Behind the Scenes at the Coronation - Boxing Day

I love things that go behind the scenes at special events or show how TV programmes are made, or explain stuff I don't know about how stuff is organised. I'm the person who watches behind the scenes clips on YouTube! I know it won't be completely candid because the cameras are there but I'm still looking forward to it.

So I thought I'd start a fun thread asking what burning but trivial question would you like to see the answer to?

Mine - do royals have bladders of iron or do they build secret loo breaks into the schedule of big events?

Bit of a pivot but one of my friends gave me gin flavoured marmalade. Wonder what Paddington would have thought ??

wildernesssw · 30/12/2023 18:54

I'd prefer that to marmalade flavoured gin, TBH.

Mylovelygreendress · 30/12/2023 18:58

It’s delicious ; fab way to start the day . Hic.

wildernesssw · 30/12/2023 19:02

I think we should all write to the BBC to complain about gin-flavoured marmalade (or marmalade flavoured gin), It makes as much sense as complaining that 'behind the scenes preparing for the coronation' doesn't include topics that are not 'behind the scenes preparing for the coronation'!

More importantly, King Charles has said nothing!

Mylovelygreendress · 30/12/2023 19:03

Continuing the gin theme , DH has just handed me a large G and T . Cheers .

I'd rather have marmalade flavoured gin! However I need to stay away from marmalade. Lots of rounds of toast with marmalade while watching This Morning during lockdown 2020 was a disaster for me!

Y'know, this is giving me flashbacks. Once upon a time, in a past millenium, I worked for a team very loosely connected with rights of way, in that they were a valuable resource for health and well being.

For a couple of years we had someone write regularly to us to complain that their loved ones remains were being desecrated.

They had scattered the ashes of their loved one on a right of way that was especially meaningful - I think with the landowners permission, but it was a while ago! - and now were offended that people still walked on this right of way.

Nothing we said could persuade them that no -one (especially us, with no responsibility for rights of way!) could close this footpath (or that anyone should!).

Every letter tey sent us included copies of all their previous letters, and our replies.

It was batshit.

One of my lovely colleagues - with more patience than me - took on the role of responding, on the basis that the person writing in obviously had mental health issues, and seemed to be struggling with grief. Eventually the letters tailed off.

I suspect the BBC get their fair share of what we used to call 'green pen' letters!

I honestly can’t think of a worse job than letter opener in the BBC complaints department, I’d rather be a professional crash test dummy

Maireas · 30/12/2023 19:43

@wildernesssw - I know that the BBC get all manner of batshit complaints. They've got used to dealing with utter nonsense, I suspect.

Paddington, @Samcro ? Don't get me started. All that wanton marmalade consumption, with not a mention of conditions in marmalade factories.

😂

OT but I used to work for a very big events company that among other things used to host a big - well, we weren't supposed to call it an arms fair but that was what it was. We used to get a letter - from someone in their eighties judging by the hand writing - telling us that Jesus didn't want us to host this and that the writer would be checking up in a few weeks to ensure we'd cancelled it.

I used to look at this letter and think fair point, but sorry, writer. In the struggle between God and Mammon, guess who's the winner?

I like this lip reading joke coronation video

Goodness, that photo really shows up how badly the dress fitted round the bust, doesn't it? It looks wrinkled at the waist, too. I didn't really notice on the day, because there was a lot to look at, and it probably wasn't so obvious when she was moving, or in the carriage.

FramboiseRoyale · 31/12/2023 14:29

I think in that photo, it's just a trick of the light. The dress fit beautifully; it was designed to be body-skimming a la vintage Givenchy. It's a good design for someone short-waisted as Meghan is.

Samcro · 31/12/2023 15:11

oh please. why can't one sodding thread in this topic, not have H&M in it.
she wasn't at the coronation and neither of them was mentioned in the documentary that this thread is about,

wildernesssw · 31/12/2023 15:27

It was the 'bad lip reading'connection. They also did a very one of High School Musical (which I hate with a vengence thanks to DD's obsession with it 😡and Star War etc etc

wildernesssw · 31/12/2023 15:50

If you prefer 'behind the scenes' rather than bad lip reading, then I recommend BBC iPlayer - Christmas at St Pauls if you haven't seen it before...

Christmas at St Paul's

A behind-the-scenes look at St Paul's during their busiest time of year.

Agreed

MaturingCheeseball · 31/12/2023 16:24

The thing is, companies (especially tv companies) have to log every comment and complaint. More than a few are completely batshit or from miserable gits, but still points are noted from someone moaning that The Coronation meant Countdown was five minutes late etc etc.

I mean, who actually complains? Occasionally I have a small rant and say “Outrageous!” but I couldn’t be arsed to pick up the phone/email or even tweet. It’s like those on MN who report all the time (especially on rf threads……).

Samcro · 31/12/2023 17:04

I wonder if they get complaints when stuff is cancelled or late because of sport.

wildernesssw · 31/12/2023 17:17

I would guess they do...
