Well I can understand why she'd want her private medical information kept private.

They have just finished talking about prostate cancer on radio- signs treatments etc - so that's done what Prince Charles wanted -raised awareness and possible encouraged some men to get checked out.

Jenasaurus · 17/01/2024 17:13

Oh no. Just spotted my error 😂

What did you mean to type? 😕

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 17:32

Quite possibly was a routine op that had complications. That's the only reason I can think of such a prolonged recovery. Most other surgeries even quite serious have a shorter recovery time

Peanutsnanna · 17/01/2024 17:33

At a guess, hysterectomy. They will be worried she will over do it if she goes home too soon.😂

Neurodiversitydoctor · 17/01/2024 17:34

Meredusoleil · 17/01/2024 17:11

NRTFT but rather than hysterectomy, I was thinking tubal litigation ie sterilisation?

That is not abdominal surgery and definitely doesn't need 14
days in hospital.

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:34

Far too long in hospital to be a hysterectomy.

Betsyhilton · 17/01/2024 17:35

User3563573 · 17/01/2024 17:26

A c-section is also considered "major" abdominal surgery and patients are shoved out the door after 24hrs. In other countries, c-sections are given 3-5 days of recovery, similar to a hysterectomy.

So recovery time doesn't necessarily correlate to the severity of the procedure. Some minor operations end up with complications that require longer recoveries. Anyone remember that bizarre story with Princess Charlene of Monaco? Apparent a botched dental operation left her rail thin and needing treatment in South Africa away from her kids for over a year. However things all turned out well in the end.

Well exactly. Just because some people were home after one day, and back doing housework and going camping after a couple of weeks, doesn't mean that it isn't a major operation which many women take months to recover from and require a longish stay in hospital. I've no idea why the Princess of Wales required surgery, but some posters seem to be adamant that it couldn't be a hysterectomy because they themselves were out in 2 days, and didn't require a 3 month recovery period. That simply isn't true.

ssd · 17/01/2024 17:35

Hope she's ok, i like her.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 17:36

@Betsyhilton still doesn't mean they would keep you in hospital that long even if everyone recovers at a different rate at home.

Meredusoleil · 17/01/2024 17:36

Neurodiversitydoctor · 17/01/2024 17:34

How is that not abdominal? Just because it's done via keyhole surgery? It's still the abdomen!

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:37

Kate is a young and very fit woman. She is the kind of person who you would expect to have a quick recovery.
Its lardy arses like me that take longer to recover.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 17:38

Because it's gynaecological not abdominal

Neurodiversitydoctor · 17/01/2024 17:38

Fallopian tubes are not abdominal organs, don't they do it hysteropitcally these days ?

TrickyD · 17/01/2024 17:38

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:22

@TrickyD the old types of general anaesthetic did used to knock people out and they could take a day or two to be totally with it. So maybe he was about 50 years behind the times?

He used to say ‘Remember an anaesthetic is a brain poison’.

FluffyFanny · 17/01/2024 17:38

"up to 2 weeks' doesn't mean definitely 2 weeks. She could be out in 2 days!

Metoo15 · 17/01/2024 17:39

Keyhole hysterectomy you come home the same day nowadays. Whatever it is get well soon.

Citrusandginger · 17/01/2024 17:39

Abdominal surgery requiring a 14 night hospital stay would usually mean major surgery, cutting through layers of muscle to get to whatever organs need repair or removal.

Tubal ligation can usually be performed laparoscopically and would be day stay. I doubt any announcement would have been needed.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 17/01/2024 17:41

Perhaps they have just said 10-14 days, she could possibly be out earlier than that. It depends on her recovery rate, I doubt she'd want to be in that long and be away from the children. They are probably erring on the side of caution.

This lardy arse is on an nhs waiting list somewhere for a total hysterectomy. It’s a years wait apparently. I’ve been quite ill but clear biopsy so now waiting. I’m dreading it. I had thought a few days in hospital then weeks recovering at home. Then a few months before back to full strength.
the royal family will obviously get very different care and hopefully she has nothing seriously wrong and the timeline is just giving them space for privacy. She can come out quietly in a few days maybe. I wish her well and hope it’s nothing serious.

Peanutsnanna · 17/01/2024 17:42

They wouldn't say she was having a gyne op.

Sunday12 · 17/01/2024 17:45

Peanutsnanna · 17/01/2024 17:42

They wouldn't say she was having a gyne op.

Not on an official announcement no. But she seems like a very nice person so perhaps in the future she would talk about it if it was gynaecological and if it helped women.

I feel so embarrassed needing a hysterectomy. I’m ashamed and embarrassed. It would be good if women’s health could be more openly spoken of.

but the future queen absolutely does not need to tell the country her private and intimate business.

neighboursareselling · 17/01/2024 17:46

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 17/01/2024 17:14

Yet here you are, reading it.

Yes, utterly revolting.

Now where are my reading glasses, I need to look up 'pegging'.

neighboursareselling · 17/01/2024 17:48

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 17:28

@penjil I was treated at a private hospital actually.

My husband was treated at a private hospital.

It was so luxurious he didn't want to come home.

And the food menu was 4 pages long!!

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:48

@Sunday12 I am sorry you feel ashamed of needing a hysterectomy. It is a very common operation. So many of my female friends have had one. It is nothing to be ashamed about. You did not cause this.

AnneValentine · 17/01/2024 17:48

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/01/2024 14:37

I don't believe she'll be in for a fortnight. That's for people who are seriously and unexpectedly ill or injured and start off in HDU.

Not true.

One example of a condition where you could require 10-14 days hospitalisation is chrons disease. Colitis is another.
