Possible stoma bag fitted, it’s quite a brutal operation and requires 10/14 days in hospital and long recovery period with lots of adjustment.

Oh cmon, it could be anything, repair to abdominal aorta needs up to 14 days, why speculate as you have. Bloody hell.

MaggieFS · 17/01/2024 15:20

The full statement says she was treated at The London Clinic. Interesting, because that's not normally where the Royals go. I don't think they treat EDs though so those speculators can pipe down.

Both Princess Margaret and Prince Phillip have been patients there, so I don't think it's that unusual a choice.

The length of stay (when she could have very good nursing care at home) is somewhat more unusual

Announcements about hospital admissions for senior royals is routine; cancelling of engagements by the spouse also somewhat less so.

Also announced today - the King's prostate

StillCreatingAName · 17/01/2024 15:51

Urgh, this thread. Why can’t a woman’s private medical issues be kept private regardless of who she is. The statement was clearly issued to pacify journalists who’d been circling. It must be hideous to have your health status speculated about by randoms and the media. Awful.

Frasers · 17/01/2024 15:52

MaggieNextDoor · 17/01/2024 15:48

Whatever is wrong with her - and I would imagine it's major surgery to treat inflammatory bowel disease, whether that's Crohn's or something else - the time frame given will mean she may get privacy when being discharged from hospital after a few days, because everyone has been told she will be in for 10 - 14 days.

Why would you possibly imagine that, there is no indication that’s what it is at all, it could be loads of things,

this thread is shocking,

alltootired · 17/01/2024 15:53

It is obviously serious.
And not a hysterectomy. Camilla who is much older than Kate only had 4 days in hospital for this.
She will at least get the best treatment possible.

Lizzieregina · 17/01/2024 15:53

Just heard the news here too. I really hope she’s ok as 14 days sounds like a very long time in hospital, especially as she’d get excellent care while recuperating at home.

Wishing her a very speedy return to good health.

Absolutely this. Poor woman.

And now Charles too.

Greengreenpastures · 17/01/2024 15:53

William would take time off I imagine as his wife will still be recovering so that he can be available for their three children.

It's possible that the surgery went well but she developed a complication, such as an infection.

She may also not need anywhere close to 10-14 days but they are covering their bases to try and keep questions at bay for some time.

User3563573 · 17/01/2024 15:53

Why on earth did the palace tell everyone about the king's PROSTATE (what an image) but kept things extremely vague with Kate? Obviously that's only going to lead to more speculation.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/01/2024 15:53

Newchapterbeckons · 17/01/2024 15:45

Odd that they announced the kings exact operation just now. Prostate - which now looks timed to deflect the news about Kate.

I think the RF health records may have been hacked, so they're putting it out themselves.

Alalain · 17/01/2024 15:54

I had a colon resection and was in hospital for 12 days.

3luckystars · 17/01/2024 15:54

Well I am also wishing her well whether she reads it or not. (Although I know she does) get well soon x

RandomUsernameHere · 17/01/2024 15:57

Hope she's ok. I'm not sure why they would have over estimated the time in hospital, that will just lead to people speculating that it's even more serious than it is.

ajandjjmum · 17/01/2024 15:59

Never rain, it pours. I hope both Kate and Charles recover well - I should think William feels he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders at the moment.

Piscesmumma1978 · 17/01/2024 16:00

Strange timing for them both to be in together.

I hope Kate is ok. That’s a long time to be in for anything these days x

alltootired · 17/01/2024 16:00

@RandomUsernameHere They won't. It si not a hysterectomy. It is abdominal surgery of some kind.

To quote Basil Fawlty, maybe they get a discount if they get them both done.

Covering all possibilities which could mean up to 14 days, depending on the condition and her recovery.

I find this sort of thread so distasteful and prurient. Aren’t we lucky that our every medical detail isn’t discussed on public forums?!

Because it is up to each individual how much of their personal medical information is released.

They have, for example, said about the king that his enlarged prostate is common in men his age and is benign, but it does need treatment. The King is said to be keen to share the information about his diagnosis to encourage men who may be experiencing symptoms to be get checked.

It's up to the PoWess to decide what (if anything) to put in to the public domain, and also when. Answer is, nothing right now

turkeymuffin · 17/01/2024 16:05

crumblingschools · 17/01/2024 14:57

Hopefully 10-14 days is covering all bases, and possibly means she could slip out the back door of the hospital after 5 days without the press hanging around

Hopefully this.

There's really not much you get kept in for 2 weeks for. And she won't want to be away from the kids longer than necessary.

Lots of people are more than happy to discuss their medical details on a public forum.

Piscesmumma1978 · 17/01/2024 16:06

I wonder why they even announce it. Surely she’d rather not have everyone wondering and reporting on it. The press will be camped outside the hospital I bet.

Citrusandginger · 17/01/2024 16:06

Timing for both is perhaps not too strange, if you have complete freedom of choice, there is perhaps a logic in pencilling it on for after the Christmas break.

But I do wonder if the Charles announcement is to take some heat of Kate, who perhaps doesn't want details of a bowel condition discussed. You can't blame her.

ORLt · 17/01/2024 16:06

fuckmyuteruslining · 17/01/2024 14:30

Given that the palace described the Queen's terminal cancer as periodic mobility problems I don't find their use of 'routine' here very reassuring. Apparently healthy 42 year olds don't usually need 10 days in hospital for their recovery for minor issues. It maybe elective but it's not minor.

Spot on.
