Don't understand this feeling with calling Camilla the queen, she's the queen consort only.

She is actually very much the Queen

The Duchy of Cornwall is a private estate, just like all the other Ducal estates.

No it is not. Tax normally paid is not paid.

equinoxprocess · 17/01/2024 20:21

I sincerely doubt it.

You might be surprised. Aviva used to have a royal warrant because they insured so many members of the royal family. Their warrant only disappeared because a decision was made that warrants could only be held by tradespeople rather than professions due to it being so commercially sensitive.

Can you take the financials somewhere else, it’s derailing the thread and in poor taste.

CoasttoCoastlines · 17/01/2024 20:24

This is nonsense.

Private hospitals discharge patients at the right time, which is usually asap.

And there are plenty of 'ordinary people' who can afford these hospitals. private medical cover of around £1K a year (or as part of an employment package) can buy you that kind of hospital.

My insurance covers the London clinic, if you have private cover covering the London hospitals it will be covered as standard.

The whole thread is in poor taste. The poor cow, she doesn't deserve this level of speculation and scrutiny.

I don't think alamo55 can have watched the coronation, when Camilla was crowned Queen.

It's not as poor taste as the game of "guess the condition"

Wearegettingfedup · 17/01/2024 20:35

Am not a massive royalist ,but as a human being , hope she gets better soon . She is obviously very unwell at the moment.

SweetChilliChickenWrap · 17/01/2024 20:36

I love it when the holier than thous see a thread title, salivate at what could be acieved within the thread, gleefully open it up and shout with joy at how many times and ways they can pronounce said thread to be in such poor taste!

Rather than just thinking, oh I bet that thread will be chock full of speculation, I think I'll avoid it.

The truth about the Duchy of Cornwall.
https://www.republic.org.uk/cornwall_and_the_duchy

The Duchy is exempt from many many laws that apply to everyone else.

"The Duchy of Cornwall automatically owns all mines in Cornwall, irrespective of the individual ownership of the land. This includes mines under the sea extending beyond Cornwall but originating there.

The Duchy of Cornwall has the right to claim “Bona Vacantia” within Cornwall. That is to say, where property within Cornwall becomes ownerless, it belongs to the Duke of Cornwall instead of the government. Typically this would arise where a person dies without leaving a will and without having any traceable relatives. The Duke also administers the estates of people who die without a will, even if the rightful owner is eventually traced. The Duke owns “treasure troves” in Cornwall: finds of buried valuable metalwork of a certain age. It has only enjoyed this right in law since 1996.

How awful it must be to need surgery and also having to think about all these extra things like the media too and try to keep your children calm despite all of this speculation.

I really like her a lot and hope she will be ok very soon.

alltootired · 17/01/2024 20:40

@SweetChilliChickenWrap some people just like to tell others off. You saw them a lot during the pandemic.

I see the thread police are out in force. If talk breaks guidelines the report it. Since it was the main item of news its hardly surprising people are discussing it.

Yes, same, I’m not a Royalist either, but as a mother to another mother, I genuinely hope she is ok and wish her all the best for a total and speedy recovery.

The thing that slightly worries me about the statement is the phrase “the operation was a success” . If it was a routine op, wouldn’t you just say “the operation went well”? Maybe I’m reading too much in to it.

Meowandthen · 17/01/2024 20:46

The nosy guesses are weird. You don’t know her and it’s none of your business.

CathyorClaire · 17/01/2024 20:46

The Duchy of Cornwall is a private estate

It veers between private and public.

Depends what suits the royal wallet at the time.

Reddog1 · 17/01/2024 20:49

Lol at Kate being “a private person”. She pretty ruthlessly chased down the second in line to the throne at St Andrews, and has barely been out of the newspapers since. Fair enough, she didn’t force him to marry, he obvs liked her a lot (who wouldn’t, she’s lovely) but to describe her as private is absurd - she chose this life and all that goes with it.

And it’s reasonable to wonder how this thing is being funded when taxpayers are waiting 24 months for knee replacements and cancer operations are being cancelled, I think.

And I say that as someone who is fairly neutral on the monarchy. 🤷‍♀️

alltootired · 17/01/2024 20:50

I agree that Kate does not seem to be a private person.

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 17/01/2024 20:50

if it was planned surgery, why is she having to cancel loads of appointments? Surely you wouldnt make them in the first place if it was planned?

Royal engagements are planned months or years in advance, especially if they involve overseas travel - someone mentioned an upcoming trip to Rome. These arrangements will have been in the diary long before the problem, whatever it is, became apparent.

VioletMountainHare · 17/01/2024 20:51

Mothermummymum · 17/01/2024 15:00

My opinion is that she has probably entered rehab for an eating disorder that it’s clear for the world to see she has.
No shame in rehab and no shame in wanting to cover it up if that’s your choice.

@Mothermummymum 🤣 You don’t recover from an eating disorder after two weeks in hospital!

JoeMaplin · 17/01/2024 20:51

Waxwin9 · 17/01/2024 14:52

Most are send home the same or a day later and back to work within a fortnight or 3 weeks. But then, it's the Royals, anything is possible. Wonder how many years she lingered on waiting lists.

Have you had a hysterectomy? Very, very few people would be back to work after 2 weeks! I am on several hysterectomy groups and rarely do people have less than 8 weeks off, 12 is usual. And surprisingly for surgery, of which I’ve had many, when usually you are encouraged to get back to normal soon but for hysterectomy this is actively discouraged. You are not supposed to lift anything heavier than a kettle for 3 weeks and the nhs actually advise this. I was quite surprised initially but it makes sense as the chance of prolapse is high.

JoeMaplin · 17/01/2024 20:52

I was off for 10 weeks and then a phased return after hysterectomy and I’m similar age to Kate.

SweetChilliChickenWrap · 17/01/2024 20:54

Planned surgery can be when tests are done, results come back, and the surgeon puts you in their diary for the next available slot.

For me it was a fortnight (a few years ago!), for her it could be a couple of days.

Meowandthen · 17/01/2024 20:46

The nosy guesses are weird. You don’t know her and it’s none of your business.

That’s what is problematic about being a member of the RF though isn’t it?

Of course I feel every sympathy for K as a private woman and hope that she is allowed the privacy to recover properly and in peace. I’m
sure every decent person would agree with that.

In reality though it is a little problematic to expect there to be no speculation and total privacy when they want it and invite journalists in to their lives when it is helpful for the institution.

I know that sounds cruel in this situation but that’s why it is anachronistic to have a monarchy in this day and age imho.
