Happy Birthday, Spare!

It’s the one year anniversary of the release of Spare, how are you all celebrating?!

In all seriousness, a year on what impact do you think the book has had on the Royal Family and the Sussexes?

In my opinion it clearly did very well commercially but in popular culture it became a bit of a joke. In terms of the RF I’m not sure it made much difference - to people who already didn’t like them it confirmed what they already believed, to people who did like them it was more evidence that Harry was no loss. I also think even a year later it has made reconciliation between William and Harry impossible.

I have done my share of low paid, low status jobs in my time - care work, seasonal work etc. None of them were morally troubling, and enabled me to pay the bills.

Exactly so it was pointless really.

No I am genuinely interested in someone who spend a lot of their life shagging if other people live their life

Roussette · 13/01/2024 12:59

Or you just get on with it and make the best of what you are dealt with in life

This honestly sounds like... 'pull yourself together'. Unless you have lived it, you don't know it.

No. It is not remotely like "pull yourself together".
We all face challenges in life. Sometimes there are things that you cannot change, but you have to work out a way to live a life. Working out a positive way forward is always a good move.

Sorry? Thread takes an interesting turn 😂Are you sure you are on the right forum?

ArcaneWireless · 13/01/2024 13:21

Shagging?

Rude.

wildernesssw · 13/01/2024 13:22

In any case, Harry was not unemployed in an area of mass unemployment 😂he was a multi-millionaire who wanted even more millions.

So how did you do it? Maybe you can let Prince Harry know. Maybe he all he needs is guidance?

Yes

Ok if that is the case then I'm not sure where the shagging comes in.

She said she was able to do so. Why are you going off at these tangents?

ArcaneWireless · 13/01/2024 13:31

@Notmyhair

It seems that you were far from mistaken regarding veils.

It was @wildernesssw that went down this path. Telling us how she's never worked in a job that doesn't align with her values. How was she able to take such a big wage drop? I couldn't

Rockybooboo · 13/01/2024 13:36

Typo slagging not shagging. I already why people would want to do the latter.

Yes but you brought up your own life, not me. I'm just interested in how you managed.

wildernesssw · 13/01/2024 13:38

It's all rather irrelevant, since - as I said in a previous post you seem to have ignored! - Harry is not on the breadline in an area of mass unemployment!

However, in general I live within my means, prioritise saving over spending etc so where I have had periods on a lower income I have been able to manage.

ArcaneWireless · 13/01/2024 13:42

Apologies @Notmyhair

May have tagged you in error. 🌻

Sorry. 😊

wildernesssw · 13/01/2024 13:43

I brought up my life in response to your post saying we are all for sale, no-one works for love.

I was pointing out it is possible - for many people - to earn a living without compromising their values.

For many of us, Harry's decision to put his family's private matters in public for money does not align with our values, and it is not something we would choose to do.

Harry is a multi-millionaire. He might want more money, but he didn't need it.

Rockybooboo · 13/01/2024 13:47

No I responded to that post.

Personally I think what Harry has done for his millions is less immoral than his father not paying income tax which could come back into the country. I guess at least some of his money is being invested into the fight with the press.

That's good as I know some people who are doing two jobs but can't save as rent is nearly all their salary.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/01/2024 13:47

Plus all the privilege which goes with it. I’ve read some excerpts on Good Reads (lengthy paragraphs) one of which has Harry aghast and complaining to his father about not being given any money was it after he married Meghan? Well cry me a river.

Ridemeginger · 13/01/2024 13:48

There are literally millions of people who work in careers that give them incredible amounts of pleasure. So odd to think otherwise just because that's not your experience.

There are a lot of companies that are iffy though. Do You do a background check on the organisations you work with. One of my family worked for Fujitsu. That's a big oops these days isn't it?

So... someone who is really troubled about their upbringing, who can't sleep because of it, who thinks about it day in day out... then they have children and it brings it all back....should just make the best of it...

I get what you are saying, but for some it is not that easy. It takes time, counselling, therapy and more time. We see it on threads on MN day in day out.
Yes... working out a positive
way forward is a good thing to do, but it ain't always easy.

jeffgoldblum · 13/01/2024 13:51

It's always forgotten , but not long ago Harry didn't pay income tax either, he was also funded by the taxpayers!

He agrees with the monarchy, he just doesn't like his new place and the withdrawal of money now he's left .

He isn't the poster boy for republicans that they think he is .

If there was a way for him to be funded by the U.K. and still do his own thing , you bey your ass he would have found away to make it happen.

Maireas · 13/01/2024 13:54

@Roussette - I never, ever claimed it was easy.
I never, ever said that people "should just make the best of it".
