A continuing civilised and enjoyable discussion of all things relating to Endgame. Please keep posts on topic - I do not want to have to invoke Ross Gellar again!

@Cosywintertime
plus the desperation. Megan at the power in woman awards. Not even invited, there as a plus one with the agency, hogging the photo opp and having to be moved along, getting her pic taken with two powerful Hollywood women, when it was obvious she wasn’t even sat at their table. Just asked them to pose for the photo so she could be seen with them.
Do we know who she actually tagged along with? I don't see her appearance or behaviour on the night as desperation but more something she was used to doing as an actor in a previous life - do we know that she was playing the room for photo opportunities or was she just in the right places at the right time? As to the Morocco Dior dress, I thought it was gorgeous but was too unforgiving round the tummy - being proud to be pregnant is one thing but there were some odd lumps and bumps going on. A stunning dress though.

She went with a pr exec from her agency as his plus one.

she was moved along the photo shoot as she was taking too long.

no pics of her at the table, but pics after of her standing awkwardly with two powerful women , so defo a photo opp to position herself.

The green dress looked like an air crew outfit to me. I thought it was awful.

the red dress has to be up there with worst red carpet dress ever worn.

both colors were fab and really suit her.

Words · 20/12/2023 13:03

I could never understand why so many of her outfits were so ill fitting when they could have been tailored to fit with no expense spared. Even the wedding dress looked bunchy round the bust.

On the other hand her suits outfits were really flattering I thought.

lepapillon · 20/12/2023 13:05

I must admit I really liked the green dress, I thought she carried it off very well, (although I agree it wasn't a perfect fit).

It seemed a very attention-seeking choice, but then I assume that was the whole point so it was a direct hit in that respect.

ManonDe · 20/12/2023 13:07

YY to both colours really suiting her. I am always a bit baffled when she wears brown which she seems to alot. Just not a good colour for her IMO. She also sometimes wore a pencil skirt- sweater combo in matching / similar colours and I thought that looked really good.

Cosywintertime · 20/12/2023 13:08

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of the green either, it was a bit too much with the hat and the cape, for my personal taste.

I think she does dress down very well, but struggles with dress up. I suspect it’s because she’s unsure and trying very hard. She also wears off the shoulder a lot. Which is quite a dated look. And the cream number was certainly inappropriate for a mental health panel.

to be fair, I think it is all so new to her, she struggles. But as said, I think she does the dress down very well.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/12/2023 13:28

If you look at her first year or so she wore lovely fitting clothes. My favourites were the dark green pencil skirt ensemble and the outfit she wore in Northern Ireland. So chic. The blue dress in the rain photo was also gorgeous.

I suspect she struggled a bit with her changing shape through pregnancy and afterwards as the fit of her clothing was less great after that (although there's still the wedding dress to account for). That's completely understandable.

I think the last few outfits I've seen have been better fitted in general, but there are still misses. Such is fashion, I suppose.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/12/2023 13:33

The green outfit I mean is the Givenchy one she wore in Ireland.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/12/2023 13:38

The fact she more often has issues with fit than issues with bad choice of outfit suggests to me that she has good taste but doesn’t have a reliable and trusted team around her. Making things fit is something you can’t do on your own, you either need a good seamstress or effective communication with the fashion house.

Mumsnut · 20/12/2023 14:07

Maybe she is just borrowing outfits and has to return them as was

whatausername · 20/12/2023 14:08

I think the poor fitting clothes and struggling to dress up or to know what is appropriate is another example of why she should have worked with advisers rather than dismissing them and, ultimately in the case of the RF ones, cutting herself off from them.

I agree, I think she is picking her own clothes, and off the shelf, although clearly high end, they are not tailored to fit her. Unlike Kate who has a dresser, seamstress and stylist, and whose clothes I think are tailored to fit her.

I do just think she’s also not confident in dressing for high profile events where she is trying to be royal. When she goes paired down, like the blue dress in the rain she gets it right, but when she goes too far like the green ensemble, it’s like she watched downtown abbey and decided that’s what a duchess wears.

the green would probably have worked if it fitted and she lost the massive cape. It was just too much. And it’s never good when you can see the outline of your underwear.

if I was her, I’d side eye what Kate does, as she’s had a lot of experience now, clearly has a stylist , and in recent years has been getting it right. I’d also employ a stylist and seamstress if I was her.

its hard though, I don’t envy her at all, as when you know you will be massively photographed, I’d probably fuck it up too at times. The temptation to over think it and try too hard.

I've just read Harry's 'dragon slaying' statement. He's so cringe.

Wales must be quaking.

Yes I agree.
I think she arrived in the royal family with a more developed sense of personal style than Kate was showing a few years ago (Kate has got more confident since) so I can imagine MM being like ‘why would I ask her for advice? I dress far better than boring sil!’ and not appreciating that Kate is reliably good at being smart and well fitted.

diddl · 20/12/2023 14:49

This couple could have achieved their dream in America of wealth and philanthropy and been happy there.

I think that that's the sticking point though-how to achieve the wealth that they want?

Words · 20/12/2023 14:59

Agree the blue outfit in the rain was fabulous, as was a black trouser suit she wore, can't recall the event.

So many baggy misses though even pre pregnancy. And who let her go on that walkabout with the price tag hanging off the hem? Maybe they'd had enough and it was a last ta rah.

themessygarden · 20/12/2023 15:14

There have been reports that some of her clothes are loaned, hence the bad tailoring. It certainly would explain things.

However, when you see some photos of her in the very early part of her career, she didn’t have great style then either !

AliceOlive · 20/12/2023 15:28

There are plenty of threads about the clothes - it’s so tiresome reading shit like that about women here.

AliceOlive · 20/12/2023 15:29

But I’ll crack on to something else as clearly plenty enjoy it.

jeffgoldblum · 20/12/2023 15:45

Don't worry @AliceOlive , I'm not interested in the clothes of any of them either! 😄

Singingseals · 20/12/2023 15:52

I am interested in the clothes but agree that for the purposes of this thread it’s probably time to pivot 😁

themessygarden · 20/12/2023 16:20

Ohh I thought I was on the style thread ! Mea culpa!

You don’t need to read or you can post something interesting to divert the conversation. This wasn’t it.
