Behind the Scenes at the Coronation - Boxing Day

I love things that go behind the scenes at special events or show how TV programmes are made, or explain stuff I don't know about how stuff is organised. I'm the person who watches behind the scenes clips on YouTube! I know it won't be completely candid because the cameras are there but I'm still looking forward to it.

So I thought I'd start a fun thread asking what burning but trivial question would you like to see the answer to?

Mine - do royals have bladders of iron or do they build secret loo breaks into the schedule of big events?

I just watched it today because of this thread and really enjoyed it-

I found it so interesting-loved the seamstresses doing Camilla's train thingy-
the work is incredible and nice to see the detail up close.
Randomly I loved the bugs and bees mixed in with the flowers so much.

The work with the crowns also amazing-thought nice that some of the behind the scenes people got a chance to shine.

Loved those 2 guys from Liverpool-did well up a bit over their story and their wish for the King's legacy.

Very good watch!

Just as e.g. the Great British Sewing Bee doesn't do investigative journalism about human rights abuses in the fabric production chain, or Match of the Day not talking about safeguarding failures in football academies - it's just not what the programme is about. Nothing to do with being/not being impartial.

Exactly it’s like someone complaining Top of the Pops is propaganda because they don’t like pop music or Match of the Day is propaganda because it doesn’t mention the police response at Hillsborough or Neighbours is propaganda because it doesn’t critically analyse the history of Captain Cook and the HMS Endeavour. Go and watch a documentary about the thing you want to watch a documentary about instead of time-wasting with complaints that a documentary about something different didn’t cover your pet interest.

I get that some people don't like the monarchy and the history of it, but why would the BBC show the 10 or 20 people who protested against the monarchy, when there were tens and tens of thousands of people who were there to support them, that's how a democratic majority works (thankfully).

The whole of Trafalger Square was full with protesters. You wouldn't know how many people who support the monarch unless you held an anonymous referendum. There may have 10,000 people turn up and watch but there are nearly approx 70 million people in this country so its not that big a percentage.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/12/2023 17:22

The WHOLE of Trafalgar Square? wow.

BBC didn't show them because the coronation coverage wasn't about them, it was about the coronation. Why would they want to show a load of twerps in yellow tees yelling a puerile slogan to themselves? talk about a downer.

It doesn't matter how many people protested. The fact that people were arrested fur protesting on the day of the coronation itself . This is a democracy and peoole are not allowed to protest againt a greedy and corript institution

But you WERE protesting, weren't you? so where does the 'not allowed to protest' come in just because you didn't get your faces on TV?

Of course they are. But the programme we are talking about was a behind the scenes documentary about the Coronation and how it was prepared for. So protests are not relevant in that context as pp have said. The protests were mentioned in the news on the actual day of the Coronation which is as it should be. This documentary, not so much.

Well well. Someone on the Royalist side kicked up a fuss abput the lack of respect to people who hold a different view to you.

What about the twerps who line the streets to see a tiny glimpse of twat in a golden who unlike footballers has no talent was an abusive husband to his first wife, too cowardly to defend his baby grandson from racist abuse, throws a tantrum over a leaky pen and worst of all has connections to several sex offenders?

People were arrested at the Coronation. Nothing to do with having their faces on TV.

Yes. And it was reported on. On the BBC. But this documentary is nothing to do with that. It was a feel good documentary about the preparation for the Coronation. Nothing more or less. The BBC has a duty to people who want to watch this sort of thing as well as those who wish to protest against the monarchy

Samcro · 30/12/2023 17:57

Ahh well it was an enjoyable program and very interesting.
off to write my letter of complaint about Paddington film being on
🧸

Maireas · 30/12/2023 18:00

Paddington, @Samcro ? Don't get me started. All that wanton marmalade consumption, with not a mention of conditions in marmalade factories.

Maireas · 30/12/2023 18:11

"Dear BBC, imagine my horror......"

How dare Her late Majesty promote the consumption of marmalade sandwiches? Down with the monarchy!

Anyone remember Points of View? I'd say a good proportion of the letters started like that.

wildernesssw · 30/12/2023 18:35

Not to mention the environmental impact of orange tree farming 😮

They did!
"I could not believe my eyes when I saw the late Queen sitting at a table with Paddington Bear, as she openly admitted to keeping a marmalade sandwich in her handbag. Should our licence fee.. etc etc"

smilesy · 30/12/2023 18:39

Has anyone told the Health and Safety Executive about the unsafe storage of sandwiches under hats and in handbags? Do they have sufficient refrigeration in there?

Maireas · 30/12/2023 18:44

Was that mentioned at the Coronation documentary? I think not! The King and the Archbishop of Canterbury did not mention refrigeration of sandwiches or other perishables.
Unacceptable.
