Yes they do, not sure why folks seem to be focusing on a stoma . Utterly ridiculous.

I'm not focusing on it, I'm giving an example I am familiar with that isn't rare or obscure.

Why would it matter if she had a stoma? Do you have a problem with ostomates?

BirthdayRainbow · 17/01/2024 20:12

They really wouldn't tell us more than she's happy for us to know just to stop speculation. Come on.

She might be reading. She!might even be a member for all we know. She might have made several posts to aibu to complain about her mil.

Nothing wrong with sending good wishes.

I’m pretty sure she hasn’t posted to complain about her mother in law. If you think carefully

User1775 · 17/01/2024 20:14

I immediately thought a medical abortion due to an anomaly being located and she is only in for a day but needs time off to recover, rest, grieve and become Princess again.

@Frasers And the royals do not own the duchy, although they take the profits.

Teddleshon · 17/01/2024 20:15

Why would the taxpayer be funding this? Their private income is from the Duchy of Cornwall. Do people carry on like this if the Duchess of Beaufort or Duke of Westminster have an operation? Is it all Ducal estates people have a problem with or just those that belong to the Royal Family?

I have a problem with a set up where the royal family claim the duchy is not government owned when it suits them, and then claim it is not private when it suits them.

Open surgery for bowel resection plus/minus stoma has a guide inpatient time of up to 10-14 days with 3 month recovery.

I'm sure plenty of other procedures do too.

That's the exact operation my cousin had and they were out in four days. It was done privately too.

That’s not the full story either part of the profit goes back to the government and as the king made some very good investments it was a lot of money recently . It’s a complicated set up but when you take everything into account they do not cost the tax payer a huge amount . There are figures out there .

GothConversionTherapy · 17/01/2024 20:19

Even in a luxurious private hospital I would want to go home asap. Off until Easter ! I'm not a huge fan of the RF but it must be pretty serious.

Good for them. They're one person.

alltootired · 17/01/2024 20:20

@Sureaseggs44 it should all go to the government.

It's entirely possible that members of the Royal Family have private medical insurance, just like some of us peasants do.

My insurance covered my surgery at The London Clinic last year. It's an excellent hospital. I hope she's back on her feet soon and feeling better.

I sincerely doubt it.

I understand they have cancelled all overseas travel for the foreseeable. Inc s visit to the Pope. This must be extremely serious.

Yep, and their surgeon seemed to think 3-4 days was pretty standard. They wanted them out as soon as possible. Explanation: No-one does well being laid up too long and it was important to be moving as soon as possible. Wasting starts quickly. There's also the risk of hospital acquired infection, so the less time the better.

Comedycook · 17/01/2024 20:22

I couldn't give a dam if her hospital stay is courtesy of the tax payer or not. I don't know who's paying for it but I do know that the government has spent over £200 million on this ridiculous Rwanda plan...so if a two week hospital stay for the future queen is funded by us...I'd say that is absolutely not something to get angry about.

Teddleshon · 17/01/2024 20:22

The Duchy of Cornwall is a private estate, just like all the other Ducal estates.

QueenOfMOHO · 17/01/2024 20:22

Wishing her a speedy recovery. 💐

Yes, how nice to be able to take the long off for recovery. Unless there's no choice, and maybe that's the case for her, most of us don't have the choice of that much time off.

CoasttoCoastlines · 17/01/2024 20:24

topnoddy · 17/01/2024 20:01

It's not the NHS is it !

Expensive exclusive private hospital

All being paid for by the UK tax payers no doubt

This is nonsense.

Private hospitals discharge patients at the right time, which is usually asap.

And there are plenty of 'ordinary people' who can afford these hospitals. private medical cover of around £1K a year (or as part of an employment package) can buy you that kind of hospital.

SweetChilliChickenWrap · 17/01/2024 20:25

What on earth do people with unlimited wealth need with medical insurance.

The Queen handed over 12 mil to save Andrew's backside, a couple of weeks in a private hospital will be pennies to them!

Frasers · 17/01/2024 20:26

alltootired · 17/01/2024 20:15

@Frasers And the royals do not own the duchy, although they take the profits.

All personal expenses are taken from the duchy, inc living. Ie hospital. And he does own it, he’s just not permitted to sell assets for personal gain and it has to be passed to his son.
