Never complain, never explain has served the RF well.
Unfortunately complaining and over explaining has not served anyone well.
PH and M have been made figures of ridicule which was probably not their intention. What started off with a mostly sympathetic ear and a Bon Voyage has turned into raised eyebrows, whirling eyes and snorts of derision.
PA is also a figure of ridicule due to the over explaining although there is the element of disgust attached (rightly so) to the ridicule.
I do think that speculation would have swirled round him regardless.
I think PH and M were also the victims not only on their say so but of timing and circumstance.
Covid, the ill health and demise of the Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. Maybe even their choice of location.
I wonder if any of them sit late at night thinking I wish I’d done things differently/kept my mouth shut/stayed put?
There is still time to turn things around but that Golden Globe comment must have nipped. She has been very much in the background, keeping relatively quiet and to be mocked on what should be your shiny place? Sore one.
I still can’t help but feel that PH was full of puff and promised her the moon and maybe more. She may not have known how it all worked but he did. He may have thought they would be the exciting, edgy glamour couple. And they so could have been.
But it would never have been to the detriment of W & K.
And watching them both? I think second fiddle would never have been acceptable. It is a pity that it wouldn’t have been enough because they initially seemed to have so much to contribute.
To then choose to cock a snook and bite the hand that fed them made no sense. I think the majority of his disenchantment is with the press (and maybe bring second born?) so to do that was madness.
Fine having a beautiful and glamorous actress on his arm. Maybe they both thought it was a golden ticket to untold riches. Who knows.
It of course has been lucrative.
Has the cost been worth it?
I believe not. I hope they think differently.
