancer, women's health, urology, and orthopaedics (bones and joints) “

It’s not a fucking part spa fgs!
