Happy Birthday, Spare!

It’s the one year anniversary of the release of Spare, how are you all celebrating?!

In all seriousness, a year on what impact do you think the book has had on the Royal Family and the Sussexes?

In my opinion it clearly did very well commercially but in popular culture it became a bit of a joke. In terms of the RF I’m not sure it made much difference - to people who already didn’t like them it confirmed what they already believed, to people who did like them it was more evidence that Harry was no loss. I also think even a year later it has made reconciliation between William and Harry impossible.

I might be called a republican but certainly don't think of him as a poster boy lololol.

I just really really dislike all the hate they both get.

There are literally millions of people who work in careers that give them incredible amounts of pleasure. So odd to think otherwise just because that's not your experience.

Of course there are but at the end of the day, we all have to work and companies are businesses and will put profit first including companies that are involved in Health and Care.

jeffgoldblum · 13/01/2024 13:57

But what has that to do with writing a tell all book?

It's always forgotten , but not long ago Harry didn't pay income tax either, he was also funded by the taxpayers!

He agrees with the monarchy, he just doesn't like his new place and the withdrawal of money now he's left .

He isn't the poster boy for republicans that they think he is .

If there was a way for him to be funded by the U.K. and still do his own thing , you bey your ass he would have found away to make it happen.

I don't see him as a poster boy for republicans.

I don't see him as a poster boy for republicans.

I see him as a poster boy for an anti drugs campaign a mental health matters charity but not for a republic Britain

Start your own company then. Work for yourself. Be your own master. Take the responsibility on your own shoulders.

No way! I'm retiring soon and I've got a pension to consider. I've always done voluntary work though so that will continue

Rockybooboo · 13/01/2024 13:47

No I responded to that post.

Personally I think what Harry has done for his millions is less immoral than his father not paying income tax which could come back into the country. I guess at least some of his money is being invested into the fight with the press.

That's good as I know some people who are doing two jobs but can't save as rent is nearly all their salary.

King Charles does pay both income tax and capital gains tax. None of the royals legally have to pay tax, but they have done since 1993.

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2024 15:07

It takes time, counselling, therapy and more time.
IMO Harry has too much spare time to contemplate his navel. The devil makes work for idle hands.

But, again, do you think Harry is keen to pay tax? He said he had no money because his inheritance money “was for Archie and Lillibet” so clearly he is in favour of passing on inherited wealth. And, furthermore, why are H&M’s endeavours registered in Delaware? Now, not illegal of course, but very much in the zone of minimising one’s tax contribution.

No you are not - you have been going on and quizzing people about their lives on any comment that they have written which has had f all to do with the topic.

little britain television GIF

Sometimes it feels awfully like this on here.

jeffgoldblum · 13/01/2024 15:25

Me too @ArcaneWireless ! 🤣
I've been reading all the threads over Christmas but not posting, mainly because it's the same comments over again worded slightly differently!

Maireas · 13/01/2024 15:27

@ArcaneWireless 😂

jeffgoldblum · 13/01/2024 15:27

So to save time for everyone........ Harry is great and noble everything he's done is not his fault it's all because the royal family are terrible people who did lots of stuff previously and are to blame for everything that happens to us and everyone else !

Notmyhair · 13/01/2024 15:29

@ArcaneWireless it definitely is like that - I as much as anyone else will pick up someone if I do not agree with what they say but there are lines to be drawn and this intense and random questioning of people about their private lives just seems odd to me. I question the relevance of it and feel as if it substitutes for lack of anything substantial to say. There have been several private details given by posters on here usually in an attempt to show how valid and worthy they are of comment but I'm not going to quiz anyone about their wine or voluntary work or golden siblings or whatever. It's not relevant.

He could be as well be as greedy as his dad but he is no longer head of state or head of the Church of England.

Maireas · 13/01/2024 15:31

I think it's the difference between arguing the point and picking an argument with the person.

Notmyhair · 13/01/2024 15:31

Anyway you can buy the book cheaply now . Oops sorry wrong image.

Happy Birthday, Spare!

Harry has never been any of these things.
