I'm sorry, but I'm not believing some of the stories on here. There is no way a doctor would certify anyone as fit to return to work 5 days after a total abdominal hysterectomy

I meant 5 weeks not days!

So many people don't believe that I had a total abdominal hysterectomy and was only in hospital 1 night but it is totally true.

MapleSyrupWaffles · 17/01/2024 16:58

I'm more amazed that nobody involved in the hospital, at any level, has let anything slip. I know there are serious agreements about confidentiality, but nonetheless, I'd have thought there'd have been someone who happened to mention something anonymously, and it got taken from there. That's good if it's actually working to keep things private.

BobnLen · 17/01/2024 16:58

None of us are the future queen so I don't suppose we can really compare our experiences of discharge from hospital and recuperation time.

TeaMistress · 17/01/2024 16:59

I'm revolted by some of the vicious, disgusting and hateful comments on this thread.

lol believe what you want. GPs will sign you off as fit to work if you feel fit to work. They will sign you off as unfit to work if you feel unfit to work. You've been told by many women the recovery time is nowhere near that long yet it's everyone else in the wrong?

But it depends on they type of hysterectomy. I don't know anyone who was up and walking around and fit to go home a day after a total abdominal hysterectomy under general anaesthetic.
Maybe after a vaginal hysterectomy people can be up and about.

And no, of course not everyone requires a 3 month recovery time. But many people do.

BirthdayRainbow · 17/01/2024 17:00

Quite a few royals have been to this hospital for treatment.

Some horrible posters on this thread.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 17:00

Well you've been told now there are several women who have 🤷‍♂️

Do you not recall the sad death that has already taken place following the hospital incident

That makes more sense. But I still wasn't up to much after 5 weeks. And many people aren't.
I just hate it when people (not necessarily you) assume that because they only needed a certain amount of time to recover, anyone who needs longer is malingering.

Delatron · 17/01/2024 17:02

If they released the statement to stop speculation then they’ve misjudged it. Listening to the journalist on the radio claiming ‘it must be serious for her to be in hospital so long’ this has only added fuel to the fire.

If they are just factoring in extra time then this was a mistake. They should have just said - ‘planned abdominal surgery will be out in about a week’ People aren’t going to be stalking her and checking the dates. Now they have all this further speculation.

After a hysterectomy, yes. But after a total abdominal hysterectomy it would be pretty unusual to be discharged after one day. It is major surgery.

KittenKins · 17/01/2024 17:02

I hate having my medical information picked over, so I can't imagine Kate finding it any easier.

No matter how much money you own, & how fantastic the facilities it's still hospital, she's still stuck away from her family & I doubt feeling her best.

I emphasise with anyone in that situation for more than a few days, especially with children.

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:03

It must be serious. I see the hospital is a leading specialist on treating digestive issues, cancer and bone disorders.

My surgeon worked in a private hospital in Essex. He told me that a lot of his patients who had a TAH went home after 1 night. Some after 2 nights. A lot depended on their age and fitness.

He was a big believer in being active after the op which is why he said I should get up and shower the morning after the op. He told me to go for a walk every day which I did. 2 weeks after the op me and DH spent a week camping and walked a fair amount every day.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 17:04

@mydogisthebest well you should call him and tell him @Betsyhilton knows better

TrickyD · 17/01/2024 17:04

Our GP’s rule of thumb was that you need a week off work for every 15 minutes that you have been anaesthetised. On his calculation POW must have had a long operation to take her ‘time off’ to Easter.

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:05

Kate is young and very fit so would be a candidate for a quicker recovery than many women.

Exactly there's no way she'd be told to be on bed rest for two weeks

Jenasaurus · 17/01/2024 17:06

A colostomy can mean a stay of 10 days. Maybe she has colitis or IBD and had part of her bowel removed

alltootired · 17/01/2024 17:07

Hopefully not cancer.

Not at the hospital I was in. My surgeon had pretty forward thinking views on being active after the op. Said no way should I be staying in bed or even sitting in a chair for hours. Also said it was rubbish that you shouldn't do any housework. Just not to do anything heavy like hoovering or changing the bed.

Dreadful for her if the case, but might help break the stigma round this if she decided to go public with it.

Radio 4 just said BBC understood it was serious but not cancer.

Not sure why you're being so nasty. I said many people need 3 months to recover, that it was unusual to be able to go home after 1 night, and that I didn't believe that anyone would be certified to go back to work after 5 days. The 5 days was clarified as actually being 5 weeks, and the other statements are correct.
