Happy Birthday, Spare!

It’s the one year anniversary of the release of Spare, how are you all celebrating?!

In all seriousness, a year on what impact do you think the book has had on the Royal Family and the Sussexes?

In my opinion it clearly did very well commercially but in popular culture it became a bit of a joke. In terms of the RF I’m not sure it made much difference - to people who already didn’t like them it confirmed what they already believed, to people who did like them it was more evidence that Harry was no loss. I also think even a year later it has made reconciliation between William and Harry impossible.

@wildernesssw In my opinion, it's pretty defeatist of two supposedly smart, talented and resourceful people to be unable to sell these qualities without the titles. It's not as if nobody knows who they are without the titles, they are two of the most famous people on the planet now. They have their feet in plenty of open and half open doors, including their own foundation work, there's no reason their ideas can't be developed and capitalised on as just plain Harry and Meghan. They should consider moving on from the titles and all that is associated with them, including their own shit stirring and that of their mouthpieces. Moving on from the RF is what they said they were doing in the summer of 2023, dropping the titles would be the logical next step.

She didn’t but did arrange to be seen hiking in all her jewels and release details about her daughters birthday party.

How awful that Meghan wore a watch and a ring whilst out walking. She should be properly vilifed for that awful act.
And the birthday party... dreadful to talk about. Whatever next.

Roussette · 14/01/2024 10:57

Rockybooboo · 14/01/2024 10:25

I don't think it would. People would still slate them for something else.

Yes. See above.

Also apologies @EncantoSpice , drink was taken , jaws was viewed, thread was diverted 😳

No, she got dressed up for a paparazzi shoot to get some attention. that’s a probability.

Then had friends give tabloids (or Scobie, minor difference though) details about her daughter’s birthday guest list and cake. Again for attention. It is sad, but not vile, in my opinion. This is more than a probability. How else would the info get out?

Roussette · 14/01/2024 11:07

Is that the walk where the pap actually is on record saying that he hid to get the picture of Meghan? And no, please don't make me go and google it (have a roast lunch to cook!) .. but there was a pap from backgrid or wherever who said it wasn't a set up shot. I think she had a vest and hat on... that pic.
Why can't she wear jewellery whilst out walking? If that's all you have to criticise her about, she's doing good 👍

So what about the birthday party, Lili looks a little sweetie, nice to see some happy pics of them. Other famous people do this x a million. H&M can if they want, we don't pay for them.

Edited

Paps would never lie, right?

Of course she can do it, as evidenced by the fact she does it regularly, but you cannot sincerely expect everyone else to pretend it’s not engaging in attention seeking behavior.

Omid Scobie?

Have they? Where's the proof?

Notmyhair · 14/01/2024 11:14

@Rockybooboo OS announced the aviation award.

AliceOlive · 14/01/2024 11:14

I’m not criticizing wearing jewelry, I’m pointing out that she’s keeping herself in the tabloids. Because that seems to be a refrain here “they haven’t done anything!”

Though generally it’s true, they haven’t done anything much but they do work at generating the public attention.

But you are criticising her for wearing jewellery.
Your words

That's just sarky and critical that she had jewellery on.

And a picture of her DD's birthday party is just 'attention seeking'. Why shouldn't they?
Look at Hello, it's full of ten page spreads of famous people. Even Zara & Mike did a massive spread, front cover and everything when their first child was born for mega bucks.
Were you as cross about that?

Interesting how proof is desired on certain points but not others.

No, the jewelry is simply additional evidence that it was staged.

Mike and Zara don’t whinge about the attention. (Nor do their people post here repeatedly about how they’ve kept themselves out of the public eye but still get unwanted attention when it’s not true). MIke and Zara don’t virtue signal about how they would never use their kids to get attention while simultaneously doing so.

ArcaneWireless · 14/01/2024 11:29

I think that most may have occasions when they are aware of a tenuous link with the truth.

It isn’t just PH or M or indeed the press who may have problems with varying recollections.

Untruths tend to have the veil lifted. Those with sharp eyes may be quick to spot things other do not.

jeffgoldblum · 14/01/2024 11:30

Very true @ArcaneWireless .

You are making me laugh now! She only wears jewellery when out at posh places, but never ever when out walking. How in god's name do you know this sort of thing?
What a reach!

Rockybooboo · 14/01/2024 08:52

The trouble is those headlines would be while the kids at school. Also the far right nutters would still have Meghan and the kids on their hit list.

I agree that these are worrying aspects although the headlines are in both countries. Having lived in the US and having lots of American friends I find it hard to believe that the far right nutters aren't equally bad there and at least here, if they chose to come back of course and I can quite understand why they may not, at least here they could live on a protected royal estate and have a bit of day to day freedom. I never see pictures of the Wales family out and about in Windsor.

I'm a romantic I suppose and I would love to see the family reconciled at some point, even if they never become senior royals, which isn't I believe what either of them want.

Roussette · 14/01/2024 11:32

Nah... they just take a huge payout from Hello for the first pictures of their DD released to the british public. Very noble! And the reason was 'we did it, because the public wanted it' hahaha

Priceless.

How do you know what they got paid? Just curious.

Roussette · 14/01/2024 11:41

Because it was reported everywhere. Even the Telegraph which is very pro Royals. There was a bit of a hoo hah at the time. I think the Queen was displeased

Nope. Stop twisting my words. I am just illustrating to you that Royals trade off their name. Peter Phillips did. Zara and Mike did. They are not working royals, like H&M. But they are within the inner circle of the RF, unlike H&M.
But H&M who aren't within the RF can't do it...... oh hang on... I know... they're different and must be slated for every action.
You're priceless I agree!

yep they never milk (lol) their connections.
